What an amazing global lot we are
Firstly thank you Rachel about of and off -explanation. About the visitor in our fire place in New Zealand: The possum was hurdled out with a great difficulty with brooms and sticks through a cardboard tunnel unharmed of course. For those you haven´t encountered a possum in their fire place, I have added a new link so that you can make yourself acquainted with this “vicious beast.” I also added some other brand new links.
Rachel I like James Blunt very much also and “Men at work” is my all time favorite; give me a vegemite sandwich anytime. I better let you tell what vegemite is, if someone doesn´t know.
Adriana, I remembered you while watching a programme of Brazil on TV some days ago. I was also pleased to learn that you follow Formula. I hope you son´s English exam went well; please tell him never give up. Ana Paula you sound to be a romantic lady, I am also a sensitive person, two of the kind we are. Brazil to me sounds like music, energy and joy, regardless of difficulties… that your country no doubt has also. I think Adriana that “God saves us” sounds just right. I also believe that goodness of people is something that one must trust regardless.
London times I will write before the end of November, we will also discuss about education. Kirsti I have worked and lived in Hammerfest. For those who are unaware where Hammerfest is, I tell that the city is in Norway and it is the most northerly town in the world.
Thank you for asking how my day went with Katri. Very well, we had a good time together; we did some shopping. You maybe noticed that she had left a little note for me as a response for my bog; as she said I was interviewed in the newspaper about writing a blog!
And yes I am very fond of her and extremely proud…Anastasia yes at times I have been worried of her and about the possible accidents she might encounter. In fact she has been out of work for three weeks, as a horse (not her own) kicked her rather hard on her upper leg.
I was glad to notice that my writing has brought back some nice memories even as far as Dubai. One´s own childhood is a very important life time source of power.
About the food questions: We eat herrings a lot in Christmas time and also in the summer. Yes let us talk more about Christmas later on. We have Italian restaurants here in Finland and pizzas and pasta are very much appreciated.
Marianna best wishes to you mother. Hoshil did the Reindeer Teardrop cure you headache? Pary; swimming in the freezing water is a very extreme thing to do. People are given instructions how to do it right. How I do it? Just about when you are going under, I would advise you to take a deep breath and lower yourself calmly and some what in a slow motion up to your neckline. I found (I have not done it this year) it very lovely to bend my neck backwards so that the back of your neckline feels the cold embrace. The idea is to keep breathing deeply and calmly and take a few strokes (5 – 20); some people stay under only a while, others swim longer. When you come out of the water, do it slowly also, that way the experience is more vivid. Once you are out, I never used to go to sauna, because I wanted the gold feeling last longer, in fact your skin is totally red and warm (blood circulation comes to the surface) after a swim and you feel totally serene.
Naheed avocado is pear shape, green fruit and with a thick skin. It is rather oily and it has a quite large stone. I like it with salads with lemon juice. Naheed have you just graduated as an accountant? Silwal Kishor thanks again for your participation. I know only a little about of your part of the world. Current Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso has visited Finland several times. I am somewhat ignorant about Nepal and Tibet, maybe you would kindly tell us a bit about the issue.
Rachel asked us a few questions; I am trying to answer them next. Usually it is an unexpected issue that may crack me up, although I seldom loose my control. I know it may be boring. If I am showing off, I usually do something very stupid. I take my hat off to very many people, but I would like to mention Sir Edmund Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Nogay. I also admire a great deal Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa. Not only I would take my hat off for them, I would bow many times.
About chucking things out, well that hit me hard. My daughter used to say, that I would chuck her out, if she stayed in one place for too long. I admit I chuck things out weekly.
Wild berries that are rather common here in Finland are; cranberry, cloudberry, raspberry, blueberry and some arctic brambles are also found in Finland.
What types of berries grow wild in you country?
The photos today by Katri have been taken during the summer time. Touho looks very happy with his mate.

Hi,Leila Thank for your concern about my headache.yap!I am much better now. I've just been informed that Finland is the 6th happiest country in the world.if so I am very happy for you.Have a wonderful day!
Hi, Leila. I read an article some years ago about cranberries in America. The described berries and the harvest of them was not like the berries I know from Finland. I also a few years ago tasted cranberry juice. It had almost, but not quite, the same taste as the juice made from the berries I know from Finland. So I thought that you were mistaken, that the Finnish cranberries should not be called cranberries. But I found that you are right, at least partly. Wikipedia says 'The Vaccinium vitis-idaea – often called lingonberry or cowberry, also called foxberry, mountain cranberry, lowbush cranberry, and partridgeberry...' Here where I live in France there are wild raspberries in the forest and also blackberries and a kind of wild cherries. We never pick strawberries in the forest because they might be contaminated by a parasite, the echinococcose.
Thanks Leila for "I hope you son´s English exam went well", my son's test has been pretty well, no errors. Don't worry he never gives up. I've taught him only to change his mind if he intended to do something that could be harmful to him. I don't blame you for not knowing much about Brazil as it's a huge country with numerous diversities from North to South and of course Portuguese would be a difficult language for being aware of our issues so you might be dependent of the news that are spread to you. You would be surprised to realise that Brazil is not only music, energy and joy but a place full of hard-working and creative people that have always a smile while working. Glad to know "God, save us!" sounds perfect to you as I must include all people and nations with their issues by making this request to God. I don't like segregations in my pray. Bye Leila so don't worry, be happy!
Hello Leila!!! Oh dear, thank you. You´re so kind :-). Anyway, you were interviewed! My goodness you´re a celeb person! So... how was the interview? Did you feel nervous about giving an interview? Please let us know. In answer to your question, berries aren´t common here. However, in some Brazil states you can find blackberries growing wild. Have a beautiful day, Ana Paula. PS-Touho looks gorgeous on the pictures :-).
Terve Leila, I must admit that these past three days I only could skim your blogs. The end of the year approaches and I have more and more tasks to do and less spare time. Tomorrow I am leaving for a short trip, three days, to my home-town. I will try to sent a comment from there as I will have more free time (I hope at least). I was just wondering what was a possum. I had a vague idea it was a kind of small animal but now I know better. By the way, concerning the links you give us. What are the rules ? Well, I know you propose them, but do you decide too when to remove them, or do they stay only for a limited period of time, a couple of days ? Katri takes very nice pictures. Read you tomorrow.
How are you Leila? I should say thank you on telling me more about avocado. As for my Accounting education, it will take me a year and a half as I have just started, and I must say that tution and exam facilities are making things a bit harder to catch up with time. But I'm quite positive about these hardships, and thanks to the internet that I can catch up with most of the reading material. Reading about berries makes my mouth water. The berries that come by in the summer are 'falsa', they are sweet and tangy and are about half an inch or so in diameter. The other one is called 'bair', they usually come by in winter, however, one of their kinds is the summer treat. All the berries have stones in them. Looking forward to reading your next meaty post. Until then take care, Naheed
hi i am from iran . my hometown is north of iran the place near the caspian sea . that is wellknown for its khaviar. the first name of my sister is liela. for your information i must tell that in the ancient time leili(leila) and majnoon were to person thatloved each other. in iran the majnoon is the symbol of love. becoucse at last he become mad for leili . there is a lot number of poem about this two sweethearts that writed by one of our national poet(nezami). last september i had a trip to sweden. i was very interested to travel to your country by viking line but unfortunatly we havent enough time
How are things with you and your family, Leila? In Russia we have the same berries as you have in Finland, plus wild strawberries. Some people try to make some money out of selling the berries they pick up in the forest. They are normally country people. I picked wild strawberries as a child, It was not bucketfuls of course, because the berries are tiny and it takes ages to fill one titchy container. I did it mainly to give the berries to my dad as a birthday present as they come in season in early July and his birthday is at the beginning of July. I once went into a forest to pick raspberries. I was about 12 or so at that time and was very excited and determined to bring home a 10-litre bucket full of delicious raspberries. As soon as we entered the forest we were hemmed in on all sides by tons of hungry mosquitos. The berries were very small and they didn't grow all in one place, we had to strain for every single step because the forest was all overgrown with tall bushes and stingy nettles and everything was a comlete shambles! Now I will fastforward past other bitter moments to the minute of immense pride when we managed to make it back home and I presented my grandma with a 3-litre bucket full of delicious wild raspberries. It was quite an adventure but I don't think I will ever repeat this experience. As you mentioned vegemite, I remembered how I wrongly assumed that marmite must taste like marmalade just because the names sound similar! So as soon as a jar of marmite was introduced to me, I twisted the lid open and spread the blakish (I even thought, chocolatey. How naive!) substance richly over a slice of nice gooey white bread. Imagine my disappointment when instead of sweetness I could taste something bitter, salty and something else at the same time! I felt cheated!! That was the only time in my life when food tasted totally different from what I had expected it to be. Hope you haven't had such letdowns in your life. Sincerely, Ana
Hi Leila! Horses are admirable but I take respect to them. It became more common to farm them here around nowadays. And the swimming strategy sounds more encouragingly now, too. Here is the sunny day again which I hope for your northern country too, for the sun makes evrything perfect. I have to confess that I felt miserable some days for my English doesn´t develop and as I compared to you I wouldn´t be able to create such blogs everyday. Moreover, my days are the same one after another(Adriana, you see it wouldn´t work with me!)Thanks for all lovely post and expecting the next!
Hi, I've never thought that Finland is such beautiful country. Your nature looks excellent in every season. Marianna don't worry I always repeat myself: day by day, step by step will be OK!!! Certainly one day you note that improved your English. Don't give up! Regards Majka
Hello Leila. I also like Men at Work very much, specially songs like Down Under and It´s a mistake. I grew up in the city, but in summer time we always went with my mother and my sister to my grandparents house, in the country side. There we colect lots of blackberries, eat some of them an whith the rest, my mom made mermelade for winter. Wonderfull memories. Thanks four your posts and good bye
Hello Leila, thank you about your news of Italian cuisine in your country. About berries wild, in Italy we can find Raspberries, bilberries, cranberries, strawberries, acai, black currant. I know that to Eat fresh berries and raw amplifies the functions of the nervous system, the berries protect the nervous system, help to cure cancer and Alzheimer's disease, maintain healthy eyes, enhance memory. Go berries wild!!!!!!!!!!!!! Back soon! Mariangela
Hi Leila! Yes we have all kinds of wild berries mentioned by you, and all it is picked and preserved for winter. The most widespread berries are cranberry, lingonberry ( or cowberry, also called foxberry ), cloudberry, blueberry and blackberry. TO Kirsti from France : It looks like Wikipedia is not quite certain here. cranberry and lingonberry are absolutely different types of berries. Cranberry grows on swamps in my region, one by one, and lays on the ground, but lingonberry grows in forest, about 5 berries per small branch. They are both sour but taste is very different.
