More about my adventure in England.

FROM JULIETTE

Hello everyone,

It's so nice to read so many comments and so many warm welcome from you. Thanks also for the Chinese New Year wishes. I was in Chinatown in London this week-end with friends and it's was packed but great.
I'm also glad to know that my writing English is not that bad. I will pay more attention on tenses and make sure I read twice my blog.

You want to know more about my adventure! I'll be happy to share it with you. I went through very hard time but I don't regret a thing.

To tell you the truth, my move to England was made of different reasons.
The main reason was that I had already lived in England for one year a long time ago. It was just after my Baccalaureat (a-level), and didn't know what to do after my exams. I didn’t want to study anymore; I wanted to discover the world and other culture. Big problem, I was not good at all in English. I've changed my plans and decided to improve my English instead of travelling round the world. You can imagine that my parents were really pleased about my 'wise' decision.
I had a great time there in England because I was a student at that time and Bristol, where I was, is a lovely city, a medium-size city. I ended up my gap year with more fluency in English but I only managed to pass the first certificate instead of the intermediate level. I didn't matter; I had had a great time.

Back to France, went to University but wanted to go back to England.
12 years passed by and I started working in Media. One day, I meet a lovely English man, I had finish my freelance contract in Geneva and decided to move to England. He was from London. I moved to London. Our relation didn't work out but I decided to stay.

If ever one day you decide to move to another country, especially in a country where they speak a foreign language, make sure you've got or lots of money or a good job. London is like a jungle, an urban jungle. Geographically, England is very close from France but suprisingly sometimes I've got the feeling to live on another planet. The hardest part is to get to know the way things works, they way people communicate with each other and make friends.
My feeling about London is mix. Some days I love it, some days I hate it.
Some days I wish I was living in a tiny village with a nice café where I would hang out with my friends with a glass of Wine and some cheese.
The hardest part here in London, it's to meet people and make friends. It's such a big city that even when you have friends, it's hard to meet each other spontaneously. People are too busy and distances are too big. You become lazy.

Food: Ah! The food topic. I love to eat. I love to cook and I love London for that (Yes, Yes that's right) because you can find all kind of food. Thai, Korean, Brazilian, Mongolian, Argentinean, Italian, Japonese and so on (for French I cook it myself).
A quick answer to Adriana from Brazil. I don't know why French Woman are slim (not all of them) but I've noticed that French People eat a lots of vegetable, use Olive oil, some wine, and some cheese and that's all good for you. Absolutely. Cheese and wine are good for you. I think someone wrote a book about this topic.

Ah la la, my dear friend bloggers, I think my blog is too long, I've too many things to tell you. I stop here. Part 2 tomorrow.....

Have a nice evening.
Juliette

Hi Juliette, thank you for filling us in with your story. I loved the way you described your adventure. I can hardly wait for part two. Best wishes from Brazil.

Dear Juliette! Hi. It's nice to hear from you again. Interesting adventure! I wish you landsliding progress by the day. Just like Samantha, I do think you are so brave to have given a chance to a "New Start". Leaving a country like Switzerland , that is so popular on the international stage as the "cradle of peace and security" , really takes heart. Not everybody is capable of taking such a risk.Although being a journalist is something potentially adventurous as well. Anyway,I wish you all the best and will be waiting to hear more and more from you. I love long blogs. Good Luck1 Katy/Iran

Hello Juliette!!! Nice to meet you. I have red your blog with big curious. I find it atractive and I must admit that you are very courageous girl. I mean your trip to England on your own. It was risky decision to arrive to another, alien city and build your live path from the begining without any help. It must have been very difficult decision. But frankly speaking, it confirms your ambitions and stubborn in getting a goal. You are very valuable person and you have precised plan for the future. Nowadays, it is a rarity to find such a confident person who know what wants to do in her live. Keep going! Best wishes !

Dear Juliette, thank you for your interesting last blog. I've been in Paris for the last 4 days. It's a very great and busy town, with lot of things to see.I've been in London 20 years ago and I enjoyed it very much, especially the theatre and the Oxford Street. I imagine, that it will be another world for me today.I'm looking forward to your next blog, have a good time and best wishes

Hi, Juliette! Thanks for your wonderful blog! I love it, and find there are a lot of similiar feelings like you, since I am living in a foreign country too. ^00^ Really, it is not easy to earn living out of home-country. There are quite a lot of things different from China. Language, customs, ways to communicate and so on. Now, I am a student and just do what you have done, Juliette! Learning English first, and then try to apply to study what is proper for us to show our merits and easy for us to find a job. Looking forward to your adventures! And sincerely hope your everything goes well! Warm good wishes from Helen!

Dear Juliette, I believe you made the best possible decision in your life which is completely related to your goal, as you know ,for being a successful journalist you need to learn English and work with professionals and you planed for both by moving to London which is the best place for learning English and working with strongest media in the world, the first immediate expected result of your decision as I experienced is some difficulties in private life like as meeting people and making friends as you mentioned in your blog which will be solved as the time is passing ,believe me after a short time you will made your favorite friends and will enjoy more of living in London and more important you will reach to your professional goal I hope to read your lecture in famous magazine in a little while

Hello, Juliette! With a bit of delay, I wish to tell you welcome and nice to meet you! Thank you for sharing some aspects of your life with us! While reading your blog I was caught by thought that it resembles a bit of my story, but the difference is I am only at the very beginning of my journey, I have just left my country and am trying to get used to a quite different environment, sometimes it is really a challege, but there are moments of adventure. I am looking forward to your next blog! With best wishes...

Hi.. Juliette! I’m too much enjoying your adventure in England. Also I’m getting some new idea about England, that would not easy to get from other. So I’m feeling lucky to hearing from you. I’m waiting to hear from you more about England culture. Wish you best luck

Hello Juliette! Nice to meet you. I'm a new blogger from Ethiopia. I'm learning English here in Addis Ababa, the capital, in a language school. I found your story worth reading. Today, I want to tell you some of the grammer mistakes I found from your Monday Feb.19 story. You said "...England is very close from France...". I learn that the preposition that goes together with 'close' is 'to' not'from' so that it becomes more formal. The other is, you said, "The hardest part here in London, it's to meet people...". Because it a full sentences, it should be " The hardest part here in London is to meet people..." Best wishes, Aderaw

Hello Juliette, my name ist Ann and originally come from China, from Beijing. Since four years I´m studing in Germany. Of course I have to speak German everyday with the local people. I´s glad here to talk about my experiences with you. As we know, the culture between the both countries (China and Germany) is so different that I couldn´t image before. For instance, Language, foods, liftstyle, definition of relationship are totally different. So in this living enviroment is barely possible a real friend to meet. The relationship between the people is more complex than in China. Distance and Missunderstanding stay in the middle of the kontact.

Dear Julliete, what a nice blog. You almost wrote like a beautiful memoir by some famous author describing her experiences. Look forward to your future posts.

Dear Juliette,Amazing story and it was very interesting in fact.. I am a new blogger here and i found ur story worth reading,I am from India, and i dont know about Germany,France and all.. from ur thing i have got to know much things..and hats off to ur bold decision.. looking forward more stories from u..

Dear Juliette, After reading this blog you wrote about your life in England, i found a lot of similaritis between you and me, since i moved to Toronto last year. About new friends, it's really hard and rare to find one that you will keep in touch after the end of your courses and find a day that suits both your friend and yourself to go out afterwards. I would have to assume that the only best friend i have now right would would be my sister, because we both live under the same roof!! by the way, your writings are pretty nice! i really enjoy reading them. It's such a pity that you don't write anymore!! anyway, good luck to whatever you are doing recently. Bye

Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
