The City of Sails

Dear all,

I am just shocked about all your comments! Thank you so much!
I am happy you ask me about this Country and I will tell you as much as I know.
It's also amazing how much you feel my enthusiasm between the lines! I always think that giving happiness and good feelings to somebody is one of the best things you can do.
Today I would like to show you my new city, Auckland. It is called also "city of sails", in fact if you have a stroll along the harbour you will see a lot of sailing boats.
Auckland is the largest and most populous urban area in the country, with around 1.3 million residents, over a quarter of the entire population. Its name in Maori is Tamaki-makau-rau. Did you know that here there are the Maori people here? And that they have their own language and, of course, culture? I will tell you about them one of these days because I think it's so interesting this people!
For today I just would like to show some pictures we shot during our staying here and one, Auckland at night, that I found in internet. You can see the Sky Tower, the tallest tower in the city centre where you can also jump if you like (it's not for me!!!!) and the sailing boats!

This is Auckland from Mt. Eden, one of the numerous volcanos of the region.

Can you see the sailing boats??

The Sky tower from the bottom.

Auckland at night. Isn't it beautiful?

Well, it's all for today.

Waiting for you comments...

Ciao

Hello dear Rosi! Wow! It’s an incredible city! Nice harbour too. Thanks a lot for sharing these pictures with us. Especially the Sky Tower looks excellent. It’s interesting to know that people can also use this magnificent tower for Bungee Jumping! I think it’s a must-see place for Bungee lovers! Isn’t it? Rosi, could post some pictures of Maori people too? Thank you again for your excellent blog! I just can't wait for your next blog! Pritam.

Hi,Rosi! Thanks for telling us about New Zealand. I am ashamed to say I had good marks at school on Geography but know nearly nothing about this country. So learning English through this BBC Service can have "side" but positive effects on me - to fill in my blanks on the map. Go on an tell us about Maori people.I am looking forward to read your next post. Diema

Hi Rosy, I have gone through your blog, its just amazing. I must say that you are lucky to live in such a beautiful city in the world. Awesome photographs!! me too belong to a beautiful place called Kerala in India. My place is also called God's own country by many. Its a small natural beautiful place with mountains, backwaters, beaches, forests etc.. My state is making lot of income from tourism. Lot of people are vising my place from all over the world. This is the one and only state in India with 100% literacy. People of Kerla are called Keralites. They are very simple, flexible with good morale and down to earth people working all over the world. They are not aggressive but they are honest and hardworking. Once you visit Kerala you defenitely will feel to come back again to that beautiful place. Thanks so much for sharing about your place and also you gave me a chance to write about my place also. Good blog.. Keep sending more exciting information about your place. Keen to know and share. thanks !! Maria

Hi Rosi! I love the feelings you bring to us through your pictures and introduction. I love the sails, too. I have never seen so much sails like that. It would be very great! Tell us about the Maori!

Hello Rosi: Congratulations for your last blog and the wonderful pictures that you have given us. Have you friends in New Zealand? See you soon Mercè

Hello Rosi, the shots are fantastic and it's also good to see that Auckland is a wonderful place to go to, you must have had a great time over there. Would you like to share some more about Maori traditions with us all. Looking forward to you. Ciao, Naheed

Dear Rosi, how beautiful your new city is. No wonder you decided to move there. Your pictures are very beautiful. How do people jump from that tower? Is it one of those free jumps they are held by a rope or there's some kind of device like a cart or something? I would love to try, but I'm not sure I'd be brave enough. I had an opportunity to go on a ride like this once from a high hill, but I chickened out at the last moment. When you see that big empty space ahead of you it gives you a new perspective that is very hard to face. Well, thank you for your nice writings. Be sure we'll be with you all along the way. Bye for now.

Hi Rossi: thanks for your city´s description and the beautiful pictures. I´ve always heard of New Zeland about its large sheep farming and relatives industries, could you show this, please? or coutryside areas. Best wishes in your amazing stay¡

Hi Rosi! It's a wonderful report you are actually making about this country, New Zealand, which I got to know not from my knowledge of Geography in school but from my teaching sessions of the English Language to students and pupils. Infact, I had to commit a very grave mistake one day, when a colleague of mine asked me about 'Waitangi Day', and confused it with Kwanza Day in America. After a while, I decided to check this day up, as I usually do and found out that it was a kind of treaty between the natives of New Zealand and the administrative heads of the Queen's representative. I then delved into this treaty and found out a lot more interesting episodes of this treaty, which is up until today celebrated in New Zealand and strenghtened my interest in this beautiful but very amazing country in the southern hemisphere. Just about a week ago I also learnt that the natives have won a legal battle for a stretch of land and forest which would now come into their possession after a century of rigorous legal and perhaps difficult negotiations. I also learnt from my English textbooks which I use for teaching that this country is full of different types of birds. Have you seen any? Birds are my weakness, you know. Please try and see if you can capture any and let us have it in posted pictures. Bye for now and please continue to explore this natural landmark of a country.

Hi Rosi! Oh what wonderful pics! You´re right, Auckland at night is really beautiful. Moreover, you´re doing a great job in this blog :-). Have a nice weekend, Ana Paula.

Dear Rosi, thanks for all beautiful pictures which have posted to your blog, best wish Rahyab

For me Auckland means "Rainbow Warrior" so many time ago!... I don't know Australia. I'm retired since some weeks, and I want to again learn English language and use it. I have never had the opportunity to use it in my working time. Then I find very much interesting read and hear what English people can write and tell, and so improving this Langage. As I'm now retired, I can travel and perhaps in a future year I'll go in Australia to discover the "Bush". However that may be, thanks for this virtuel travel, in waiting the next real travel.

Hi Rossi, I'm new in this blog. I've found very exciting and visitors look so charming like you. I confess, I'm really addicted to this site and all is for your fault. Please go on and tell us something more about Maories.

Hi Rosi. Beautiful photos of Auckland. The nigth skyline is specially impressive. Bye.

Dear Rosi, you live in an amazing country and it is strange that there is winter somewhere now in July. I imagine New Zealand from the film ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’. It is one of my son’s favourites. In my opinion it is good, only I wish less fighting and battles. I can’t stop thinking about food from gm plants. You mention strawberries with the Baltic fish genes. May be after so warm winter like this, gm strawberries will be with flavour of herrings, which genes will start to dominate. And next year I will find fishes in a place of strawberries. Ha, ha. Have a nice day!

it's realy amazinge to know about your people and the most interesting things that"the greating way they use" in the Arabian Gulf Countries they great each other by touch each other's nose.but not all people do it..

Dear Rosi, I am very happy when know about your country and the wonderful picture and the most interesting things. The night firmament is very nice.Have a nice weekend,Kieu Nguyen

What a wonderful place !!! I'm brasilian. Last month I went to Recife, the amazing place too.
