My City, Rio de Janeiro

First of all, I want to say thanks for warmly reception from the readers.

Today I will tell you about my city and I have to confess! I have researched some data to write the words below.

Rio de Janeiro is the second major city of Brazil, behind São Paulo. The city is capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The city was the capital of Brazil for almost a century--from 1763 to 1822 while it was a Portuguese colony and from 1822 to 1960 as an independent nation. It was the de facto capital of the Portuguese Empire from 1808 to 1821. Commonly known as just Rio, the city is also nicknamed A Cidade Maravilhosa - "The Marvelous City".

It is famous for its spectacular natural setting, its Carnival celebrations, samba and other music, hotel-lined tourist beaches, such as Copacabana and Ipanema,

paved with decorated black and cream swirl pattern mosaics. Some of the most famous local landmarks in addition to the beaches include the giant statue of Jesus, known as Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) atop Corcovado mountain, which has recently been named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World;

mountain Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf) with its cable car;

the Sambódromo, a giant permanent parade stand used during Carnival;

and Maracanã stadium, one of the world's largest football stadiums.

Rio also boasts the two world's largest forests inside an urban area. The first is the forest in Parque Estadual da Pedra Branca (White Stone State Park). The second, almost connected to the first, is the famous Floresta da Tijuca, or 'Tijuca Forest'.

Rio has a Tropical climate. The temperature occasionally reaches over 40°C (104°F) in inland areas of the city, and maximum temperatures above 30°C (86°F) can happen every month. In the main tourist areas (south zone, where the beaches are located), the temperature is moderated by the cool sea-breezes from the ocean.

This is Rio, with its Tropical climate, the beautiful places and happy and friendly people called “Cariocas”.

There are a lot of beautiful cities In Brazil like Vitoria at Espirito Santos the Adriana’s City and Belo Horizonte at Minas Gerais Paulos’s City. Two of readears at this blog. (Aquele abraço para vocês)

I have some nice friends at this cities, unforgettable place and people.

With best wishes,
Yanko.

Hello Yanko! What a lovely pictures. Best wishes, Ana Paula.

I like the beaches and the forests.Maracanã stadium is wonderful!

Hello, Yanko. It's really beautifull place you're living in. You're happy to live near the ocean, in the town of carnival celebrations. Do you or someone from your family go in for any kind of water sports? Do you take part in carnivals. Do you have any storms because of the ocean? Could you also answer the question about the word "Cariocas"? If I'm not mistaken it's the plural form of the word. So what'll be the singular form of this word? Thank you. Bye-bye.

Hi Yanko! It was really interesting to read about your city and see the pictures. It's amazing!!I suppose life can be very pleasant and exciting there.Best regards.

By using a blog we can tell to other people about our belief or our country.we can share our information with other people and have interact with other people.i enjoy to read other friends blogs.i have a Farsi blog.

Hello, Yanko. Your city looks very interesting. Thank you for the wonderful photos! It's really strange to imagine there has been a European capital not situated in Europe.

Hi Yanko. What a warm blog! One word that defines Rio for me is nostalgia because It's been a long time since I have been in Rio. I lived there in the south zone, between Flamengo beach and Glória. I used to wake up very early in the morning to take the dog for walking along the beach. I cannot forget the afternoons I spent at that huge public library that was not far from where I lived. I could reach the place on foot.I learned how to like pineaple with the "cariocas" at the beach where they sell pieces of pineaple what is a scrumptious meal under the heat. The "cariocas" used to laugh a lot because we "capixabas" call "chup-chup" what you all call it "sacolé" in Rio. I know all the famous beaches but the beach that remained in my heart was Itaipuaçu beach far from the urban area where I spent almost all weekends. Do you have a picture of Itaipuaçu, Ianko? Well...I must stop writing for the time being. I shall prepare myself for work. Have a nice day.

Hi, Yanko! The city where are you living is seemed very nice. I read about Brazilian carnival a long time ago. Can you tell us about it? Last year I saw dancers from Brazilian, they were presenters of your famous footballer Pele. He was invited to Ireland to present his new autobiographical book. I didn’t see Pele himself because the shop where he was sight his book was too crowded but I saw the dancers. They were wonderful!

Welcome Yanko! What marvellous pictures! I wish I was there! I am looking forward to reading your entries. Best wishes,

Hi Yanko, I love all pictures that you pose today. Especially, Maracanã stadium, it is such immense and superb place. Some day I will go there if I win lottos. See you around.

Hi man!! Rio is really fantastic! I'd like to visit someday! Tell us more about another cities of the state that have you been visiting... Your blog is very good!! Thanks!

hi yanko!how are you doing?it's the first time i make a comment in a blog like this. I enjoied reading about Rio and a day I hope I can come there!Could you tell me something about the food in Brasil? You know here, in Italy, we eat pasta and pizza and other specialities, like ravioli (:P the best kind of pasta in my opinion!!!), if a day you'll come ehre don't exhitate to go to a restaurant and eat a plat of ravioli!believe me, its simply awesome and soo taste!:D uhm, in the nezt post could you write somethining about spending free time in Rio?I would like to know what people do in this side of the world :D best wishes, Lory aka Tara the SamuraiGirl

Hi, Yanko! It is me again. I just have seen my commentary and my mistakes. I have written “I saw dancer from Brazilian” but “Brazilian” is an adjective. I must to say “from Brazil”. I wrote “he was sight his book” but “sight” do not mean something like “write down” or “put down”. It would be correct to write “He was signed his book”. I am sure that Trudi will be able to find much more mistakes, ever in this message too. But… We are only students. We are learning. There I can let out a grim (heavy) sigh…

Hi Yanko, How wonderful like a fairy land your country's beauty is. Thanks

hi,you live in really spectacular city. i just wish to come and see it by myself. you got a very impressive photos of your hometown, and it seems that you had been done a good work before writing and describing your town.

Sorry Yanko, I know the Rio de Janeiro and like a Brazilian, unfortunately you forgot to show us, some pictures with the poor and violent "favelas", the lost bolls every day, a lot of people that is murdering every day. Now for example there is a big problem in the city, a little mosquito spread one disease on the city "dengue", because we don't have basic water treatment, don’t' have serious health programs from the Government. So unfortunately. we have more problems and ugliest than beautiful. Ahh!! São Paulo has the same problems...

Thanks Yanko,the pictures are really nice and it is just provoking me to visit Rio.You have given good historical information of this city but need more for visitors such as transport,hotel etc.
