Vietnamese food @_@
Dear Jo and all friends,
I am very interested in reading your entry and comments. That is really good food for me after a tired working day. Jo, thank you so much for your support in my English. Actually, I am thinking of studying for a Master's in the UK. I really want to find a scholarship so that I can go there to study soon. Because I enjoy working in banking industry very much, so I want to study for a Master's in Banking and Finance. Could anyone help me to find some information about good scholarships in UK? I know most of the scholarships require at least 2 years of experience. Therefore I still try my best to study and work hard to gain more experience so that I can make my dream come true soon. Anyway, I just want to study as soon as possible.
To all friends, thank you again for keep reading my entry. As usual, some of my replies to your comments now:
@Sara: I enjoy reading your comment so much, so keep writing to me as long as you can ^_^.
@Pauline&Ahmed: Thank you so much for showing me my mistakes. I'll try to correct them all and brush up my English.
@Ana Paula: You are so great for reading all of my entries and keep encouraging me. I really want to know more about u :-P
@Douglas Santos&Stevie Boy: In Vietnam now there are more and more people studying Chinese because Chinese is our neighbour country, and there are more and more Chinese companies invest in Vietnam. It's not very diffcult to study, except from the complicated writing.
@Seomon: Thanks for such beautiful words about me!
@Anne: Yes, he is also very interested in keeping contact. He also told me that when he came back to Vietnam last time, he tried to find us according to the telephone numbers we gave him, but he couldn't get in touch with any of us. He still remembered me as the youngest student in the class, but I guess he can't remember my face :-)
@Adek: Let's wait for another chance to meet another Vietnamese girl ^_^
@Mauricio: I'll tell him soon about this blog as a gift for him :)
@Wisarut: I can write Chinese and I am also interested in calligraphy. But I haven't written Chinese for nearly one year, and I forget a lot.
@Van, Mai, Mai Anh: Great to hear from Vietnamese friends here.
@All: Thanks once more for your nice comments and looking forward to read more and more....
And now, another part, actually the main part of today's entry... I'll tell you something about Vietnamese food. Vietnam has the S shape and the country is divided into 3 main parts: The North, the Middle and the South. And each area has its own traditional food and the taste is not the same. In the North we prefer to eat food with little sugar and salt, but Southern people prefer to eat sweet food, nearly all kinds of food have sweet taste. I was born in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam which locates in the North. And Hanoi has so many great kinds of food for you to try.
I like to eat rice noodle very much, and there are so many dishes made from rice noodle. First one is Bun Cha (Rice noodle and Grilled meat):

The pork meat to make "Bun Cha" and the sauce are very important. You eat noodle, meat and raw vegetables together... This is my favourite dish!!!
The second one I'd like to introduce is "Pho", another kind of noodle, eat together with beef, chicken meat, egg...

We often eat "Pho" in breakfast. And in Vietnam, there are even a few people who can't start a day without eating one bowl of "Pho" in breakfast :-). Have any of you ever heard of "Pho 24" - very famous brand of Pho under the structure of franchising shop.
La Vong Fish is also very famous, it is one of the traditional food of Hanoi. Every tourist come here need to try La Vong Fish. It's a kind of roasted fished eat with rice noodle ^_^ and shrimp sause (this has very strong smell but many peole like it).

The next one is the traditional food which we eat on New Year only, it's "Chung Cake". The cake is made of rice, pork and green peas.

When New Year nearly comes, we often prepare and cook these cakes together, as it takes the whole day to wrap and boil these cakes. Many Vietnames who are abroad usually miss the taste of this kind of cake so much, especially when they have to greet the New Year in another country without family and the atmosphere of New Year holiday in Vietnam.
The last but not least that I want to introduce to you is "Noodle Roll"

This is fried beef and raw vegetables wrapped by rice noodle. This is the new dish in Vietnam for about 6,7 years recently but many people like it very much because it is easy to make and suits most people's taste.
Haizzz, it must take me days and days to talk about Vietnamese food. Actually I don't know to choose which one to introduce to you. You know, each country has their own kinds of food... and I feel so difficult to find the words that can express my ideas to tell you how delicious they are!!! You'd better take a trip to Vietnam, and I will be a tour guide to show you around and try every kind of food here ^_^
Hope you will enjoy my entry today. And now, it's time for sleeping... Zzzzzzzz
G9 to you all!
Ha

Hi Ha! Yummy! Everything looks delicious. The dishes above have lots of vegetables. Hmm... I love vegetables, especially brocolli :-). I´ve just finished my lunch Ha. Oh... Talking about lunch it´s time to go back to work. Ah! As the weekend is coming, could you tell us, how you like to spend it? Best wishes, Ana Paula.
Hello Ha. When I read your last entry it was close the luch time here, and I was hungry, son you can imagine the effect that produce me to see all those exotic (for me) foods. In particular, Pho look really yummi, specially in the cold winter days we are having here. So I started to look for a spoon and a fork to try a little bit from the computer screen. I want to ask yo something about languages. I know Vietnam was in the past century a french colony, and then, I believed all the educated vietmanese, like you, spoke french, don't they? Thank you and have fun.
Hi Ha!It was nice to read about Vietnamese food. I also like the food which tastes sweet a bit. I come from a Gujarati family and sugar happens to be the main ingredient of Gujarati cooking. I have heard that fish sauce and noodles are the main ingredients in almost all Vietnamese cooking, is that true? It was quite informative to know that all the three parts of Vietnam have their own delicacy in food.
Hi, Ha! I did enjoy reading your blog and knowing about the vietnamese food =) I've never tried any of the dishes you mentioned before but I have to admit that La Vong Fish has attracted my attention. So, if I ever go to Hanoi I'll take it into account. Hope you can get a scholarship, soon. Kisses!
Hi Ha! today's your blog really makes me miss Vietnamese authentic food. As I wrote down before, in the US the taste of Vietnamese food which is served in Vietnamese restaurant is usually modified to American sweet taste or Chinese spicy taste. In my experiences, in Ho Chi Minh taste is a little bit saltier than in Hanoi and sometime there are hot spicy taste foods. Am I right? What I was amazed by Vitnamese food culture is a huge number of restaurants in which people feel free to eat anytime. I think that eating at restaurant is much better than at home in terms of price and saving cooking time.
You blog has given a vivid description of food, culture in Vietnam. Vietnamese food is also very popular in Shanghai, and I like the noodle roll, Bun Cha very much:)
Yum! I know the Noodle Roll. I have seen it here. People modify it with all kinds of meat and vegetables. It comes with some sauce. What about Papaya in Vietnamese cuisine? I remember a movie scene about a Vietnamese girl using a green papaya to make some salad-liked food. Vietnam also produce a lot of fruit. Tell us some fruits in Vietnam. When is Vietnamese New Year? I know Chinese have their own New Year Day. What do you do in New Year holiday? Sorry for throwing you so much questions. I just want to know more about Vietnam. Thank you!
Hi Ha, nice meeting you! I really like reading your blogs. Lalala!!! you makes me feel a bit peckish. Wow, I love all of them, especially "pho". It sounds like not fair that "Bun bo hue" wasn't introduced. Just kidding! Now, I am off for a big bowl of Pho 24 (though it's a little expensive.) Best wishes,
Hello Ha, First of all i want to say that you are a very slim girl like me but you are looking very nice.Ha i don't eat non.vege. I'm totally vege. but thank you for giving the knowledge about Vietnamese food. Its looking good but i think non-vege is not good for health at the time killing those animals is also not good:)I think we all should stop eating non-vege and should prefer vegetarian food.I think you will understand me :) I also want to say that your English is also very good :) Best regards to vietnam Parul
Hi Ha, it is so nice to see your blog here. I also want to brush up my english too, hope your interesting story or your life could bring us more funny and interested. Your posted food 'Chung Cake' is similar to our Chinese 'chung' which made of pork, rice and green beans, but this food is not for our new year greeting, it is for our traditional festival in May. Did you ever hear the story about 'chung ' when you were learning Chinese?
Hi, Ha, I like Vietnamese food, too. Esepcially one food calls " spring roll" I think it is fried and with some vegetable like mint when you eat it. I also knew there is food like rare duck egg. I can't try it. I thinkmost of Vietnamese like it. I like your blog, Cheerio. Have a nice weekend. Rachel
Hello Ha, Your description and the photos of meals you've presented in this blog have really made my mouth water with a certain feeling of hot spices.I then decided to ask you about the type of spices you use in the preparation of meals. Are they hot or sweet? I know that Asian people usually eat a lot of rice. I'd like to know which other categories of food they eat, besides rice, vegetables, fruit and meat. I mean grains such as wheat, corn, barley, etc...Good luck and best wishes. Ahmed ELMANSOUR, Casablanca - Morocco.
Hi Ha :-) I think that all people who are abroad always miss the food they have in their country. You say you have traditional food you eat at New Year. I reckon that New Year is a very important holiday in Vietnam. In Poland, at least in the part I live, we don't celebtrate New Year so there's no traditional food eaten on the day. We celebrate the New Year's Eve (or to be precise, the night from December 31 to January 1) and we eat the food we just like. I've never had an opportunity to taste Vietnamese cuisine but looking at your pictures I'm absolutelu sure it's very tasty. Best wishes, Adek P.S. I don't know what G9 is.
Like finding your long lost teacher through internet you will find sources to persue your Masters' degeree through internet. Good luck. your photograghs displayed food items looks very delicious. i could understand variety of noodles. Some how i don't like noodles. But children are very much fond of noodles in our country. Why chinese and your people very much like noodles? I enjoyed to see the way your people eat the needles using sticks and forks in the films. Most of our people using hand to eat. Is it not the good manner of eating? We don't use spoons, fork, knife etc.
Hi Ha, Your blog today got my mouth watering. Even though I had never heard or seen any of those dishes you described. I could see that they are all very well presented. Are they usually made this way at home or just in restaurants. What about that rice noodle you mentioned? Is it pasta made of rice? I'd never heard of it. I love rice. I guess I would like this rice noodle. Thank you Ha for your nice blog. See you around. Bye
Makes me so hungry!! ever tasted english "Pot Noodles"?
How was your day ? Ha. I prefer your description in Vietnamese food too much . It make me mout-watering but there are have many differences in many point of views. That is to say that the ingredient of food are made up of noodle in Vietnamese food but in Thai food are not at all. In my point of view, I love Pho as the breakfast. I find that it is similarity in Thai noodle soup. It is compose of pork, vegetable, and seasoning. And I observe that Vietnamese food are usually served with a large number of vegetables. I usually consume Vietnamese food in many restaurants in Thailand. It is delicious. One reciept is called Namnung. Have you ever heard it before ? Where is the original of this food ? Keep me pose.I accept I totally love it. Yumm!! Better luck next time.
Did you cook all the food on the pictures by yourself?:D It looks delicious! Can you tell me what vegetables are in the photo of "Bun Cha"? Is it rau muong? :>
Hi Ha, It's my first comment in your blog, I'm afraid about writing in english because I don't pratice it so much, but today I'm full of courage end so I'm writing. Your comment about viatnamese food was delicious. It's very interesting to know about your country. Please forgive my mistakes. I desire a good weekend for you. bye
Ha, Check out the "Shell Centenary Scholarship Fund". They have good scholarships for many top universities in England and the Netherlands. Good Luck!
Hi..Ha...your articles are worth reading...especially the one which narrated the story of you meeting your English teacher...A heart-touching one indeed...I started learning English two years ago...and still can't be able to write or speak good english..your blog is really a helping one for me...keep writing.... bye...
Dear Ha, The food which you described seems to be very tasty!!! I've sometimes had Chineese and Japanese food (because we have some Chineese and Japanese restaurants here in Naples), but I've never had Vitnamese food. I prefer Chineese food to Japanese one, and the meals you described seem to be similar to some Chinese dishes! It'd be great if I could taste them! Could you blog one or two recipes? Many many thanks.
Yep.. Pho or the noodle soup is also one of my favourite food.. And Pho 24 is one of the famous branch. However, as I have know, spring roll is one of Vietnamese special food and many people like it. When I went for a trip in Singapore, I was really impressed when many foreign friends of mine like this dish very much. Futhurmore, it is also very easy to make, so many Vietnamese people choose it to introduce about Vietnamese food with their friends around the world.
Dear Ha, Your blog about Vietnamese food have really made feel desperate for a Bun Cha. Unfortunately in the area where I live there are no Vietnamese restaurant and neither Vietnamese shops where to buy things to prepare your delicious (at least by looking at them) dishes. Vietnamese food start to capture my attention because last year on Italian MTV, they broadcast a German tv-series whose main characters used to meet in a Vietnamese restaurant and the chef use to give extremely wise advices to his friends. Next time I will visit a city in Europe I will look for a Vietnamese restaurant. Could you tell me which is a proper hour during the day to have a Vietnamese meal? Best wishes Lana
Hi, Ha. Your blog is very impressive. I like eating Hanoi's dishes so much such as : Bun Cha; Bun Oc and a unlackable one is Pho. They're so great. And we're all proud of these Vietnamese dishes forward the oversea friends, right? Hope you have nice blogs here. Thanks!!
Hello Ha!! I'm glad to meet you! I think you're very lucky to be able to speak 3 languages, because I think it's something usefull to travel or to look for a job, and for some people, like me for example, that's too an hobby, a passion. So, congratulations for you good English (better as mine), it doesn't really need to be improved, does it? ;) and good luck for the next.
Excelent information. Best wishes.0
