My experience in learning English
Hello my lovely blog's friends,
Hope you are well and glad of coming weekend!
Today I would like to discover you my experience in learning English.
The first knowledge I got at high school when was a child and then continued learning at the University. English course took just 2 years at University and I had to learn English with some private teachers and language schools in Moscow. Here are working a lot of Russian teachers who knows English well and may teach students. They have a special education and have years of practice. But after 1-2 teachers I decided to try an native English speaking teacher. I found schooI in Moscow where taught teachers from the UK, the USA and Canada. I was very happy with my first English speaking teacher. He was from the USA and had a talent to teach language. He made interesting, informative and fun lessons. So, we had a very good group of students there. After a while (about 2-3 months) the teacher was changed on another teacher because a special methodology. Schools does changes of teachers every 8-12 weeks for students practice. It means students should understand not the only one English speaking person. You must to have experience to speak and to understand English language at all. You know that each country and often regions in one country have different language accent and some times people from one region can't understand people from another. By the way both regions speak English. So with the new teacher we lost our interest to learn English because she taught very boring and was pretty strict to adults people as we were. The last 2-3 years my private teacher was a girl who is Russian but used to live in the USA for a long time. So she has a very good level of English and is good in teaching.
The greatest experience I got last year when took English Course in Ireland for 8 weeks. It was fantastic! No one Russian at school. I lived in one nice & friendly family near the city center. International classes. There were students from Italy, Brazil, North Korea, China, Germany, Spain, Israel, France, Chech Republic.I was lucky and met very professional teachers with a good sense of humor. After lessons in the morning we had cultural programme and went to the historical places. It was supported by a woman who is an professional gide and knows Irish history very well. So, I spent a whole time spoke in English. The first two weeks were difficult for me. All tenses and conditions mixed in me heard :) and I feel like a baby. Understood a lot but couldn't speak right...:) I was very tired every day and went to bed at about 9 pm. After 3 weeks I started be more quieted and confident myself. After day's programme we went to the cinema or to the pub or to the disco. And speak, speak, speak. Made mistakes and understood that it was a mistake after a while. That is getting of some new experience! Never forget it!
I love to remember how my Irish adventure was because sure it was a great time in my life!
I improved my English I try do not forget my practice. Speak English at work and send you my reports every day with pleasure!:)
Thanks for your answers! I red all of them!
Have a great weekend!
With best wishes,
Lidia

While I was reading your blog, I could relate to you cause my experience in learning English was quite similar. I believe that persistance is crucial in this NEVER-ENDING learning process. We have to keep going(tha's one of the reasons why I'm here)!I also had nice native teachers. I think they are better because they force you to speak in English, and they are the language. It seems more meaninful, though sometimes you feel so frustrated and mute at their fluency! Do you know what I mean?I also went to England to study on two occasions(round-the-clock is always so more effective) and was lucky to have really warm host families.I loved the food, as well-put on 5 kilos in 4 weeks. It was the first time I had fresh cod in my life!Ah and there I had my first attempt at scrabble! I also loved the weather. Cold for a change is such a relief! It's great to hear that you studied in Ireland.I always wanted to visit and study there! It would be great if you could give me the name and place of your school there. As it's been 4 years since I last went to England,I've been planning to go there soon. And people say Ireland is cheaper because of the Euro. Thanks for your blog it's nice to know that we, as language learners and world citizens, have so much in common.Have a nice sunny weekend.:) Cheerio,

Hi..My sassy girl..<< LIDA >> English language is used as a second landuage in Thailand. Normally,we learn English subject in sort of children to adult in their school or university. On the contrary, English language has a major role much more when we have to contract with another people, and study in a higher education. Recently years, groups of tour are travelling in my country. We meet people from other nationalities. Namely Russia, England ,US,China,Japan and so forth. Frankly,I have learnt English language for a long time but it does not develope. I face many problems when I am using as in everyday. Translating into Thai must be first.Probably I several confuse and grumpy in writing and reading. A complex structure may also be hard to understand. My sister said we should regular use and thought of English. Similarly, we are native speakers. Today I am learning English from BBC,VOA,CNN ,and from time to time taking English course at California Language Center in my University .All of teachers who are too indulgent come from all over the world as using English teaching. It is time to have a lunch once I will stop my writing. <Do not forget to drop me a line> <<< Better luck next time >>>
hello, it sounds like you had much experience learning english. I think today has changed the way you can learn. I live in china and am a student here. Now we can watch so many dvd's of tv shows with native speakers. Even more recently we can listen to podcasts for learning english which are like online language learning radio shows. They help so much i find. My favourite shows are the ones here on bbc. Also for american slang, the best one I've seen is at www.china232.com . they have a free study guide too and it is funny. other ones are also ok, do you know any other fun ones?
Hello Lidia , you are doing very well , your reports are good and make us pay attention to know more about you . It seems to me you are used to spending your time in learning English and now It has become obvious to me why you know English language very well , just like you I can't exactly express what I have in mind . A lot of people who want to learn any language they always ask how can we learn this language as soon as possible ? and the answer is practice just practise , practise and practice so DON'T stop practicing English if you don't want to lose it . All the best ,
Hi Lidia, your learning English experience is very amazing. I'm so glad to know that. Please share more with us!
Hi, I read your experience of learning english & the things you mentioned were marvalous. I must say you have improved a lot. As far as speaking english is concerned, the main area where one should focus is speaking exercise. Speaking makes a man perfect here.. Thanks Anish Sharma
Nice to see lots of people who interested in English language. I do love learning languages and seeing people. I believe, we have something in common, haven't we?. That's why we are here. Hope to talk to all of you again. I was wondering if we would help each other correcting the messages. Bye and see you. ^^
Learning a language can be a painful experience. It means that you have to do a lot of listening, reading, talking and homework too. But learning our mother tongue was not that painful. It was really simple. We just listen to family members to pick up the language and after a two-year "silent period", we can start talking though not in an adequate way. The difference between acquiring our mother tongue and learning a new language is that the former is subconscious while the latter is conscious. This is the key issue to learning any new language. There are some students who spend 10 academic years learning English as a subject in the curriculum, but they never do well. On the other hand, some students have lived in Britain just for one year, and when they are back, they can communicate effectively in English. Why is that? The answer to this question is really simple: the more exposure to English one has, the better one will be. How can we benefit from this? We have to do a lot of listening and reading. These are the receptive skills that we should work on right from the very beginning if we want to learn a new language. Don't ever care about producing the language at an early stage. The more you listen and read, the easier your task in producing the language will be. We should go through the "silent period" which a very natural process in language acquisition. After some time, we can start using the language, not a particular language, but any kind of language we know to express our ideas. It is no wonder that we will make a lot of mistakes at the beginning. My piece of advice that I hope you act upon is the following: "We learn through our mistakes." OR "He who does not make mistakes doesn't learn anything!" So please make mistakes!!!!!!! Now, mistakes entail that we have some language problems. It also entails that we should find some ways to overcome them. One way of doing so is to maximize our exposure to the target language. We will get rid of these mistakes when we listen and read more. The process of fixing our language problems should be a subconscious one. This is why I advise teachers to adopt a gentle correction with their students because making mistakes is nothing but merely a part of the learning process.Instead of blotting your students paper with red, jut give him/her a book to read. It just work this way guys, the more input we get, the better output we will be able to produce.Thank you for reading my reply. I hope I have been helpful. Ciao!!!!!
I had a similar experiense to yours in Ireland. During my stay in the US to study English, I often felt tired and solitude. My English was too far from good enough to enjoy talks with others. But as you said, this kind of experiense will be neccesary and essential to improve English!! Let's do not hesitate to speak speak speak!
English language becaume an international language in these days, we should learn it can interact with people from other nationality. Of course English language it seems so diffecult to learn it for non-native speakers like me. My native language is Arabic , and I have been studying in the university for 8 mounths , and at the beging of class Isware Ididnt understand what the teachers said but after two mounths of studying , practise, and helping from teachers our english languge was improved . Good willing in the future mu English language will be improved more and more if I do by this saying "Doing practise , more perfect". Have agreat day, Moniaty

Hai linda, while i was reading your post it gave joy to me. i felt all your experience are happened to me. so nice of you. bye
Hi Linda. I read your blog. Your experience was cool because you could learn many types of English in Ireland. I envy you.
Hi Linda. your school changes teacher every 8 weeks but, we thought it is not enough time to know eachother (teacher and students) and not good to learn english from who are not familiar with.
Hi Linda!!I think changing teachers in 8 weeks is good for learning several accents. In these days English is spoken by many people. it is important to learn different accents. If you learn many types of English, you will get friends over the world.
Hi Linda, we were enjoyed reading your writing. Your writing made us study harder! Thank you.
hi, Linda! we are also taking an English course and we agree ur idea. Teaching English by native speakers is one of the best ways but native speaker teachers should give us interesting lessons and also we should be interested in. Anyway, we are glad to hear that you had a good or finest experience in ur life. by for now!!!
Hi,linda!!!you have studied hard I admire you. I think it is good to learn English from many kinds of native speakers.
Hi,Lidia! I read this blog in the class. Wasn't it hard to learn English from sooooo many teachers??! I thought it is good opportunities to learn different kinds of English, but it's tooo tough!!
Hi Linda! It's great for you to have many teachers! I envy you. If you have many teachers, you can learn not only English skills but also their culture! So we think to changen teachers is a good system.
hi Lidia, you seem to have a lot of opportunities to learn english. we envey you!
In your history of learning English, we think the best thing was your experience in Ireland. Because, you had a good opportunity to listen to a lot of different English accents by getting to know the people all around the world. We have the same problem in Japan. Our English teacher are Japanese and we always believe that the English classes are MEANINGLESS!!! They only teach about grammar and their English pronounciation is TERRIBLE! So, lets keep learning English from good English speakers!
I think its not a good way to change teacher every two months, because the new teacher doesn't know the student's personality. however its also a good idea to change teachears frequently because we could learn English of different accent.
Hi,Linda. We enjoyed reading your blog. We are studying English at university. We think meeting a lot of teachers is very good experience. bye
Hi, linda!! We also learning English with native speakers almost everyday at university and it is really hard. We think that there are many kind of English, for example, Australian English or Indian English. So, sometimes it is hard to communicate each other. i hope your english will be better soon! bye bye
hi lidia, how are you? I wish I also have an opportunity in learning language like yours. I really wanted to improve my skills in english especially in speaking cause i really love to listen to people who can speak english very well. But I strive hard to make my english skills better or best as I can.Thank you for sharing us your experience..BYE. GODBLESS
