A bad writing work, by means of correction, it comes out a great learning material.
Hello there,
There are two open blogs in 2008 which are January and December. The idea of the open blog is an innovation one. In January, there were 9 student bloggers on it; I thought it is better for me not to write much lest my blog entries occupied the space. It was a blooming blog indeed; somehow, I felt a little pity. What is the destination of an open blog up to? Did it reach the aim? Is it an English learner’s blog?
In December, there are 12 student bloggers join the open blog, I decided that I would daily write it, only limited my paragraph and photo. The student blog till now has been blossomy as the last one. Bloggers use more photos than their blog of before, and their English writing skill surely improved a lot. Yes, it’s a contribution of BBCLE. However, a little pity is still lingering in my mind.
Why did BBCLE run an open blog? I have no idea, and BBCLE yet has not said a word either. In my opinion, BBC Learning English offers 2 blogs of student and teacher for improving learner’s writing, and the teacher blog will give the student advice on what they write and suggestions. Normally, the student blogger would make writing mistakes; the teacher blogger could correct them and give them a few advice or suggestion. Through this kind of interaction, the readers can learn English writing by way of student blogger’s writing mistake. Nevertheless, I haven’t got any correction through the open blog, it has been a pity.
A bad writing work, by means of correction, it comes out a great learning material.
Enjoy your learning, and best wishes.

James, I am glad you talked about our open blog so honestly. In my mind this open blog is a good idea in many ways, we can share a lot of information, also it gives BBC LE a break. But in my opinion some house rules should be applied, for example no more than one or two photos, also perhaps no entries when ever you feel like, so than more people would get a chance to write. Your idea that someone would correct our writing, in my view, is not possible. Just think how much material we are putting through. All and all I have enjoyed December, but I do think that a strict house rules should be written by BBC LE. Once again thank you James talking about this important issue, all of us should remember to give others a change to write, a short stories as many of us have done.
Dear James, you got comments instead!Isn't it much better?Sometimes it's a good idea to concentrate on the language itself, but mostly it's a linguists'job, but what we all need is undrestanding.Agree? And one more thing - open blog, especially being run at Christmas creates a very special atmosphere, like a reunion of old friends. And it's challenging, too, practice makes perfect. As for me,I love the open blog!
Hi James What a great idea? I totally agree with you on teachers bloggers correcting students bloggers mistakes. This way the teachers bloggers will learn as well as the student bloggers. I hope the people incharged of student blogging think seriously about this idea. Have a great time and take care. Rabail UK
Hi James! I think the main idea of the open blog is the fact that we can catch up with our lives. By the way, I am pro free-entry posts. Thanks for sharing with us your personal experiences and have a great 2009!
