Rainy day in London. What a surprise!

FROM JULIETTE

Oh la la, it's nearly the end of the day and I still haven't written my blog.

Working in a media environment makes my weeks looks different every day. On one hand, it's because of the content of the job. Dealing with news makes your days looks always different. However, it can be sometimes frustrating not to be able to spend more than a day or two on a topic. On the other hand, it's because my week is divided in two-parts and so, for two days a week, I work in the same room but from a different desk. Despite the different views, it gives me a different perspective of people as well and it's very interesting from a sociologic point of view.
The room is a huge open-space office full of computers but it's not as tidy as in a normal office. You have TV and screen everywhere and moreover, it can be very messy with desks full of newspapers, headphones, rolec (thingy to listen to the radio round the world), food and drinks left over from the night team.
Before I started my job, I was picturing a very busy and very noisy office but despite this big open-plan office, it's not so noisy. Busy it is, but the sound isn't so bad except when someone is trying to call an interviewee in India and that the phone line is really bad. Everybody in the office is able to follow the interview and give feed back about it. I don’t know why I had this image of noisy environment with phone ringing all the time, probably from movies, I must admit that I was a little bit disappointed. Now, after 10 months working there, I'm very happy that it's not like in movies as I would have headache every single evening after work.

How is it like for you in your work environment?

Juliette

Hello Juliette! Your job looks to be very interesting. I work at a galvanization company, so noisy is in everywhere! Even though I work at the laboratory which is less noisy I have to use earplugs to protect my hearing because I´m constantly exposed to noisy. Sometimes I wonder how would be work at place where the silence reign. Would be great or would be boring due it doesn´t hear any sound? Well that´s something that I really couldn´t find a answer. Regards, Ana Paula.

Hi,the weather in Thailand is quite hot today . May be effect of the global warming , I have to come back my home , that is , the final examination has passed . And the next two week I will prepare to practise my course work at the factory near my campus in this summer. Thus I expect that this period of course work make me so grumpy. After I have already done work , I will answer your blog in every day I can. That is because your blog are clear and well structure. I wise you to use a difference structure and vocadulary when you are writing blogs Looking forward to interesting blog. Take care.

Hello Juliette , I'm new here and I'd like to say it's nice to meet you , actually this is my first time to try to write my opinion , I think it's not easy to write your diary I think it's a little bit embarrassing because when you write , you think oh.. how will people react to me and my diary , may be they won't likt it so the blogger have to be brave and patient and so are you . Unfortunately I don't work , I'm still studying to get my master's degree but I have some worries about what I'm able to do , I mean I feel a little bit less confident in myself , but I'm sure all these feeling are going to be disappeared when I find job and get started , I really appreciate your job and and you're doing well at work so hang in there .

Hello Juliette, your job seems to be very interesting. My job environment is really noisy. It shouldn't be and I am constantly struggling to make it calmer, but I'm usually not very successful on that. I work as a math teacher in a public school. Although I teach math which is supposedly a subject students respect and try to get the best from the class, this doesn't happen with me. But I'm trying to learn. Anyway, sometimes I wish I had chosen a job that could be more suitable to my personality. It's always nice hearing from you. Until next time good bye.

Hi Juliette! I have a job as a phone operator, so phones are ringing all the time during my working day. At first, this is a bit stressful, but after some weeks, you learn to feel good with the noise and the activity.

Hi Juliette! The strategy that has been implemented in your job is very curious, because against my job i haven't the problem of the noise my problem is the extreme silence. Right now, i'm preparating for begining my master studies in Germany. I have to learn two languages (english and german) besides of the other requirements that i have to send at the university. I'm in the same situation with Aiman (at Yemen) is not easy to write my opinion, but I try to write you more for improving my skills. bye

Hi! What I could write to the topic? In a lab, where I worked before was noisy because of to handle glass tubes, petri dishes and there were ranging phones asking questions and results around. Even the staff was listening to another radio station in each room on loud. Now I sit many hours looking at screen in small silent lonely place. Juliette, I think you are happy on the place!

Well, where I work there isn't noise... I work in a laboratory of geology at the State University of Londrina.... the interesting is that, Londrina is a city in the south of brazil, and means small london. Because, long time ago the first ppl that came here was English, beginig some kind of busines, so they gave the name of this city 70 years ago. thanks and have a lovely day. bye

Hi Juliette, here is boiling. I work in two different work environments. If I started picturing my profession based in movies and tv shows I would be frustrated. I see in Mr Bean or in the Disney's film "Nemo" what people think about my profession. People are always scared of us, dentists. In the morning I work in a company with many colleagues. It's quite dynamic. We always share our opinions, discuss treatment plans together, etc. I work there for a long time since I was a trainee...so it's like my 2nd home. My boss, my colleagues and I have a good relationship. It's noisy depending on what I am doing. If I am preparing a cavity to make a composite filling, it's noisy but if I am removing a wisdon tooth, it's really quiet. It looks different every hour depending on who is going to sit in the chair and what I am going to do. I don't like routine, so I love to meet different people, especially children and elderly. The elderly people love me because I talk too much. Some of them don't have anything to do and go there with the excuse to make a treatment but what they really need is to talk. In my profession, I am a mix of psychologist, artist, etc. I like especially when I have to make preventive programs out of the company for children, parents, teachers and kindgarten's staff. But it's rare to do that because our western society likes the curative dentistry and not preventive and the pharmaceutical companies that have the power. So...most of the time I am inside the company. There is always a bottle of water there because I drink water all the time. Remember I live in a tropical country. However, I never have time to eat. In my other job is almost similar but I work only with an assistent and a dental laboratory technician ( the other dentist just work there when I am not there). I find it much boring because I have to be not only the dentist but also a manager. As I take care of my happiness, I just stay there until late twice a week, the remaining days I try to come home early or go to make exercise.

Hi Juliette, I worked as an English teacher for almost 20 years but right now I've reached a crisis point in my career. Although I love English, I had enough of teaching. So right now I'm on the dole,as a temporary housewife.Maybe it's the middle-aged crisis!!But I must say it's not easy to face a class with students who are usually forced to study by their parents, just a few show interest in learning! As well as this,I had to cope with a lot of loud, noisy teens. Honestly, there were too many juggling balls to co-ordinate!Your job sounds interesting, though!Despite the mess of papers and gadgets, you can work on your own and in peace and that is quite appealing!Although I understand you may have stressful moments due to deadlines.Am I right? It would be interesting to know more about your chores.Who knows, maybe I can become a future journalist like you. It's never too late.

Hi Juliette! It is very nice to read your blog. My work place is not noisy, but sometime if my boss angry with network problem.

I am a teaching assistant for ICT at British Internation School Vietnam. My work environment is like the the ocean. Sometimes it is very noisy when students come there at the break time or lunch time. So I must stick some labels on the walls "Quiet Study Zone" but it is just 50% effect. And sometimes it is very peacful and quiet when we have no class. But any way I love both the atmosphere and our students. They're so nice.

Hi there! Nice to read your blog, Juliette. I've just graduated a bachelor's degree of law and now work at a governmental agency called Rights and Liberties Department, belongging to the Ministry of Justice. It's my first time fully doing a full-time job but the job is going well. The enviroment is also nice. The office is clean, even though there are so many desks, chairs, computers and electic wires which are rough and make me walk uneasily. And I don't like to be in an air-conditionered room, I think it's not serene, not live and cheerful. I just love the bright of the sun. :) Your work is very interesting. I'm looking forward to reading it soon! Bye for now. :)

Hello Juliette, my weeks looks the same every day. I work in a small office. Our company produces interior door. I´m sitting alone in my office, I´m writting quotations, orders, confirmations, sending fax messages, e-mails etc and I´m reading your blog :) Phones aren´t ringing all the time as by Alejandra from Spain, so it´s little bit boring. So my work environment is really really silent. This is the first time I´m writting some comment, but Iĺl try it more and more to improve my poor English skills. Take care
