Film Festivals and John Travolta.

Dear Simon Travolta and dear everyone,

How are you doing? I hope your week is going on well.

Simon thank you very much for the link. Wow! I´ve just visited the site and I´ve found this festival fabulous! I´ve already written down the films that I want to watch. I´ve particularly liked the plot of The Lemon Tree. Moreover, the Film Ekimi will show the new Hayao Miyazaki animation! Are you going to go to Film Ekimi Simon? There´s a co-production Brazil-Canada called Blindness which will be part of this festival. This film is directed by Fernando Meirelles ( City Of God and The Constant Garderner) and is based on the José Saramago novel ( a very good book). I haven´t watched this film yet, but I´m looking forward to watching it :-). Well, you can be sure that Istanbul will be in my list of festivals and of course I´ll look you and your lovely family up :-).

Anyway, in October we have a film festival in São Paulo too. This festival shows many art house films from all over the world. Some films has subtitles only in English. Threfeore the São Paulo film festival is a good way to practice my English skills.

Well Simon in comparison with my dance skills you´re a kind of John Travolta indeed. I´m still learning how to strut my stuff without burst into laugh :-). Oh gosh! Now I can´t get Stay N´Alive out of my mind. Ha Ha.

Well, I´ve come to know Catherine here on BBC LE. I had no idea that she has worked for a while here. That´s really interesting :-). Catherine, do you speak Portuguese?

I can imagine how happy your wife was when she saw Woody Allen. I think no body guard would stop me too :-).

By the way, Aya Sofia must be a dazzling view. I´ve read about it and I´ve seen some pictures too.

Ok, now I´m going to try to correct the mistakes you´ve spotted:

1) Anyway, once I´ve tried to do/take ( which is the correct verb? ) some belly dance classes
2) which is a very demanding task
3) by the time
4) The first thing you should know is
5) thanks for telling me how you and Mark

Ok the three phrases:

1) My cousin is a wonderful dancer. She really knows how to strut her stuff on the dacing floor.
2) I go ape everytime I go to my favourite bookstore.
3) I never know when my sister´s comments are a bit tongue in cheek.

Before I go let me just chat a bit with some friends:

Hey Naheed! I can´t believe that I´m a member of the night owl club :-).

Hello dear Lucy! Of course I remember you :-). By the way, congratulations! May your baby be very healthy. Lucy, is your baby a boy or a girl?

All the best,

Ana ( Kung Fu Panda) Paula ;-).

Dear Ana Paula: Do you currently live in Sao Paulo capital? I used to live there from 1999 to 2001, working for the consulate general of Japan in Sao Paulo. After that I moved to Brasilia, and came back to Tokyo. Now I really miss my days in Brazil... Que saudade!

Dear Ana Paula. I’m glad that you can still recall me after we have lost touch with each other for ages. It seems to me that you are full of beans. This morning when I woke up and turned on my PC, a new entry from you occurred to me. And I am over the moon the whole morning because you mentioned my name in your blog. Just for the love of it, I will try my best to be your regular and loyal reader. Anyway, I will begin to enjoy my maternity leave from next month, that means I will be off work and have time on my hands. As far as your question is concerned, it is expected to be a baby boy as I have once had an ultrasonic examination in a maternity hospital. But whether it is a boy or girl doesn’t matter to me. As long as she or he is healthy and smart, I will be glad.

Hello Ana! I should read your blog before I read post from Simon. If I was acting in that sequence I wouldn’t say that man inside the car is Simon’s father in law. Shame on me. But I’m curious about how did you recognized Woody Allen? It’s unbelievable! There are a lot of famous people on the Earth but I ought to admit that I would recognize with the first glance very few of them. Congratulations!

Hi, Ana Paula! Are you fond of Miyazaki’s films? Which one is your favorite? I like not only his films but Japanese animation in whole! But for the works of Miyazaki I have special feelings because “Spirited away” was the first Japanese animation I’ve seen. The film “My Neighbor Totoro” I’ve seen with my younger sister – it is so kind and touching film about two sisters! A picture from it is wallpaper on my computer and I smile every time I turn it on :) Do you like anything else from a big variety of Japanese anime?

Hey Ana, wow! So many films and festivals....We have talked about films in one of our Skype meetings but I think after reading your post, it should be one more time:-) Best Wishse, Naheed

Hi Ana, it seems you are a moviegoer. It's great to have opportunities to participate at an international film festival. In Shanghai, we have a film festival as well. It takes place every year and presents a variety of movies from all over the world. During the event, some authorized cinemas provide tickets at low price. Usually the ticket price of foreign movies are as expensive as $20. But for those movies contesting at the film festival you may have a ticket lower to $4. I'm wondering what the situation at São Paulo film festival is. Does the organizer offer cheap tickets to audiences? Do you know whether any Chinese movies are going to compete at the film festival? Anyway, hope you enjoy it.

Hi, Anna your last letter was full of life again and I enjoyed reading it very much. I used to be a bookworm but I can't read books as much as I used to.I have been reading 'Owls Do Cry' by Janet Frame and it is an interesting book.I love to watch frothy movies when I am exhausted.I just sink in the sopa with a foamy coppuccino and soak up a lighthearted movie. That is my best remody to get rid of tireness.see you soonXX

Hi Ana, how are you today? I hope everything is fine. Your blog gets better everyday. I love to read about the films you watch. You know so much about them, their directors and actors. It's amazing. Ana, is your sister into English like you? What's her name? I tried to find that facebook you mentioned here on the bbc learning website, but I couldn't find it. Could you tell me how I can access this facebook to find the way to get in touch with people through skype? well, that's it for now. See you more later. Bye, bye.

Hi Ana! I'm also taking FCE this year, and looking up English learners' sites on the Internet I came across this one. Your writing is pretty good, and I'm sure you'll get your certificate. I'm not used to watching films, though I know it's one of the best ways to improve language's abilities. At my university there are free films very often, but I'm a bit lazy... By the way, I live in Porto Alegre. I intend to go on reading this blog, so perhaps I'll come back comenting soon. Best wishes for you all.

Hi Anna Paula! I'm glad to hear that you are so interesting in films, have you ever saw kazakh's films? ("Mongol", "Chingis chan", etc.) Our contry sometimes also makes good films about history of our life, some thrillers etc., but not so good that compete with other countries like USA, GB. It's my first comment, so don't criticize severely much, good luck and bye for now=)

Hi Ana Paula, here you are the plot of "Waking Ned" : In a tiny Irish village two elderly best friends discover that someone has won the national lottery, so they try to find the winner in order to share the wealth. When they discover the winner is their friend Ned Devine they figure out he has died of shock upon discovery his win. Not wanting the money to go to waste they try to figure out a way to share in Ned's fortune. But things get a lot more complicated than they could have anticipated.- Story, characters, scenery and sounds are very good so I warmly recommend you this delicious film. You can see a trailer of it on You Tube. Best Wishes

Hi Ana Paula, do you know that part of the film Blindness was recorded here in Montevideo? I saw a little in television when they were filming. It seems that our country is a good location to do films, and several movies or commercials for export were filmed here.

Hi Ana, I read the entry and got a question fot the word " look forward for", and checked the dictionary as well, but I have only found the word " look forward to". Is there any different between " look forward to "and "look forward for"? See you, James

Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
