a few more photos
...and a few more replies to your comments :)
To Paco: it's good you mentioned Harry Potter, these stories are as popular in Poland as everywhere else, but I've never come across one in English. I've often wondered what kind of reading they make in English, so if you reckon the language is nice then I'll try and get a copy!
For Habooba, and especially Amjad, I'm posting the following two photos: one of Pirat saying hallo to you :)

...and one of our cats, basking in the afternoon sun. Can Amjad count how many there are? He might be surprised to hear that we've got more than twice as many in total! Actually, this has become a serious problem for us: when we first started living here, we welcomed the first two cats very warmly (remember we originally come from Warsaw, a big city, and had never had any experience of country life, so for a long time we didn't realise that cats can be more of a nuisance than anything else); the cats however multiplied very vey quickly, and though at first we managed to give the new-born kittens away, to friends and whoever else wanted a pet, it soon proved impossible to get rid of all those new generations. No birth control medicine was really successful in their case, so in the end we started to sterilize them one by one, but this is expensive and time consuming. We sometimes doubt if we are going to win this war in the end... Does anyone else have a similar problem?

Marianna, thanks for all the posts - yes, ever since I went to Slovakian mountains I've wanted to come back so I hope to do that one day, maybe for cycling as well as trekking. I wonder if the hotel in Ruzomberok where we stayed is still open...
Cristina, thanks for all your nice words! As you can see I still haven't managed to make a tour of Poznan with a camera in my hand, but I'll come to that, I promise :-)
Anita, congratulations on your daughter's achievements, it is a big thing to study a difficult subject in a foreign language away from home! As for living with a psychologist/psychiatrist under the same roof, well... you can get used to anything, I suppose ;-)
I've just realised that one of my cousins in Poznan - a girl called Tosia - got her psychologist's degree this year, and to celebrate it, all the family (myself included) is invited to a dinner tomorrow at 3... Await some new pictures :-)
OK, 3 a.m.is about to strike, so to finish off, let me post one more picture of myself - sitting on our terrace and looking at the lawns I mowed today... Bye!

Hi Lukasz, your story about the cats, took me back to my childhood. When I was a kid, we used to live in a big house, in fact, a courtyard in the middle surrounded by about 5-6 rooms. I remember that my mother was always very careful not let any cat give birth to her kittens inside the house. Only one day she found out that one gray cat was smarter than her and she'd had all her little ones on the roof of our house. The problem started when she decided to move them to a box just in the middle of our always very neat and orderly house. I was 8 at that time, and my younger sister and I were all thrilled about it all. Only one morning we woke up to the wild meowing of the gray cat. To our surprise, the kittens could not be seen everywhere. My sister and I sat on the ground facing the empty box the whole morning, and shed tears and stared at the hysteric meows of the poor mother. A few hours later we got the news that there was a plot against the poor cat and the kittens were sent to a nearby restaurant. It didn't take us long to decide. We ran to the street, heedless to the cries of all the grown ups of the house. One hour later we came back exhausted but overjoyed with our victory. We returned with all the kittens, the gray one, the blalck and white one and the ugly, one-eyed all black kitten which was our favorite...
Hi Lukasz! Very fluent very interesting and funny! Good for us! Until I didn´t switch on my PC at home since friday you had been realy busy with writing. I had to laugh aloud on more places. I visited Ružomberok in February after some years and was amazed myself in what a nice place it has changed. It was a brief visit in a microbiology lab so I could see only a square there. But these days I have learnt from TV programme that one Pole has won an extreme mountain run on the Borišov (prety hard, do you know that?) in Veľká Fatra at the last weekend on May. Maybe you are there the next year too! And what I am wishing to me - to look like your mum in ten years! Maybe, Cheerio!
Hi Lukasz! Your pets are lovely :-). We don´t have a pet because nobody stays at home and the poor thing would be alone all the time. Have a nice week, Ana Paula.
Hi lukasz all the pictures were nice. Day by day we are getting acquaintance with you and your home. Terrace and lawn are looking gorgeous. I like that should be lawn in house but the house I am living in is too small that we don’t even have the backyard. I remember that people were used to of have lawn and backyard. They were habitual of having sittings in open air. But with the passage of time things have changed awfully. Life has become that much busy that we don’t have the time even to meet each other I think the social life is affecting badly. What about there in your country. Are the people have strong social life or same is the case and what about you, are you a social person or isolated one.bye, have a nice time
Hey up Lukasz, thanks for such lovely shots. I like cats very much but my mother is allergic to their fur so can't keep them. Once I picked up two kittens on the way as I had learnt that their mother had died but unfortunately, I had to put them back to the place I had picked them up. I like feeding pigeons in the morning as I don't have to rear them I just spread grains on the window sill and they come, peck on them and fly away. Best wishes, Naheed
Hi, Nice to hear that you come from Poland (me too, exactly from Warsaw). Today is Monday I think very historical moment for us. I mean game Poland-Croatia. Personally I'm not a fan of football but tonight.... We have to say ourselves that: belief makes miracles...(the same I can say about myself and knowledge of English...) Ps. Send us more photos of Poland (it's very beautiful place...) Regards Majka
I don´t like pets, I suppose because when I was a little girl nobody in the family was fond of them. Changing to football. Also Uruguay had a bad result. It was a draw and we are doubting if we will clasify to the World Cupl
Lukasz, Your house is very nice and you're lucky to live surrounded by nature. I'm a city woman and sometimes in need of green and peace. We don't have any pets as we live in a flat and I think that pets need space. However my mother has a little dog called Evelyn (you can see it in my last blog of April 2008). By for now. Cris
Hi Lucasz Usually I am not very fond of domestic animals but Pirat seems to be very nice. Yes, unfortunately lawn doesn’t knows about holidays, every week it grows just enough too much to have to be mown. Welcome to the club of the weekend mowers !
Hi there Lukasz ! Pirat is so lovely! It reminded me of a cute little dog i used to have. And it seems to me you're going through a cat invasion or something hahahaha You have a nice house. Hope you had a nice weekend !! cheers, Liz
Dear Lukasz, In my opinion, it is very difficult to manage cats and dogs under the same roof. How you are managing both of them under the same roof? It is known from the beginning that they are enemies to each other, so idiom “fight like cat and dog” exist. Especially I can’t tolerate cat as a pet.
Hi Lukasz! It was so kind of you to congratulate on my daughter’s achievement. Thanks. It sounds like you had a nice, relaxing Saturday. It seems to me that you are such a friendly, easy-going type of guy, aren’t you? We finally found out who mows the lawn. :-D I am wondering whether you are a dog or cat person. I think you are both. Wow, so many cats… Look on the bright side; at least you will never have to worry about mice and rats! Talking of animals, I would like to show you a link that I think you might like: http://www.kki-darany.hu/wwwroot/golya/keretek.html I have become addicted to the live 0-24 Stork-webcam. Every time one of my family gets on the computer we open right up to it to see what they are up to. I have been watching them since the middle of April. On the nest there were 5 eggs. All eggs were hatched by the middle of May and they have had a beautiful little brood. What adorable little grey fluff balls they were! Unfortunately, two of stork babies have disappeared. But the other three, Bonbon, Boroka, Baldur, are getting bigger very quickly. It seems that every day they are bigger than the day before. I especially like it when they are snuggled next to each other on the nest at night. There is a night vision camera which does not disturb their natural rhythms. The other day, one of the parent storks (Chuck or Ludmilla- I cannot tell them apart) was preening, and all three of the stork babies were mimicking the parent in unison. It was so beautiful, and funny. I had such a big smile on my face watching that. I have already written to you about the stork family but the strange spam manager has eaten my comment. But I was happy for that because one of the three stork babies has passed away since then. It had been awful if some of the readers would have seen to die the little Baldur. I do hope you and all readers will enjoy watching them. Take care,
Hi,Likazs. All the photos you've sent are fascinating!:-)And i think you are really lucky to have such a nice family! You all seem to be very kind and good persons:-)To be honest i fell in love in your cute dog.Probably because i love animals.Once i had a dog and the problem of having pets is that one take it as a part of the family,so in a sudden accidend or in some other reason causing lost the pain is horrible.I have never had a cat and this is why i've never faced such a problem like yours. Well,i'm eager to see some other photos,as well as other readers,so let us be part of your world:-)Have a nice week.Ciao.
Lukasz, sorry my absence… I have been following you off and on all the same. You and Sophie evoked me to following: “I know a bank whereon the wild thyme blows, Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows”, this citation is from a Midsummer Night´s Dream by Shakespeare. You may not hear from me again Lukasz as I am about to leave for a summer holiday and I am trying to keep away from my computer. But I do hope all the best for you, also my warmest regards to fellow students. Let us all read a lot during the summer time.
Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
