from Lidia-3

Hello everybody!

Nice to see all my blog's friends here again!

Well, hope you are OK and are ready for my today's report.

I got a lot of questions about the climate in Russia. This is a very popular question of European people. Often when I meet people they ask to me how we "poor" Russian people can survive in cold winter:).

I think European imagination of the Russian climate seems like that because of old movies and classic literature. Most of the Russian writers had been written how people live & feel in winter. The temperature about - 35 degrees, a snow every day, people drinking vodka and sitting at home......

I can answer to you - NO Russia isn't only Siberia. The last autumn and the last winter were very warm for Russia also.I saw the first snow about the New Year celebration in December. The coldest temperature was during the last two weeks. About -15 degrees that is not too cold for us. I know for Ireland and the UK ( for example) the temperature 0 degrees is the situation when people do not go to their work and to schools and the life stop for a while. This is true. I used to live in one nice family in Ireland when was a student and in one family in the UK. I was in Ireland in winter and the temperature was about + 7 degrees BUT inside of Irish houses was cold for me. I couldn't be in home's clothes. The heating into buildings are nothing for me:). All time I was wearing in scarf, 2 pullovers, jeans. In the morning it was......crazy to take a shower in a cold bathroom with an open window..a fridge for me :).
(By the way I still love Ireland and the UK:)
In Russia people can't undertsand how it is possible for Europe switch on their heating just for 1-2 hours in the morning and 2-3 hours in the evening. All Russian students have just two problems in Ireland and the UK - heating and food.:)

We have warm clothes like winter coats, pullovers and winter shoose. The temperature inside of buildings is about 20-22 degrees around the day. So, we just need to spend time in the streets for a way from house to the office and come back. If you have a car this is easy don't pay attention for not warm days:).

Actually the problem for many people is the sun. Because we love sunny days and sunny warm in Russia a lot. But in winter this is not often unfortunately. And we miss our sun and it can influences on people's mood. But now spring is coming and we hope to change our winter clothes on our spring nice coats and enjoy the sun every day!

I wish you the sun every day and will be glad to get your new quesions!
Thanks.
With best wishes.

Hi,Lidia! It is nice to read your letters. It seems we`ll learn about another big city. I haven`t been in Mocsow but I visited Petrohrad about sexteen years ago and spent there the whole day in the Ermitage. Will you tell us about such wondeful places in your town? You are a woman full of energy I think. I`d need some of it from you. Next Saturday I hope visiting Van Gogh exhibition in Budapest, having said that I missed Chagall`s one in Vienna because of my illness.

Hi,Lidia It's been a gorgeous day here and l certainly enjoyed it.Anyway,I am sure you have spotted my name somewhere like students or teachers comments. That's right I am the clumsiest one but I can't stop sending my mistakes all over these blogs. When I specially read blogs from our neighbour's country like you. It's nice to hear you the truth of Russia's climate on your own words.I believed that Russia was always cold, lots of snow, strong wind and your people drink strong alcohol like vodca a lot to get over the cold.To move on coming Sring, what is the sring like in Russia? Personally,I feel early signs of Spring seeing many "snowdrops and daffodils" nearly every houses'garden. The snowdrops are small and write but the daffodils are clean yellow. They make a good contrast and let the dull gardens bright and vivid.Nice to meet you and see you soon!hyoshil

Hi Lidia, I am Ana, I live in Rondônia, north of Brasil is next to Amazonia and here the temperature is about +35 degrees every single day! Today is my second day here at BBC World Service, and I am so glad to meet you!

Hi Lidia! Thanks for the information about Russia´s weather. Actually just like you sad I´ve had a picture in my mind of Russia´s climate very closed to what we read at the books. I also remember Doctor´s Jivago film, which we saw Omar Sharif wandering around wearing heavy clothes and the snow falling down while Lara´s theme was playing. Anyway... it´s good to know that´s not exactly like this. By the way, you told that you spend some time in Ireland and UK, and as you sad your problems were only the heating and the food, am I right? So why the food was a problem? Didn´t you like it? As you mention food in today´s blog could you talk about Russian cookery? What is your favourite plate? How is it made? I looking foward to your next blog. Best wishes, Ana Paula.

Hello Lidia, it's very interesting to hear the climate in your country. Until now, I know that some of my previous impressions of your climate is wrong. Wish you a sunny day, too, pretty girl!

Hi,Lidia. From your entry,i know the temperature inside is much higher than the outside in winter in Russia.Interestingly,it is the same situation as in the northeast of China.what is more, the coldness you felt in UK or Ireland inside their houses is also the northeaster felt in my hometown. What a small world!I am so interested in the wedding traditions of your countries.Hope to read your next entry.Best wishes from China.

It's pleasure to read you report again . I can see you are so happy everyday.I also like sunny day, but resently there is always rainy. The bad weather has been lasting for about one week.

hi lidia jan! i hope you have a wonderful time. i am very happy to know about the climats in your country and i would like to know about your culture, and about your chilledhood and famouse places, if God is willing i would like to come to Russia one in one day, but it's not easy for me becouse it very Difficult to get a visa in my country.so it is so nice to dream a little bit, isn't it? by the way, i hope to see more Interesting bloges from you. with best regards.

Hello Lidia , people don't just read books and watch films ,they also watch daily weather news for all over the world including Russia and this news is showing how cold Russia is , as a matter of fact , Russia occupies place among the very coldest countries . and what about the temperature of this year in Russia , so that what calls global warming and you can find this situation of gradual increase everywhere but despite global warming , Russia still regards as a very cold country , therefore when we talk about Russian climate is very cold especially in winter so that is scientific fact . but as you mentioned in winter in Russia the temperature inside of buildings is about 20-22 degrees around the day , and that's not just you who says that about Russia , all people say how it's very warm in the Russian houses in winter , I mean people who have been to Russia . have a sunny day , shastlivo :)

Hi Lidia and everyone else. I also find it extremely nice that the dark winter months in Finland are breaking as they are in Russia. Yes our winters are harsh. In the Finnish Lapland the darkness lasts at least two months and in Oulu, where I live, the days are very short from October to mid December. At the end of November it is still dusk at 10 am. Between 10 am and 2 pm we have some light (no sun), until it gets dark again after 3 pm. But when the snow falls, it is wonderful and the white snow reflects the feeling of light. December is already a merry month, even more so in Lapland, where the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. But when summer arrives, it is quite the opposite. It is always light. Our Midsummer´s Day (26.6.) sun is shining 24 hours per day. I find the darkness tiring and also somewhat miserable as you do Lidia. We usually take a holiday in September and travel somewhere where we can enjoy sunny days to get us through the winter months. But our dim mouths are also blessing, one can stay indoors reading and contemplating. This weekend my husband and I are going down hill skiing. So until next week…

Hi Lidia, it's nice to read your entry again. Girl, these temperatures you mentioned in your blog are very hard for us brazilian people to imagine. We hardly ever have temperatures below +15 degrees celsius here. In the south of the country we have some lower temperatures, but I never experienced them. But I'm not sure if I understood what you wrote right. You said the temperature you experienced in Ireland in winter was cold for you, but aren't you accustomed to lower temperatures in your country? Is it because the cold weather there is moister or something like that? Lidia, it's very good to be reading about you and your experiences. Good bye for now. See you.

Hi again, if you like really exhilarating experience, visit me here in Finland and we go swimming during the winter. The temperature outside may be as low as –28 degrees C and the water temperature is about +1 - 2 degrees. Naturally the rivers are frozen and one has to make a hole in the ice. That is cold, but it is very healthy, good for rheumatism (which I dont luckly have).

Hi Lidia, the last winter here in Germany was a very warm one. I remember only 2 days, where we have had some snow and then only for a few hours. Children were sad because they like playing in the snow and sledge, but it was impossible. Now it's springtime and you can see the first flowers and trees are blooming. The daylight is longer now and also people revive. Have a good time and I'm looking forward to your next blog.

Hi Lidia! I have been back to visit this website after a long time. Nice to meet you. Your country is really fascinating and the people are very friendly I have to say. I have a friend from Russia and he presented me a lovely Matroshka and told me many things about Russia. I'm very glad to read your blog and to know more about this country's culture. ;) I live in Hanoi. When I asked him "What do you think is the similarity between Moscow and Hanoi?" He answered within a moment that it is the people. I am impressed deeply by your people's hospitality!

Hi Lidia,in Bangladesh the weather is neither too hot nor too cold but very much comfortable. To me your report on Russia Weather(cool!?) is very interesting.

Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
