the 8-th of March

Hello my friends,
Thanks for your comments and new questions!

Today is the 8-th of March. International holiday and a very popular day in Russia - the woman's day. All men prepare flowers and presents for their mums, sisters, wifes, girlfriends, colleagues and other. Women are in a very good mood:) The day is warm and sunny today. That is a real present for me.
Thanks God. Actually, I do not like the 8-th of March so much. I like be a woman and feel like a woman every day. But it depends on a men :)
Hope my blog's female friends have just intellegent men around :)

Today is the day off because of this celebration and I have some guests at home. Spending time fun. Eat and tell interesting stories to each other.

It was a question about Russian food. Well, the Russian cousine is very tasty. People in Russia do not like microwave food at all. Except maybe pizza. And use microwave just to warm food (not sure it is a correct phrase "warm food").
Most families prefer fresh dishes every day.We like meat, fish, mushrooms, vegetables and love soups. Actually, I have difficulty to explain to you about Russian cousine because sure you should try to eat. It is impossible to write about a taste and a smell of "borsh" - Russian soup of red colour with meat and vegetables or "pelmeni" - a tiny piece of bread with meat inside. We do not have Russian fast food. This type of food came to us from Europe. These days you might watch fast food on the streets in Moscow. But shops offer traditionaly hot dogs or some sandwiches which are not type of Russian cousine. The last 14 years McDonald's is popular for children who like "happy meal" with toys and students who haven't a lot of free time for cooking.

About difference between England and Russian food (I saw a question about difference of our cousines).First of all as I wrote above we do not love microwave food.In the morning people eat bread, ham, cheese, yogurts, boiled or fry eggs. Some people prefer eat food like sausages. For lunch soups and hot dishes with garnish. And for dinner again hot dishes and variety of cold snacks.
People do not prefer all boiled food or only fried. We mix all types. But in Russia people like eat only tasty food. but on the other hand - tasty food is dangerous for women;)

These days many healthy diets are very popular here but this is another story...:) Russian people are friendly and hospitality. Usually people like invite friends home and cook for them home made dishes. It could be about 5-7 cold snacks, 2-3 for main course and 3-4 desserts.

So, we like eat but be in fit!!!:)

Hope you find my report interesting and will write again tomorrow!

With best wishes,
Lidia

Hi Lidia! I loved it your report! Actually I feel hungry :) when I´ve read it. Russian food seens to be very tasty. Unfortunately it´s a bit hard find out a Russian restaurant around here. I think healthy food can be very tasty, however changing feeding habits for some people are a very difficult task. I prefer slow food, made at home without any additive which is not good to health. I wish that March 8th was holiday here too, but it is not. Nowadays March 8th become one more comercial day. I hope soon hear more from you. Best wishes, Ana Paula.

hi Lidia, how interesting you have the day off for Woman's Day (is that for everybody or only women have the day off?). Here in Argentina greeting is usual, some people give flowers as present, and that's all. oh! you are right about Russian soups! Tasty and nutritious. They are great! Russian food express a very cozy environment. I hope you had a great day with company.

Hello Lidia, I think women in your place are lucky than us, because in Beijing, women only have half day off! Whatever, I feel glad when we women have half day off whilst men should work as ususl.

hi,Lidia! i am pleased to read your article and i got to know some common sense about Russian food culture from it.thank you!

Hello Lidia, This is Adi from India. I was very much impressed with the kind of foods you peaple enjoy to it. I just wanted to ask you whether their are any Indian cousine? In India we have chinese cousine,McDonalds and Pizzahuts, and fast foods of European origin.

Dear Lidia,I have been your reader for days, but this is my first time to comment and I couldn't help to do so,you are so nice and your blog is so attractive for me.I have the same feeling when you describe your situation in the winter of UK,I am a girl from North of China but I am stay in a Southern city now,my southern friends amazing about the low temperature of North, but I used to be good and have been healthy:).On the contrast,I couldn't accustomer myself to the humid, cold and always-rainny winter. I have been curious about Russia. From my historial book I know that China and Russia have had good relationship and Russian movie have been very popular in China. To tell the truth,my impression on Russia is marvelous, especially the huge pinaster forest, with thick white snow above, how beautiful and fantastic! Is that true? Another question is about the Russian people, man and woman. In my mind,Russian women is one of the most beautiful one in the world, with pretty facial form and finely chiseled features, and they are in unbelivable good shape, which made me jealous:)But what a pity they are definitely different when they are old:( What impressed me also is Russian man,it seems that most of them are lazy and love vodka and woman only, even the domestic voilence sometime, horrible! Lidia, what role Russian woman play in the society and family? How could you keep so slim?Is there any secret?I am very interesting in it:)

Hi Lidia deedee(elsder sister) March 8 is the "Womens Day". But in India it is not celebrated very much.(And it is not a holiday too...) I was an inferior boy but after seeing a TV program on "Women's Problems" (and after reading your blog) my complex have became less (bcause I became proud of being a man) and I feel superiority on my girlfriend. Bye............

Hello Lidia , well done Lidia your report is interesting one , I have lived in Russia but actually thanks to you I'm learning more and more everyday about Russia , first of all , allow me to congratulate you and all women in every place in the world with the woman's day ,and I want to say I agree with what you said and I say the same that treating women very well has to be the same throughout the year . all Russian food , which you have mentioned , is very tasty just when you cook it at home , not just buy them already is cooked from the supermarket and boil them in the water five minutes to eat as well as I had been doing until one Russian friend invited me to his home to eat Pelmeni , Borsh and so on , and the taste was SUPER , well Lidia it's good for us you are hospitality , by the way can you cook Plov ? if so , I will come to Moscow as soon as possible :) best wishes ;

Hello Lidia! I have been reading your blog this two days and I think is really interesting. In Spain, the 8 March isn't a holiday day, but it's a tradition that the employees receive a red flower, for example a rose or a carnation. In my case, when I arrived at my work, the company gave me a carnation and a small cactus. All the workers were very happpy with this present. Go on with this fabulous blog!

Hi Lidia.I am very glad to hear from you. When it comes to food,i always think of the delicious pizza and pasta, etc.Weirdly,as a Chinese,i love western food except fast food. Also,i love all the tasty food.It is very late when i am writing this comment, because i am under the weather today .It is my examination results that bothered me much.I failed...Anyway,everything happens for the best i believe.Dear Lidia,i would like to ask a question:Have you had to pass a very tough exam before going to college? Is it very hard to get into? Please tell me.Good luck!!!

I like the fact that you are highly traveled. That makes you more intelligent and objective, I guess.

And yes, the food was good too!

Hi, all! Melody, what´s a name! I thought about the name yesterday. I am sad you failed. Actually I came from my lesson somehow sad too. As obvious, there were mistakes in my homework and I am confused about corrections which made my teacher even in phrases which I learned from blogs. I feel like being at the beginning constantly or being not able to learn in my age any more. Imagine, there flased an idea in my head to enter the competition here! My nephew, Peter, works very hard now for his final exams at grammar school and demanding entrance checks to military high school at the same time. I am scared about his decission but I´ll cross fingers to achieve your aims!

Hello Lida, your report was fabulous and intersting, and i fact i dont really nothing about and all, thanks for u to give me a new knowledge..your food pattern seems to be very healthy and yummy!About women's day u mentioned that u have a day off, lucky people but here in India we dont have holiday on this particular day. Have a great day, with love, shylaja.

Hi, Lida! One comment about 'borsh'. It's not russian soup, it is ukrainian soup. Almost the same russian soup calls 'schi'.

Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
