Cassoulet!!!
Hi all of you, Readers,
Tonight, I'm not going to be as talkative as usual. I just want to share with you a comic situation, that you may have been the witnesses.
The scene takes place during the Election Day In New York. On Times Square, as a camera was filming above the crowd, a banner, on which was written "CASSOULET", kept the eye of the cameraman, the people in front of their screen who where watching the result of the election (and enjoying the Obama success!!) and finally of a lot of American and especially American media. What or who is Cassoulet?
If you are not french, Cassoulet doesn't ring a bell to you. I think that you can even imagine what it is. This explains why Cassoulet has been the 62 word the most searched on Google after the following night.
Well, maybe you have searched it and already know what it is, but I'm still going to explain it. Cassoulet is not a code name, used by the secret service. It is better than that. It represents all that France has good, which is... food. Cassoulet is a typical meal coming from Castelnaudary, a city situed in the South-West of France. When you eat it, you had better to be really hungry as it is quite a heavy meal composed of beans, sausages, meats of pork and duck. Well, a really heavy meal!
This event has been organised by a columnist of a french TV show, browdcast on Canal +. This channel is really well known in France, especially for its free speech. Thanks of this channel, a lot of comedians has made their first step. So, during one week, all of the columnists of this TV show called "le Vrai Journal" have gone to New York, to show what was the situation, the atmospher, and also to have fun.
I think that the actors themselves have been astonished by the result of their action, as it creates a real curiosity and attention about their banner, and the meaning of what was written on it. This action is quite absurd, useless, and I quote something written by an american journalist who has pretty said that he has never seen something that weird.
What do you think of it? Have you seen this banner on TV?
I will answer during a more longer post next time. Thank you for all the people who has a comment, it is really nice to read it!
See you soon and have a really good night (that it is what I'm going to do!!!)

Hi Olfa, No, I didn't see this banner on TV but I'm trying to imagine myself all situation & I think it's really very strange situation. I wish I hadn't seen that. So really I never hear word 'cassoulet'. Have a nice week. Piotr
Hi Olfa. I do not want to become one greedy guy but your entry make me can not restrain my self to taste the cassoulet . I hope to know more about the French dishes . Take care , blog mate .
Hi Olfa, I read all your blog essays with in a big interest.Your writing is very smooth and the way you are expressing your ideas are very interesting. I have been to your country to Paris about 8 years ago at the begining of millenium. I enjoyed my staying there. I had a boat trip at night on Sen River which was unforgetable. I remember the bridges which were very interesting. Every single bridge's architectural plan was different from other ones.It was like having a trip through a history time zone. The "Cassoulet" cuisine which you mentioned in this week's blog seemed very similar to our country's dish, slow cooked stew in a eartenware pot which is called "Kuru fasulye-means dried beans" but we don't put sausages or use pork, duck meat, we usually put a kind of bacon called "Pastırma" which is made of cow or sheep meat.Sometimes even we don't put any meat in it and only cook it with white beans, garlic, fresh tomatoes and fresh green pepers and usually served with pilav-made from rice and cucunber pickles.Do you serve as we do? Showing a sign or a word -like Coussoulet on a TV show to me is a kind of sense humour and is a part of a TV show because as a result there aren't any harm or hurting feelings against people.I am looking forward for your next blog essay, since then take care with my best whishes...Ayça :)

Hi Olfa, I am delighted to read about Cassoulet - can you tell me how the word is pronounced, please? In any case it is making my mouth water!!
Hi Olfa!Cassoulet-unfamiliar word to me but very inguisitive. Are there any other delicious dishes in France? What? Write about history of Tour Eiffel in Paris and Statue of Liberty in USA /it last has connection with your country/. Olfa! No, I haven't watched this banner on Tv.It's really curious to know about it.I know the name of Lyon, and I know that it's in France because my brother's wife has got relatives there, but I haven't even been to there. After reading your comment, I think it may be more beautiful than I have imagined. I have been to some locations from Spain: Avila,Salamanca,Granada,Sevilla and Cordoba.Have you ever been to Cordoba? The Cordoba mosque is wonderful, with its arches in two colours.
Hello , Olfa No , I have never watched that banner on tv, but it's really curious. On the other hand, I know that Lyon is in France because my brother's wife has relatives there. But I didn't know about the marvellous forests. I mean , the trees of different coloured leaves. I think that I would have never tasted that meal because it may be really heavy and my stomach is really bleak. I like your comments and you write English very well.
I love cassoulet, a real wintry meal.
Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
