May there be peace

I knew that the issue I chose to write last night was a painful one. But in my opinion the good thing was, that we all came to a same conclusion: A war is the most destructed act on earth.

I also noticed that there are so many similarities with all the nations and that everyone at end must want peace. At least I believe that we, human beings, have learned something from the horrors of the world.

Mikhail; I am unable to answer your question as I don’t know the history in such a detail, but you may find the answers in history books, maybe even Wikipedia.

I am not keen at all to continue talking about the war, it frightens me to think that people with all the knowledge and wisdom would still want to harm each other. The reason why I wrote about it in the first place was to open a little bit of the Finnish history to you. After all, our history partly forms us.

Sorry that I didn´t make myself clear when I was talking about my father. What I meant to tell is that my father is coping and living on his own (by himself). He can make his own meals and even do his own laundry. Luckily one of my sisters lives near by and offers father a dinner at the weekends.

Cleaning help he needs, but that is very difficult to come by, although we are supposed to have good services for elderly and particularly for war veterans, who are leaving us by numbers all time due an old age.

Few more words about Finland: We have been a full member of European Union (since 1995). Although we are a small nation, Finland is a major operator in the manufacture of pulp and paper products and one can say that Finns are world leaders in the construction of paper machinery, and I must not forget to remind you of Nokia again, the company being an amazing global story.

And one more thing; Finland is a country of thousands of lakes and islands; 187,888 lakes (larger than 500 m²) and 179,584 islands to be precise.

Rachel: I will do my home work tomorrow, I already been through it, but I think it deserves a different Blog (not with this unhappy war issue).

On a happier note, I want to share a nice picture of Katri and Touho with you again. The energy is there, right!

So my next Blog is my homework, I will also tell why about 600 charter flights from Britain land to Finnish Lapland in December.

Maybe you want to tell what do you do for a living?

Hello Leila, I have a question for you… What about the Education in your country? How the school is organized? In Italy there is the elementary school, The middle school, High school, and the university. What about in Finland? Thank you in advance Mariangela

Dear Leila, When I read your blogs starting from day before yesterday, I found same situations in Nepal. Though our country remains independent but it is always in political shadow of India. Nepal is surrounded by India in its three sides and only the southern part is surrounded China. After ten-year political agitation from Maoist party, peace process started last year and today (22 November) was decided to held election to choose members of constitutional assembly. Unfortunately, political parties can not come into unanimous decision to held election as decided earlier. Election is essential if political parties respect people’s right sovereignty. History of your country, reminded me how long we have to suffer to restore peace and for better future. In every field of life, we are feeling interference from India and other countries. Political parties are playing their own orchestra and creating confusion to people and do not hesitate to claim that after election all problems will be solved automatically. Their desire to get lion share in political scenario and try to play unfair games don’t give any ray of hopes to people but we are not able to raise our common voice against them and forced to listen their orchestra. As I already mentioned in my previous post that we have big potential for national development if we get right tract and strong leadership who really loves this country and able to implement economic resources only for development of nations. Due to postpone of this election, political turmoil and unrest in civil life started in many parts of country and some political group do not hesitate to kidnapping and even killing people to fulfill their political interest and make situations more foggy.

Hi, Michail. I hesitate a little, but here are some thoughts I, had referring to your question. My grandmother was born in 1885. Finland was a Grand Duchy in the Russian Empire. Russia was feared for. Grandma told about the panic spread when the tzar's husacks (riding police? I don't know how to translate) arrived. When time passed Finland's autonomy as a (privileged) Duchy was reduced and threated more and more. There was also a growing nationalism. At about 1917 there were people in Finland as well as in Russia that hoped for a worldwide revolution. But still more important to the Finns was the wish of independence. Russia and later on the Soviet Union was feared by Finns not only before but even after Finland's independence. I think inequality between the wealthy and the poor were smaller in Finland than in Russia. - Some twenty years after Finland's independence some politicians decide how they want to share the countries between them. I refer to Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact with the secret protocol. The Pact was called Treaty of Non-aggression between Germany and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. I've heard about Russians thinking there never was any secret protocol. There are also Russians who think Finland had ASKED them to attack Finland. "The word puppet can mean a political leader installed, supported and controlled by more powerful forces, with no legtimacy in the country itself"(from Answers.com). Read an article about the Winter War in Wikipedia and compare it to what you learnt at school.- I fully agree with Leila: May there be peace!

Hello Leila! How was your day? I hope you have had a good day today. Wars are really sad indeed. Unfortunately, here in Brazil we are living a time of violence compared with a civil war. So little has been done, which make us very disappointed. People who live on the periphery of the big cities are the most affected by this situation. It´s a snow ball Leila; lack of quality education, which makes harder to find a job position, which makes the unemployment grows and the informal jobs as well. Teeneagers without a life perspective, easily to be seduced by the crime. You know Leila, Brazilians are brave people, very hard-working that don´t give up easily. We are learning to denfend our rights and ask for more efficient attitudes from our government. I think only like this we can come up with a solution for the moment we are living now. Oh, I think I´m talking about a very heavy subject, aren´t I? I´m sorry Leila. Let´s talk about something more cheerful. The photo of Katri and Touho is great! Both are beautiful :-). Good nigth Leila, see you tomorrow, Ana Paula.

Hi! Leila, Animals and Bicycles are eco-friendly for transportation and travelling. In most of the Indian villages Bullock cart is a part of farming and most of the farmers depands on bullocks for farm. chandra

Hi mam!! Nice topic you have chosen for discussion today; I think you are right! Sometime I don’t understand why people are still ready to war though they know very well that our earth is facing global worming and climate change situation, I think those people which are not serious about it are mind less chickens. It seems that some people well known what the value of money but reset is don’t know how to use it that’s why they are using it for making mass distraction weapon and terrorism. They making bombs and testing and stocking them I don’t understand why; to whom they are scared, why we divided our world into borders, why we have require passports and legal formalities, why we cant go freely anywhere we want to go; why we treating poor as bed and reach as good, why we treating them as a wastage of society, why we don’t use this money for poor, for their health, food, education, shelter! Do you know we always thinking about our self and we never think about those which are poor, orphans and older. Your topic remind us the past situation of war time, how people were suffered and wasted their valuable life in meaning less war which only gave them tear and sorrow. I think this topic should not used only for just discussion purpose; this is our duty to help those people how required help; and treat them as a human being. And we can avoid war if we follow Mahatma Gandhi’s rules of non-violence; we can short out our problem through peace full discussion and talks. So this is my request to everyone here to pls save our world and make this world like haven where every one is treated equal and same, do you know god is no where, he is living in our hearts so I hope you understand what I mean to say. Have a nice day! See you later Take care mam byeeee Manoj Pandey India

Hi Leila!Yesterday I was out off my office on a control in a hospital.I am working for a health care insurance institution now. And, gosh Ana Paula!, reading your comment my eyes were just full of tears when another collegue entered here in to my room. It was enough as Leila is considering all our comments, yes very nice and all my best regards to your father, Leila! As I´ve read about that remarkable history issue I remembered of my visit to St.Peterburg. On the small trip to the countryside I could sense the peace of birch trees on the broad planes land. I highly agree that history forms us and it is living with us if we want or not. That is hard enough to rule over oneself even harder over nations. Sharing your thoughts here you recollected this my almost forgotten personal history flashback which could made me being aware that once I was so near to Finland. Over the few past evenings I´ve considered if my next painting attempt shouldn´t be such hard issue as horses? But I suppose the challenge in the last Katri photo is going to be above my abillity.

Hello Leila and everybody, the weekend has finally arrived and I hurry to congratulate you all on this wonderful event. While reading some of the comments left here by the readers [you, actually], I felt a little uneasy. It is hard to stay objective while talking about such sore issues as war is. This is why my personal opinion is to stay away from such topics as religion, politics and partly history. History is all written by human beings, it can't be objective by definition. So it is best to leave history to people who lived in it and let ourselves create our own one. Before I write too much, I would like to say that it is important to know history but one must not be captured by it.

Hello Leila! That's true, instead of using wisdom and knowledge for the betterment, people are more keen on using them for destruction. I wish sense prevails upon them. Along with this, I would like to say that Katri looks graceful and Touho, I would like to call him 'The brown beauty'. All the best wishes to all, Naheed

Leila, I would like to hear you talk about Finn literature. Best.

Hi Leila, Your blog always has a nice inspiration. It reminds me to recheck my English learning student blog of BBC of May 2007 to see what I was thinking at those times, it’s a surprise to find (November 24, 2007) a new comment on my first entry of May 1, 2007. Precisely, BBC English student and teacher blogs have a wide reach all the time. That is to say, your blog would be read not just this month, it will be read in the future as well. Indeed, what an amazing global lot we are (quoted the blog title of November 20, 2007). If the people and culture could be understood by each other, then, there will be peaceful everywhere in the world. By the way, I am very impressed by Ana Paula from Brazil (BBC Student blogger of April 2007), she reads and comments on the student and teacher blog every single month, or even every entry and it’s amazing. Best regards to you and your family and your friends and your country.

Hello Leila and other mats! War always a painful experience and remembering painful events are also painful in it self. But we have you to remember it, to narrate it and to write about it; in order to give message of ‘hat war’ to our next generations. I am sorry for bothering you that you write a full paragraph for the explaining the sentence. Thank you so much for your cooperation and kindness. Please pay my respect to grandpa. Is it possible that you provide some basic information (and of course photos) of some of the big and famous lacks of Finland. This time Katri picture is so nice, but she looking a little angry!!! lol

To Kirsti Thank you very much for the detailed explanation! As I cought, it's now pretty foggy and full of different conjectures, but I'm sure it did not reflect real nation's feeling and wish, but was just a politisian under-carpet games.

Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
