I took part in a competition that was organised by British Council Slovakia and related to Learn English pages printed in Sme (Slovak newspaper) and Uj Szo daily ( written in Hungarian) in April. I simply found all the answers to the Quiz questions and sent them all together to the British Council Slovakia. A couple of weeks later I received an e-mail in which I was notified that the prize winners were chosen at random and I am one of the winners. The prize includes a free English course at the Bratislava British Council Teaching Centre. I was so surprised that I cannot tell you. Am I the winner? I have never won anything except for the opportunity to be a blogger on the BBC LE website. I could hardly believe it so I made a phone call …and they told me that I really had won the course. Well, I have taken my course since September and it is almost to the end, unfortunately.

My family’s life has changed since I started my English classes. But I have a lovely husband who understands my desire to be more fluent in English so he drives me to Bratislava for my classes twice a week. Bratislava is about 55 km away from our house. We usually set off at 8:30 a.m. and are back about 1:00 p.m. Then I usually prepare the lunch and try to do everything that I would have done in the morning. The lessons are interesting. We do lots of listening practice so we can develop our ears to the language. However, our native speaker teacher, James speaks really quickly. Sometimes when he tells us a story I can only understand the context. But I think it helps me to make progress in effectively using English in the real world. My classmates are lovely and friendly. It is a really diverse class; the students come from different countries, such as Korea, France, Germany, Hungary and Slovakia.

Yesterday I took a couple of pictures of the building where the British Council is situated and of my classmates. Our teacher is the bearded man in black in the middle of the picture.
