I am exhausted… but so very happy
Why am I beat? Well I have been working very long hours since Monday in organizing a very special work related transnational gathering. The meeting was successful in my opinion, and the feedback we received let us to believe we did OK.
First of all I say how very pleased I am to be here and learn English under your professional guidance. My name is Leila and I live in Northern Finland; my home town is Oulu.
I do my best to keep you interested, but I also hope that you are very severe by pointing out my mistakes. When I write in English I keep on making grammar mistakes, I don’t get my prepositions right and I lack of looseness in my writing style.
I think that writing is kind of a performance. I have been watching American Idol on (or in… what about the article?) TV and I have been trying to find out; what makes a good performance.
I think that a good story is made with emotion, the act has to have a story, it needs to flow, passion has to be at present, the whole performance has to be technically right and finally it has to entertain. I know it is far too much for me try to achieve all that, I am merely trying to analyze, how one can try to improve oneself.
On a lighter note, I very much doubt that my blogs are going to be a great entertainment, but one thing I promise; you will learn a lot about Finland and a bit about me too. The good thing is, that over the months I have noticed that you bloggers are very energetic and happy people, so please help me to make these weeks memorable.
By the way our national anthem is called “Our land.” What is your national anthem and are you yourself a good singer? Maybe you also sing while taking a shower!

Hello Leila. Nice to read you. I'm sure you have very interesting stories to tell us. Finland sounds to me as a very exotic and misterious land, with tons of ice, long long winter nigths, huge pine forest and thousends bottles of vodka as well. Well chilean national anthem doesn't have a name, (at least I don't know it and some friends I asked about it agreed with me). It starts this way "Puro Chile es tu cielo azulado..." that means somethig like "Chile your sky is so pure and blue..." I like to sing, unfortunately people doesn't like to listen to me(Ups). Till next

Dear Leila, First of all, welcome to blog as a student blogger. I excited to know about Finland and its culture. I like to suggest you that do not doubt about your blog. Certainly it will be interesting and we can learn together with our teacher much more and you will succeed to lead learning process in better way.
Hi Leila!!! It´s so nice hear form you Leila again :-). I´m sure we´re going to have a great time together, besides, I´m really curious to know more about you and about your country. Our anthem is 'Hino Nacional Brasileiro'( National Brazilian Anthem), and talks about the natural beauty of the country and the proud of being Brazilian. Now I´m far to be a good singer, but I love to sing while I´m taking shower. It´s so relaxing :-). All the best, see you soon, Ana Paula.

Hi Leila :-) Reading your first blog I had a feeling that you lack self-confidence but I'm absolutely sure that when you read our comments you'll gain more confidence. I myself will be very hapy to read about Finland and about you. If you want to soud interesting write what you feel, not what you think is right to write. You said you live in Northern Finland, where there is a lot of clean space for nature lovers. Don't you live somewhere near Korvatunturi Mountain, where Santa Claus is though to live? Or maybe you happen to meet him? I wish you all the best and I'm looking forward to your blogs.
G'day Leila and welcome! It will be a great pleasure to have you as this month's blogger. In answer your question about singing, I can sing really well. How about you? Our national anthem is in persian language, the language spoken in Pakistan is Urdu, though. It will be interesting plus exciting to know about Finland over the next month. Naheed
Hi Leila! "Mameli's Hymn" is the Italian national anthem. Yes, I sing in the shower, but I am not a good singer.LoL Prepositions are one of my weak points too. I cannot wait to get to know your country. Cheers!
Welcome to this blog. I am not a good singer but sometimes I try to sing. I do it currently in church. I am interested in your country because these days in Uruguay there is a new cellulose plant from Botnia company and a lot of controversy about it, our neighbours from Argentina think it will contaminate the Uruguay river and the conflict has been long. Tell us more about you, Regards
Hello Leila. It's the first time I don't use a nickname on the board, but my real name. At the outset, I thought that you were lucky to be among the great circle of the student bloggers, but when I read your first blog, I immediately saw that you really deserve this privilege. I'm dreaming of the day I would reach the proficiency level in English and would be able to take a chance to be among this elite. Through your blog, I'm looking forward to learning English and especially knowing many things about you and your country. Your name sound Arabian as we have many ladies named Leila in Morocco and in other Arabian countries. I keep my fingers crossed for you and pray that you'll succeed in your your mission. Mansour
I am happy to be able to hear about you and your country. I just think, it might be so cold in winter in your place. And I heard from someone that people in Finland play soccor game at night, WITHOUT electric light, UNDER the sun. Am I right? Korean national anthem is 'Love of our country'. We sing Korean national anthem more in formal occasion. Thanks.
Hi Leila, It's a great shot of the first blog for a new blogger, very impressed.Oulu is a city by the Gulf of Bothnia as I read the Wikipedia. For me, it's been a couple of months not to surf and enjoy the BBC English learning blog, nice to back here take care and have nice days.
Hello Leila! Welcome! I'm sure that you are going to be an excellent blogger because your first post was lovely! Tell us about you, about life in Finland, customs, interesting places. As regards our National Anthem, it doesn't have any special name, just "Himno Nacional" (the spanish translation). It has a long instrumental introduction. That is why in International Sports Championships, the introduction and the first verses are avoided an only the chorus is sung. I love singing, but I'm terrible at it. Imagine that my own children whenever I start singing ask me to stop!! Anyway I've bought a microphone that I connect to the hi-fi and sing loudly. I wish I could sing better for the good of my family and neighbours!! Have a nice day! Bye!
Hello Leila! Well, it's a long Monday for everyone who participates in the workforce, except those having a day off. Monday is a starting point to start off a week and pressure may be less stressful towards to the end of the week otherwise it turns to a long hard week! I believe that BBC student blogging site lays down a practical place where everyone is able to join in. We bloggers set the same goal to improve our English by all means in the assistance of teacher guidance, don't we? Me too having the same faults to use grammar and organize my thought when I deal with writing. The more the practice is needed, we'll be getting more proficient I believe. Through this site, I hope to get a wonderful share about culture, values, yourself or even odd things occuring in Finland and other regions from parcipated bloggers as well. You sound like a good singer. Have you ever joined in an organized singing contest? Singing karaoke is a well-known social activity in Vietnam right now. Birthday, anniversary, or any celebration is a perfect excuse to exchange "talent" by going to karaoke room. Karaoke indeed is the tip of Vietnamese tongue to party any social activity presently. No wonder why it's taking place so? Im always kidding that it then might make people more smarter. No, it's merely a fun. Till next time.
Hi Leila, your first entrance itself is an interesting one. why do you say that it won't be much interesting ond. We are all here to make yours is much interested one. Tell us more about your family, friends, job and Findland. Do you know who wrote India's national anthem "Jana Hana Mana". if you want to tell me whether I am good singer watch my comment on Rachel today.
Leila,Leila, Leila la..isn´t it a song? If I ever knew to sing I would perform now for welcoming you on the November blog, really! Yesterday ,on a walk in the most beautiful sunny autumn day I was tinking about the mystery in which Rachel left us. A new blogger? may it be Antonio from Belgium, Jill Huang from Beijing and yes, your thousand lakes country occured me for a minute, too, as the contrast to hill-forest place where I was walking. Now, you smile from the page to us pretily and as I´ve known you from comments we are to have an interesting month. Please write as much as you can about your family, work and many travel anventures you´ve mantioned befor. I wait impatiently to know everything!

Hello Leila, welcome and thanks for a great first post. It was so good, in fact, that your post and all these comments have inspired us here in the office. In December, we are going to have some fun (hopefully) activities on the website. One thing will be to ask people to send in recordings of themselves singing festive songs in English!! You could record yourself in the shower, on the street or with friends :-0 Thanks for the idea and look out for our Christmas special at the beginning of December. Paul
Hello Leila, hope you are doing well. Its really nice to have you with us for next couple of weeks. I am all ears to know about you & your country. You asked about national anthem, ours is "Qaumi Tarana" which exactly means "National Anthem". It is in Persian as Miss Naheed mentioned earlier. Here is its traslation: "Blessed be the sacred land - Happy be the bounteous realm Symbol of high resolve - Land of Pakistan Blessed be thou citadel of faith The order of the sacred land is the Might of the brotherhood of the people May the nation, the country & the state Shine in glory everlasting Blessed be the goal of our ambition This flag of crescent and the star - Leads the way to progress & perfection Interpreter of our present - Inspiration of our future Symbol of the Almighty’s protection. Hope you like it. Could you please write your National Anthem for us. Au revoir
Hello Leila, i like your name! Your first blog is very good. Such as Carolina told us, our Anthem is called "Himno Nacional Argentino" and her description about International Sports is OK. Thanks Carolina! I would like singing well, but i only sing hidden and for this i never know how i sing!! I love traveling and on my last trip i went to Ushuaia by car. I think that the live and nature of Ushuaia must be similar to the live and nature in Finland!! Bye.
Hi Leila! As Ana Paula said our anthem is Hino Nacional Brasileiro( National Brazilian Anthem =p I'm not a good singer!lol See ya! Kisses
