BOOKS ...AND MORE PICTURES

Hi Anne and readers,

The weekend flied and we started the week with very low temperature (3º C). It’s amazing that just last week we turned on the air conditioner and today we had to turn on the heating system!!!

Hope you Anne are enjoying your New Year festival and I’m pleased to read that your pasta dish was a success. By the way, I read the story about the Union Jack and found it very interesting. I loved the pictures you attached of your kids and Steve. You know, I think that Joshua takes after Steve and Raquel takes after you, don’t they?

I want to tell you that you brightened my day on Saturday. I was really worried and after reading your blog I felt very relieved. Thank you for the explanation of the prepositions, now I see it more clearly.

By the way, Esteban enjoyed Rod Stewart Concert very much and luckily it only rained before the Concert began. He asked me to send you these links so that you can watch it.

Anne, about “dinner time”, I think that you do the correct thing. Here in Argentina parents and kids tend to have dinner at the same time (around 9-10) and they all go to sleep around 11. There is not Mummy and Daddy time. I consider that this moment is very important for the couple, don’t you agree? Sometimes I want to sleep at 11 pm but I can’t because I hear the shouting of the kids who live below my flat. Can’t you believe that the children are playing at that time?

Changing the subject, I’ll talk about books. Most of you asked me about the ones I had read.
My favourite writers are John Irving (he is on the top), John Grisham, Elizabeth Adler, Nicholas Evans and David Baldacci.
Well, I’ve read a lot of books in English throughout my life but the ones I most remember are the following:

-Animal Farm by George Orwell (it’s the only book I’ve read by him, I want to buy 1984 following Trudi’s recommendation)

-Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (I liked it but found it a bit rare)

-The property of a Lady by Elizabeth Adler (summary: …she escaped the horrors of war with a priceless gem…and a secret that could change the world). I read it several times because I loved it.

-The testament by John Grisham (I deeply enjoyed it)

-The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown (I liked this book very much)

-City of glass by Paul Auster (I reckon he is a very good writer but I didn’t enjoy much this book)

-The Divide by Nicholas Evans (summary: on a Montana morning, two skiers find the body of a young woman embedded in the ice of a remote mountain creek. She’s Abbie Cooper, a brilliant college student on the run from the FBI and charges of murder. But what was the chain of events that led this golden child so tragically astray?). It’s a very interesting story and keeps you immersed.

-A prayer for Owen by John Irving (I highly recommend this book)

-The eight by Katherine Neville (for all whom like chess and intrigue books)

-A widow for one year by John Irving (this is a gem)

-Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen (I had seen the movie and liked this book very much)

-The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans (I read the book and then went to see the movie starring Robert Redford, but I found that the book was richer). Summary: a child wounded in body and spirit…a horse driven mad by pain…a woman fighting to save them both …and the man who is their only hope….)This is a splendid novel.

-Absolute Power by David Baldacci. It’s really sizzling. It happened to me the same as with the Horse Whisperer. The movie hadn’t the same power as the book.

If you Anne and readers have some books to recommend me go ahead.

Finally, I want to share with all of you the pictures I took the other weekend from Madero Port and the Ecologist Reserve. I can’t believe it was 30º C by then.

This is a picture of me at Madero Port Park

…. At the Ecology Reserve

This is Oscar walking along the drive of the Ecology Reserve

“The bridge of the Women”. The reason of its name is because all the streets at Madero Port have names of women.

Some more pictures of Madero Port

It’s time to prepare the dinner so I’ll say good-bye to all of you.

Until tomorrow……..

Hello,Cristina,I am back.Your living place is so nice and clean. In my city, the sky is grey blue, and there is no so many creative grand buildings.I hope I can visit your country one day in future.

Hi dear Cristina , The photos were amazing . could you explain a bit about the huge building in the seventh picture . and I loved the port photos . I haven’t been yet somewhere like that yet . the infos about books were nice . I specially liked your summery about some books . I have read Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte and Sense and Sensibility , but in Persian in the past . I have read many English books newly but I can't see any common book in your list . there is not good facilities to find famous English books in my city .and I just buy any English learner book that I can find in upper intermediate level . But I have read two books by John Grisham, Chamber and rainmaker . Both of them were really interesting for me as I love detective and law stories . Have you heard about them ? have a nice week and hope to hear from you again ( I hope this comment publish , finally , where are you Blog staffs , please help my comment ) take care and bye .

Hi Cris: Thank you very much for talking about books. (I love reading) Really you live in a beautiful place. I would love to visit Buenos Aires some day. It's time to work, so I say bye bye for the moment. Mercè

Hi Cris! The weather in Hong Kong is also changeable, as sometimes its cold and sometimes its hot. This extreme weather may make people get sick, so take care your body, Cris! The photos you posted are amazing and I loved it so much :) Have a good day, Erika.

Hi Cristina! You've maintained a nice figure:). You are looking no more then 30 years isn't it great ;)?. Im quite impressed that you are into books that much, unfortunately i never tried but now im trying to start reading books and i've started from 'The best laid plans" by sidney sheldon. I like her way of writing and its an interesting book. Tc and keep blogging. Tata

The fact of playing kids at eleven o’clock sounds awful. But maybe it is normal for a hot country? Sorry, I didn’t read almost all books which you have mentioned. I am reading a lot but the books which I am interesting will not interesting to other people, I afraid. They are about ballet and other part of them is non-fiction literature. But I can recommend my preferred writer Haruki Murakami “Kafka on the Shore”, “Norwegian wood” and any other books which are written by this writer. I am enjoying of reading Stephen King too but I understand that he will not your preferred writer maybe. Thank you for nice pictures of Madero Port. The fact that the streets here have had the names of women is wondering to me. Why? It happened not often. Best wishes,

Dear Cristina, When I read your blog, you post that you were worried about preposition quiz Anne brought up. In my opinion, it is not the matter to be worried that much. We are in the process of learning English language and we are trying our best. Language learning in not easy process and even you carefully read article written by professional writer you can notice mistakes but their mistakes are skip over and content of article are given high preference. Your list of books that you have read is praise able and pictures are so nice.

Hy Cristina: About the mealtime I supose it depends on th countryyou live. I usually have dinner more o les 9-10pm and my kids too. I'm not really agee on have dinner separately because in the table de kids learn manners seeing their parents. I´m very pleased at your book list. Next week is one of the most beautiful day in Barcelona. Sant Jordi (Saint George). This day (working day in fact) men give his woman (mother, daugther, wife...)a rose and woman give man a boock. In the crowded strets the authors sign de books and all people is out wandering to buy a book and smelling roses. I have to decide wich book I have to buy (very dificult) maybe in your list....

Hi Cris! What a beautiful place! Thank you for sharing them with us :-). Oooh... I love talking about books. They are my passion! Well, if you´ve liked Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen you probably will like Persuasion. This novel is my favourite among all Jane Austen´s novels. I recommend also a book I liked very much reading which is The Book Thief by Markus Suzak. The story is very gripping and touching. Therfore, it´s hard to put this book down :-). Good night, Ana Paula.

Hi Cris! Despite the fact that I'm fond of reading English books too, in your long list there is only one book I've also read. It's written by Jane Austen. I was affected by its surprise ending. Have you read "Pride and prejudice"? The movie is so touching! Recently I've come to an end of "Magician" by Somerset Maugham. He's my favourite writer. Summary: inexplicable magic struggles against common sense and finally drives a beautiful woman mad whose fiancé unsuccessfully trying to save her suffers strongly and begins to believe in magic... It's really thrilling. As for your photos, they are great. Most of all I liked a shady park and rose bushes! Keep writing such interesting blogs, well done! Irina

Hi cris: i read all of your blog . it is nice explanation about argantine . especially , pictures that you put in blog are awesome. but I think in your introduction about argantine one thing is missed and it is football. in some countries as like as Iran , that people love football , argantine is famous . I love argantine football player and always in world cup i'm an argantine supporter . when I was child in 1986 I loved Maradona playing and now I love lionel playing messi. would u explain so much about football in argantine ? especially abou to important club ( Rio dojunier and River Plate , I'm not sure abou spell of club name ) . I heared , they always have challenge . be happy : bye.
