Darkness does not mean hibernation

Alessandro, you asked what people do when it is dark. Well, we just perform as we would normally do. Naturally lack of light does have an effect, and we do miss the sun, that is for sure.

But in the other hand the darkness does make you turn some what inwards, that is to say, we do read and contemplate more than we would in the summer time. As I have lived in Finland most of the time; I am not able to explain it better. All and all we just go about with our lives as normal as possible.

Have a good kaamos!

Hi Leila,It's hard for me to imagine the long dark life of Finlander, but, I realize that people are used to their environment all the time. Every thing has its good one and bad one. The sun and the sky on the photo is bright and brilliant, I have no idea it was at dawn or at dust? I guess it was at dawn. Kaamos, as I looked it up, is the Finnish word for polar night. Have a nice day, and take care. James

Hi Leila, what temperature you get in dark days? Roads, are it covered up by snow? frozen snow? I can't imagine how difficult could be the outwards life. Surely you are surrounded by helful gnomes :) Here in Spain at 17:30 is dark and we don't like this period of year? A warm hug from Spain, Toni

Hello Leila. I´m very happy to see that you´ve made this little part of the blog just to answer my question in fact a doubt I had. I just had asked to you about the lack of the sunlight because maybe not just to me but for everyone who lives near the equatorial area, it could be very complicated to understand how someone´s life runs with only the dark night. You know here we have exactly 12 hours of sun and the same of night so we can enjoy the same quantity of both. Well and I could say to you that even at night we have a sensation that the sun is still above us, not because the light off course but so because of the continous warm we have at all seasons for the whole day. Brazil is very very hot, at least here in Rio I know exactly what I mean! One more time, than you so much for your explanation! Bye!

Hi Leila! In terms of pondering, it would not be a big deal. However, if it is always dark when you go to work, you feel like you have spent the entire day at your work desk because you get out of the house when it is dark and then you get home and it is still dark. By the way, it becomes dark at 4:00 pm over here. If I do not hear from you before, have a very Merry Christmas!!

Hi Leila, nice to meet you. This is my first comment on your blogs.Firstly, your name seems to me an eastern name, is'nt so ?It's so interesting, a woman from Europe with an eastern name! Any way, I have never been to Finland but, I have heard that the winter last so long there, and there is a long darkness in Finland, and also I've heard about its beauties too.To be honest, it is amazing and hard to imagine the lack of the sunlight for a long period of the year, and living in such a difficult conditions,at least for me and perhaps for so many people who live in Asian countries inwhich the sunlight is in abundance even in the winter. You know,I'm so curious to know about the darkness time in your nice country. Please, write some more about it and tell me how is going your daily lives in such a situation if possible. Best wishes . Karoun
