Greetings!
Hello, everyone.
First, I would like to thank Dima and all the staff of the BBC learning English for giving me the fantastic opportunity to write a blog. I will do my best to make my blog enjoyable.
I am Jiae from South Korea. It is actually sad that I have to say South and North Korea separately. North Korean blood runs in me as my grandmother is from there. She had to move out from North Korea when there was the Korean Civil war in 1950. Obviously, it is a sad story to talk about, so let’s move on to introducing myself.
I am a student of 23 year-old studying biological science at SungKyunKwan University in Korea. I am interested in medicine and public health. One of my dreams is working for WHO(World Health Organization). It really fascinates me to learn about living organisms, how the lives are organized and how they are worked. It’s quite difficult to study, but once you make sense of it, it’s amazing to know how complicated and precise everything is working in your body and other organisms. I love studying biology.
Maybe I should mention about my family as well. There are five of us. My dad, my mum, my brother, my sister and me. My dad and mum run for a company producing healthy food made with Ginseng. My brother is a professional football player in Korea I hope he is going to be so famous like Pack Ji Sung. Finally, my sister is a high school student working so hard for an entry exam to a university. We haven’t lived together since I was 15. I always wish we could stay together at least for a year in our lovely house. Let me show you some pictures of my hometown and my home.

It’s a quiet and peaceful village. I grew up here. I had spent most of the time in my life in this small village before I moved out to go to university in Suwon which is near Seoul. I always miss being in my hometown, enjoying the beautiful scenery, and playing with my friends. All of them are just like dreams when I think of them. I’m about to feel homesick. So, let’s focus on my present life.
From the 29th of June, the day before yesterday, I started International Summer School at my university. It is a great opportunity to meet lots of people from different countries and to build up new friendship, globally. I’m still so excited about taking the course. As this course goes by, I will have more things to talk about. Please look forward to it.
I love plyaing the piano. Even though I am not very good at it, when I get stressed out or things are not going to what I want, I always want to play music and get my head rested.
I also love travelling. I have been to some Europrean countries and Japan out of my country. You know what? I got away to Pusan last week with my friends. Pusan is the second biggest city in Korea, and is located in the seaside. I realised that there are lots of different sides you can see in one city. I should describe this city as a package of beauty , old, and modern. The beautiful seaside and mountains, the old markets, and the mordern shopping arcades, other attractions for tourists. I really enjoyed staying there for a couple of days.
I think every country has their own characteristics and they should be appreciated itself. I travelled aroud so few countries considering there are over 200 countries out there. I will not be able to get to know about all the countries in the world, but our high technology is helping us to fulfill our interests. So, by using the internet and this blog, I am pleased to give you the opporunity to know about Korea. I also would love to hear from all of you and share our interests.
Next time, I will wirte aoubt my trip to Pusan. My story will be countinued.
Nice to meet you all out there.
Jiae

Hi Jiae! It’s fantastic to meet you here, and I am really impressed by your writings. The entry is certainly very interesting and enjoyable. Actually,Your entry made me shed tears. But don’t worry it was a joyful tear for seeing some of pictures which are so familiar to me. I’m from South Korea and have lived in The UK for nearly 9 years. I have been homesick as I can’t go back to Korea this year to see my family. All good memories in my time in my country were flooding back to me when I saw the pics. I love Pusan - the biggest port of city in South Korea. Whenever our family visit Korea we go down to the city because my big brother runs one of well-known lorries’ company there. He always books a hotel room for us where we can look down a beautiful and golden sandy beach from the room. I like to listen to people's speaking with the very distinctive local dialect and hang around lots of tourist attractions there with my family. What a picturesque house your family has! I hope you’ll enjoy writing to us as much we do. Looking forward to next blog from you, and this space is all yours so make the most of it.
Hello Jiae, welcome to the blog. I was amazed to see how nicely you write. Thanks for being with us this month. It'll be very nice to get to know your country. I work at a school that offers a biology degree. I always find it very interesting when I read some of the stuff they study. I can understand why you're so enthusiastic about it. I hope to follow your blog regularly. I'll sure be looking forward to reading the next entry. See you soon. Mauricio.
Hi Jiae, your very first entry was very interesting, it is good to meet you. I was also pleased to see that my “friend” Hyoshil was so happy about it. It is great that people around the world meet in this manner. Have a great time with BBC LE. Best to other friends also!
Hi Jiae, nice to meet you, and cordially welcome you to be here. It's nice to have a Asia girl to be the BBCLE student blogger. I could learn more about South Korea from you during this month. Whereabouts is your hometown in South Korea? Are there snowy all over the South Korea? South Korea become a stronger country in the recent years, nowadays, the films and TV shows from South Korea are very popular in Taiwan. Incidentally, as my anticipation, Hyoshil, who is a regular commentator of BBCLE blog, showed up immediately, you can have a chat about nostalgia with each other here, May you have a wonderful July, and, rock and roll on this blog-land. Best wishes, James.
Hi Jiae, As a first comer to the blog, your 1st entry is really interesting! Eager for your next entry~~
Hi Jiae, Welcome this blog land.I am happy to know that you are interested in Medicine and Public Health. Your dream is really a great one. I wish you to achieve your dream. I am a social worker and working in community health Project in interior Southern India. I do not much about biology. The Medical Officers who are associating with me deal with that subject. You have been away from home for the last 8 years to complete your studies. Your wish to stay at home town with family members and friends shows how you attach and affectionate with them. The Photos of grassy, greenish hills and sea side speaks wonderful surroundings of your home town. We would like to hear more about your experience of the new course this whole month.
Nice to meet you!!!i am Korean, too! i am studying English on the website, espcially BBC site i'm in Korea, hoping do English very well. how can you do English very well? My hope is also to work similar international organisation with you, UN. i'm very proud of you appeared on BBC Homepage as a bloger. it was great to see what you wrote and it makes me feel homesick a bit. anyway. hope to see you again. cheers.
Hi Jiae! Nice to meet you and I will follow your issues very enthuastic. This is a very motivating group of people who comments here.
Hello. i am so happy to see your here.
Hello, Jiae! I know so little about the country where you live, so I’m looking forward to learning about it. I can see from your pictures that the seaside and the mountains in your country somehow intervene, that they are close to each other. Many specialist are beginning to talk about Ginseng, about its good effects on the human’s health, but I know so little about it. Yet, it’s another thing you could tell us about. Would you like to go back to your hometown to work when you graduate? I have asked so many questions, but my curiosity will be satisfied if you answer just one.
Hi Jiae, nice to meet you. I was amazed with the photos that you show us, here in Mexico never snow, so we just can appreciate the snow by photos like yours, I was very glad with all your comments from Korea, keep on writing and let us know more about this beautiful place. Regards
Hi Jiae Welcome to this blog. I hope you have great time here. You first blog was very enjoyable and I have learned something already from it. I don’t know much about South Korea so it is interesting to learn more about South Korea in the near future. Although you have gave us a flavour of South Korea but I would like to know more about it. I hope your dream of working in WHO comes true. Your area of studying also sounds interesting but it looks a little complicated to me. I don’t think I will be able to study it. The pictures are fascinating, I just feel like visiting there. Your house is also beautiful, it’s huge. I understand how you feel when away from home. I am originally from Pakistan but have been living in the UK for the last 17 years. It used to be quite difficult and expensive as well to have contact with family members but these days it’s not too bad. It is not too expensive to phone and there are all other ways to be in contact with family. So we are in the same boat. I have always loved playing piano but never got the chance to learn playing it. I tried for a short time to learn it but it requires a lot of time to learn it and unfortunately I never got the time to learn it. Anyway, I persuaded my sons to learn it and they are enjoying learning it. Initially both of them did not want to learn playing piano but now they love it. Looking forward to know more about your Summer School and about South Korea. I wish you all the best with writing the blogs. Can’t wait till your next blog. Take care Rabail UK
Hello Jiae. It's very nice to see someone from South Korea, speacially at this though time about the north side out there. I loved the few pictures you've posted above. I think that it's a good opportunity for us to know more about koreans, their believes and speacially their lifestyle. Well the player you've mentioned I really don't know but I bet that this one is very famous there in that east side of the globe. From Korea, I know a fighter who takes part in K1, his name's Hong Man Choi. Do you know him? I hope so. He is very nice fighter. Take care and make us know more about that part of the world. Regards from Rio de Janeiro.
Great work Jiae!!!!! I'm really impressed!!!! You are like a native speaker kkkkk keep it up :)
Hi Joae, Big Welcome. I appreciate that you entered in the blog with a big bang- I mean you presented good stuff with scène pictures of your hometown. You posses a good flow which overcome your some grammatical mistakes. What is meaning of your name. I pray God for such a beautiful arrangement where you both sisters could live together for a long time as you fancies. As you are a gorgeous Biology student so you may present some interesting facts about body. Have you ever been in India. Thanks, Good Bye.
Hi Joae, like you, I am also very much nostalgic. To earn my livelihood, I was forced to stay away from my home town. I feel very upset some time though I am living here since long. It is very difficult to stay away from beautiful village like yours, old friends, Brothers and Sisters. Memories of mother-land get never fainted. Now I feel lightened by sharing my pain lying in the inner layers of my heart, with you. Bye again
Hearty welcome and happy blogging. Nice to know that you have interest in medicine and even I too have the passion for medicine as it has opportunities to work for people, however, unfortunatly I got into the information technology field working for machines.
Welcome Jiae I discovered this really interesting site only two months ago… Now I’m following the blog regularly and every day the world is always more around me. Egypt, Finland and now South Korea are so closed to Italy!
Nice to read your first blog, Jiae. As my name hints, I am a Korean living in NZ. It's been 7 years since I moved into this country. Your name grasped my attention with an instant curiosity. Thank you so much for inspiring and touching me emotionally. Wishing you all the best!

Hi Jiae, Welcome to blogging. Your village looks very exquisite and looks like a fairy land. The part of the world where I live is perpetually warm and I haven't seen snow except in movies :) Does it snow every winter there? Is your winter longer than summer? I too live away from my home for the sake of work, and your blog brings nostalgia. I wish you success in your endaevours. Eagerly waiting to hear about Pusan and Korea!

Hi, Jiae It's been great reading your blog. I've been to Korea once and it was so beautiful like you said. I love traveling and wish I could go to different countries over the world, too. Even though, I want to go to Korea again. And if you have a chance ,don't be hesitate to come to Thailand. There are loads of places and festival here.
Hi Jiae, welcome to the blog! Its great knowing about Korea. The scenic view of your house is very beautiful as if we are in the fairy land, does it snow there very often or only in certain months? You have a fantastic ambition of working for WHO, and studying biology isn't easy, but if you have passion for it you will do it. Infact studying living organism is insteresting. Can you write something about 'Ginseng' in detail, as your parent's are involve in it. Are you learning any specific subject in Summer School, or is it the continuation of your studies. Anxiously waiting for your next interesting blog-and about your trip to Pusan.
It's been a long time since I visited this web site to get some articles to study English. And the very first thing that caught my attention was not the latest 'words in the news' article, but your distinctive face with a Korean name. Like many other Koreans, I'm surprised to see, too, to see a Korean, feeling surreal. I'll look forward to read your next post.
Hi Jiae, thank you for this first interesting and constructive post. My knowledge of S. Korean's culture and traditions is very limited and I am sure it will be improved with your coming blogs announced to be exciting. Good luck and best wishes. I join all of you in thanking BBC for offering us this opportunity to sharing knowledge/feelings and to improve our written and spoken English.
