My life in Universities.

Hello Readers, I’ll talk about Universities in Brazil and something about the education system and my experience about this issues.

In 1981, the student wanted to go to University had to do a written exam about all subjects learned in the fundamental and intermediate courses. (There are two parts in the Brazilian Education System before the University, funfamental with 9 years and intermediate with 3 years)

When the students signed up to do the written exam, they had to choose 3 options of University they want to ingress. If the student got a higher grade he/she could ingress at first option. The first option, the student put the government-funded University because they don’t have to pay to study.

In that time, the Computer Science was a branch of mathematic and only government-funded Universities had this course.

My first option was to UFRJ University, the second one was FAHUPE University (private) and third, I don’t remember.

Unfortunately, I hadn’t enough grade to ingress to UFRJ and I had to go to FAHUPE. The FAHUPE, didn’t have Computer Science, only pure mathematic and in 1982 I had started the course in pure math and I finished in 1986. This course gave me permission to teach math in fundamental and intermediate courses.

I didn’t give up the Computer Science, In 1986, I had started in my second job like a Trainee in System Analyst in the same time I started my first post graduation in Systems Analysis.

After this time I worked with a lot of technologies like Cobol, Basic, Pascal, Clipper, Powerbuilder, Oracle, Data warehouse, Business Intelligent well-know BI, Java and .Net. All this technologies applied in a Business Systems to support the directors and principals to make decisions in a lot of Companies, which I worked.

I should have done a Master's Degree in Software Engineering through this years, however, the Universities offer this course, want students dedication only to study. Well, I couldn’t left my job and gave up to make money to spend my time into a University even the government pay me to study, because the income less than half of salary.

In 2005, I decided to make other post graduation in Project Management Software. This decision was good, because I could update my Knowledge. Another point was, when I approached the University again, I found out the Master's Degree in Information Technology which accept professionals can share the time between Job and University.

I think this story is a lit bit confused. What’s the difference post graduation and Master's Degree here in Brazil? Post graduation is for the professional wish to specialize in some subject and have to write end term about this subject. Master's Degree, the students have to make research about some subject and write a thesis with scientific basis.

About the University, That’s all Dear Readers.

Marianna from Slovakia, I hope solve your anaemia. I think you could change your meal habits to test your anaemia go away.

Takehito from Japan. Here the Brazilians using rise for every meals. It’s common in barbecue to use a mix eggs, ions and a kind of flour called “Farofa”.

Tanya from Ireland, I had a similar experience here in Brazil when I’ve stayed at Belo Horizonte City and I and my friends have had to sleep on the street, but, this is a long old story.

Hi Yanko! I like your blog, it's very exciting for me. I thing, you are very interesting man. In my country we like meat prepared in barbecue, too. Do you know for our traditional food, cabbage rolls, Croatian “sarma”? It’s mixed mince meat with rice, onion, garlic, eggs and a spice in sauerkraut… I wish you all the best. Bye

Hello Yanko! It was interesting know how you were so much fond of computer technology. I say my thank you for telling about Lambada in your previous blog. Best wishes, Naheed

Yanko, it has been an interesting month with you. As I am unable to participate in this discussion during the weekend, I say farewell to you now. Your barbeque dinners sound so appetising that I also would like to have a meal there. However I think it is not very likely; instead I will have a toast in your honour. Thank you for sharing you life with us all.

Hello, Yanko! The story which you have told about your studies is very interesting. We have known more now. I am going to continue to learn too but it is English because I am living in the country where I must speak in this language. So I will continue to learn it in the college in September. Bye,

Hi Yanko! Thank you for your reply, you have hit the nail on the head just like the doctor. He had told me the same as you have suggested to eat more meat and that even my cholesterol level is very low. I have never described myself as being a vegetarian but it is true that I prefer to eat meals cooked from vegetables. I am a bit curious about your wife, too, as you have mentioned only a short interesting fact about her connection to Italy. All the best to you and your family!

Dear Yanko, After a long time I am writing my comment. Your last blog gives us clear picture that one should stay and pass entrance exam to enroll a university. This is good method to choose a good and committed student. Your graduation in mathematics certainly helped you to do computer courses and in my opinion, mathematical background is essential to become a professional computer programmer. It was your great determination to continue computer science for further studies. You are able to give gist of what you have done in academic field. I sincerely hope for your success in every field of life.

Hi Yanko, how are you? Thanks for sharing your experiences at University. Here in Argentina the University is public (government funded) and it has a higher level than the private ones (they are few). Since 1985 you don't have to do an exam to enter. You only has to attend a one year course of preliminary and some of the subjects you have and do well on the exams serve as subjects of the regular course at the University. I was lucky because I decided to enter the University of Economic Science in that year. You can work and study and you can get a degree after 6 years aprox.Actually if you work all day as me the University can take you 8 or 9 years, but at last you get your degree. Have a nice weekend.

Hi Yanko! Wouldn´t be great if our government could give more attention to the education sistem? Sometimes even if one has the ProUni scholarship it´s hard to this one continues at the university. Unfortunately, for some people go to the university is still a dream difficult to fulfill. Best wishes, Ana Paula.

Hi again Yanko! Could I drop some words to Marianna, please? Oh Marianna, I hope you get over your anaemia soon, and then you can celebrate drinking a wonderful cup of expresso :-). Thanks Yanko. Ana Paula.

i think it,s very interesting to read this topic and very much informative, yanko mantion in the beginning he wanted study in computer science but that time he didn,t get that chance but after a time being he,d got it .you,re lucky

Hey Yanko, this article has given lots of knowledge of Brazilian Universities. Thanks for mentioning the difference between masters and post graduation courses. I was really confused because in my country there is no such difference.

Hi, Yanko. Impressing story about your self upgrading lifeway. Apart from that all, you’re spending time for learning English, which means that instead of having some more beer and endless relaxing talk with friends, you have to schedule your spear time to upgrade yourself, don’t you? Keep on your wise way of living

I have struggled for choosing my courses in university for a very long time. And i never choose maths finally because many seniors told me that they had limited job opportunities after graduation. So i chose accountancy finally.

Hi Yanko , How it 's going ? A i 'm going to a trip , this is my last comment on your entry . Thabks for your all efforts and your interesting Blogs . At the end , i wana to say in Iran there is an exam to enter in public universities . But the point is that we would have about 100 option to choose if our grade was good . this days with many different private universities there are lots of opportunity for education whcih were n't avalible about 15 years ago ( when i took my univesity entrance exam , how old i 'm !) . At the end i wish the best for you , your job and your family have fun and byeeee

This is my first time came here. It is great.
