Hello there,
Today, I would like to try translating a Chinese parable into English, and to try making it short. It's a way of practicing writing.
Once upon a time, there was an emperor who liked to ask questions all the time. One day, he strolled along the beach of the Yangtze River, and there were hundreds of ships passing through. Then, he asked a monk who was just besides him:
The emperor asked’ How many ships are there sailing the river daily?’
The monk replied:” Two”
The emperor surprised:’ Only two?'
The monk answered with ease:" Yes, only two, there are two kinds of ships sailing all the time, one ship which name is Power, the other one is Money."
Next time, when I meet teacher Alex in London(I desire to be there), if teacher Alex asks me How Many cars pass through Oxford street in a day, I can answer the question easily, the answer is “ Two”.
The most powerful person in Taiwan is the president which term is 4 years. Why I tell you this, because today is the day of inauguration of the President of Taiwan, we’ll choice a new one in March of next year who will be in his position on May 20, 2008.
The name of the president of Taiwan is…….. Oh, what is his name? It is not the point, what he has done is the point. Therefore, it’s unnecessary to publish his name here.
