Regards from Polar Arctic Circle!
Hi all of you!
I am very delighted to have an opportunity to learn English by writing a blog. To learn something properly is a thing which does seem to become ready never. I introduce myself first.
I am 46 years old family woman from Rovaniemi located Northern Finland. Finland belongs to Scandinavia and is a neighbor to Russian, Sweden, Norway and Estonia. My family consist husband and three children which are 16, 16 (twins) and 5 years old. We live in the detached house. It locates in a small village 45 km away from the Rovaniemi town in the rural area.
I feel at this moment that I am an eternal student. I have graduated from the different kind of vocational schools many times. Most of them have involved in a way or another to the rural industries. I thought that graduating from Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences and becoming the Bachelor of Agrologic sciences in Rural Industries would be the end of studies. But I was wrong. I didn’t get suitable work or I didn’t get work at all. So I applied again to study and this time to two different Universities which locate here in North Rovaniemi and Oulu. In Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences I intend to graduate the degree of Hospitality management and Tourism before the end of 2010. In Oulu University of Applied Sciences has a school of Vocational Teacher Education. I will become a vocational teacher at the end of this year. So you may wonder, why do I all of this. Is there any sense to use all of this time for studying? Sometimes I wonder it by myself too. I am not alone to do this and I tell you an example. I applied a job for the summer season. I found one which was very interesting and my working experiment and education would fix perfectly, I thought. It was two and half Months job and working time was part time (50%). When I got the reply from the employee I was shocked. The person, who was elected to do that job, had two degrees from University of Applied Sciences. So it means she had at least seven years studies behind and got a part time job for two and half months. It roused thousands thoughts in my mind. Lifelong learning and life wide learning, and is it really worth of spending time. During this month having this blog here I will tell you everything about studying, having work, having family, be a part of competition of better life and of course what it is to live here in North. Hope to see you soon.

Hi Taru, excuse me, but what's a vocational teacher?
Hi Taru, Welcome and nice meeting you. Its good knowing about Finland, family and about your learning process, infact its an eye opening for a new student. In my opinion, learning has no age limit. It goes from cradle to grave. It depends on the opportunities which come in your way and how you avail them. Thanks a lot for letting us know about these aspects. Living in North is also very adventurous, kindly tell us about it. Best regards and have a nice day! Asma
Welcome to community Taru. Without any delay you’ve raised a few of the more controversial issues. I’m approximately the same age as you and have been facing very similar hardships. Frankly speaking it’s not all about money itself, by and large it’s about pleasure of creative labor and than about palpable reward. It seems to me you’re gonna be a very interesting blogger. Good luck!
A warm welcome Taru!!! Mercè

Hi,Taru! Nice to meet you! In my imagination Finland is a icy place, and I'm wondering how long the summers last there. Could you please give me some idea of it? Thank you!
Hi!Taru, Nice to meet you here.I wonder where is the end of studying? It is unlimited? no,not a right answer. I believe that it depends on you(everyone),yourself. is that right? It is very wonderful to hear about you all! see you later, this is yourmonth.
Hi Taru A very warm welcome to you. Hope you have a fantastic time as a student blogger. Your first entry tell us a lot about you. You seem to be hard working and dedicated person. I absolutely agree with your idea of studying. These days the competition for getting a decent job is very tough. Every body seem to be studying hard and getting more qualifications. However, inspite of education becoming more common, many people still don't get a good job. I have met many people who have more than one degree and still find it quite challenging to find a decent job. The world these days is very competitve. PhD used to look something very big but now adays everybody seem to be studying PhD. Anyway, you seem to be very talanted woman. Studying and looking afther the family is not easy. I would say it is much harder for women to study as a muture student than men because women have more responsibilites than men. It must be very challanging for you to study. I strongly believe that nothing is impossible. You just not to be dedicated. I am looking forward to know more about you, your family and Finland. Best of luck with your education. Take care Rabail UK
Hi there Taru, I found your first entry very interesting. I'm about the same age as you are, and I feel very unsuccessful. I would like to improve my way of life too as you said, but I don't think I'm as brave as you are. I know I'd have to have better qualifications but I feel too old to go out and get them. Sometimes I feel as if I had made bad choices in my life and now I have no way to make a turn. I'm very interested in reading about your life's story. See you soon, Mauricio.
Hi Taru, We are all eager to know more about Finland. Is it true that Finland contains 1000 lakes? Also do tell us about your culture. What is your favorite food? What do you do in your free time (apart from studying)? Do you live somewhere near the capital? How far is your town from Finland's capital? I am waiting eagerly for your answers. Continue your blogging and have a nice time!
