To make a right step
Hello everybody!
Thanks for your opinions! I have read all of them. Shure we could understand each other if say "never mind". I use that phrase if somebody has a difficult and I want to support a person. And when I say "never mind" I mean a situation will change and everything should be OK. So, my dear friends do not worry and be happy!:)
I have got a question about 2 new meanings. There are phrases " what's up" and "What a space cadet". I can answer about "what's up". It means - what has happened? Does somebody know about second phrase? I have never heard about that meaning. Might be interesting to use in practice.
Today I worked at the exhibition "Education and career". Which takes place in Moscow. The majority aim is to make a good advertising for new coming entrants. For young people who has a question "what to do for a living".
A big exhibition's hall is divided in two parts. First with stands of Russian Universities and second with stands of foreign Colleges and language schools from Canada, Germany, the UK, Malta. Moscow University of Design made a fashion show. Girls dressing up in fantastic dresses which they made by themselves at University. It is cool! A good example for new coming entrants. What could they do for pleasure and business. I was pretty surprised saw a couple of men. They are models. Usually girls prefer a job of models. But looks good! University of Art showed pictures of their students on the stand. They could be Picasso or Shishkin in the future. A good start!
If I were an entrant I use a chance to see my future with this job. Some times we do our choice just because of fashion. It works for everything. For the future profession, cars, food, life style and so on. In fact not all trendy things are acceptable for everyone. I remember my mum advice. She wanted I were a bookkeeper. It was a popular profession when I thought about my future. People who are good on this field have a well off life's level. But the job is not for me. Now I glad I am not a bookkeeper :).
So, wish you made a right step and have chosen a specialization of your life!
With best wishes,
Lidia
PS. And do not afraid do mistakes in English!! Do it as often as you can!
It is a good way to YOUR English and because of we met here!

Hi, Lidia! You let me down...I disagree with you!!! "PS. And do not afraid do mistakes in English!! Do it as often as you can!" It is okay to make mistakes while you are learning a foreign language, but every should try to avoid them!!! Hey, you seem not to read Samantha's notes FOR YOU at all!!! Well, I may sound rude...But how could you write " grammatic technics" after you were shown the right spelling and usage of this word? It is techniques, and there's no such a word like "grammatic" , it is grammatical as an adjective or a grammar as a noun. In your phrase " the majority aim " you should use the noun "major" which will mean an adjective before another noun "aim". Lidia, you make spelling mistakes in your every post. You are proud of them, are not you? I think you may not know how to spell Fahrenheit correct, but it's shame on you to spell sure as "shure". It's a big responsibility to blog here. You MUST try avoiding SIMPLE mistakes! Maybe it will help you... Write your post in Word first, use an option "check Grammar&Style". Please do not be angry with me. I am very glad to hear about your taking part in this exhibition. Does it take place at " Гостиный двор". My daughter has heard an ads on the radio. She wants to visit it. That exhibition, she heard about takes place where I said in Russian and lasts until 15th March. Well, I am ashamed to admit that I don't know where it is located. Domodedovo is near to Moscow but I have been living here not for long. Could you please tell me how we can get there? Thanks in advance and I hope you work hard at your English and you are getting better.
Hello Lidia , it's nice from you to keep us up to date , sometimes I have in mind an idea about one can call a blogger as a correspondent because both of them slightly have the same job . There are a lot of things could play a part to change our life , some moments or decision can change our life once and for all , and to be honest it was a big problem for me to choose my specialization because I couldn't figure out what the specialization I like the most , all were the same for me , the most important thing that was to get any good certificate , at the moment I'm still studying and I'm not sure whether I chose the right or the wrong direction of my life but what I'm sure that I'm lucky to have opportunity to study where there are a lot of people around the world don't have this opportunity as well . Lidia make sure that anybody of us does mistakes at writing or speaking English, and I think you now are lucky to have such a great teacher to tell you where your mistakes are when we're just writing without knowing our mistakes , and always remember the more you learn, the more you see how little you know . Best wishes ,
Dear Lidia, it could be a great pleasure to read your blog if there weren't so many mistakes in your written English!!! Please read Samantha's comments carefully and do all your best to follow them. You make up sentences thinking Russian (and it is quite natural as you are a Russain!) but please keep in mind that you are writing English! Sorry if I am not very tolerant, I can't be as that number of mistakes irritates me and not only me I am sure. I am an English teacher and this tells you something I hope. Never mind! Improve your English!
Hi Lidia! Where did you hear this phrase?(What a space cadet). I´ve never heard it before. I hope one of our friends can helps us, because I´m curious about the meaning of this phrase too. The exhibition that you worked seemed very interesting. Did you have the chance to practice your English? See you tomorrow. Best wihses, Ana Paula.
Dear Lidia,I think you make the right step of learning English. For me,i donnot know have i made the right step in my way of studying, which is full of frustrations, especially now.I think i have been used to the ups and dowms in life.I gained my associate last June, then quit college ,got a unsteady job, quit job and went back home. Now i still stuck at home by doing nothing to live on.Hehe, funny and interesting!Maybe this midsummer i will get ready to attend Beijing Foreign Language University for year and a half, which might be my last chance to receive higher education i guess.I am not sure about my future, but i believe i make the right step for myself.Take Care!!
Hello Lidia, you really pick my attention with the phrase "What a space cadet" which I never heard before. Fortunatelly I found the definition in online dictionary, and it applies for a person who doesn't pay attention to what happens around her/him, or seems to be in her/his own world. Or somebody who is under drug effect. So you were in an very interesting show last weekend. Unfortunately I'm not a teacher, but I love teaching world! I agree with you about trends in professions, here most of young people wants to become lawyer, but then there isn't enough place for everyone. Some years ago I had to make a pause in my profession and now I want to restart my career. Saddly I find it too discouraging, so I think if I was young again, I'll never choose the same profession. That's something I didn't mind when began studying, I mean, what about having to take a break in the career? Could it be easy to start again? e.g. when choosing to be a stay at home mom for a while. And for making mistakes, I had very funny experiencies. Happily they happen involving very nice people so nobody was offended. Nobody minded it, as the topic of your blog. take care
Hey, Lidia. Nice to read your blog. What a space cadet. What's the meaning. I'm confussed. Can you tell me? Looking forward. Best wishes.
Hi Lidia, Here is the definition, I've found in a dictionnary on the web : "space cadet [countable] informal: someone who forgets things, does not pay attention, and often behaves strangely" I don't know if it's an expression often used. Bye.
Hello from BBC Learning English. If you want to be our blogger in April then visit the blogging competition page to find out how to enter. The competition closes on 21 March. Good luck. I would also like to answer a question from Adriana in Brazil. Adriana wanted to know if my photo in the 'Meet the Team' page was taken in a helicopter. Well... well done, yes it was. I was visiting a friend in the USA and we were just about to fly over the Grand Canyon - sadly I wasn't the pilot but it was still a brilliant experience. Bye.
Good evening, Lidia. I like to read your blogs and I can understand you very well. We all are learning english together. I have already made many mistakes here and later I have seen it was wrong. One day I wrote alcohol and combustible ( because we use similar words in our language to describe them) in the Juliette's blog. After that, I realised people use the word "ethanol" and "fuel". I understand your mother. I didn't have one near me but my father was in the same position giving me advices. He teachs financial mathmatics and statistics at the university...so I was supposed to be an engineer or an architect because he thought I had the ability or maybe because it was his own dream. In spite of being good in this area I couldn't imagine myself working only with numbers. Therefore when I went to my uncle's house in a holliday and saw him working in his profession, I realised that it was what I would like to do in life. It was a scandal for my teachers and my father and it was a problem for me at home to choose my own career. On the contrary, for my little son, I support him in everything he wants. However sometimes I'd like to make him change his mind. He wants to be in a formula one world championship in the future. I'd like to support his dream but it's an expensive sport here. Sometimes he wants to be the president, a detective, etc...he has still a long way. Now Lidia, I'd like to say some words to Paul, with your permission. Paul, thank you for your answer. I think the Grand Canyon must be amazing. Have you already seen what they are building there? I also want to apologize because I have written a part of the music in my comment. I wanted to illustrate what I was talking about. For this reason, I was searching here today about the new copyright legislation in UK to understand the law in itself and its changes but I'm lost and confused. I thought that because I was an english student and had non commercial purpose I could do that but after reading the law I think I had to have a permission of the holder of the copyright. Summarizing, I think that Cat Stevens has changed his religion and name, how could I look for him and get his permission...so it's better to say: "never mind". All the best for you all.
Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
