Chapter 15. Listening to the radio.

Hi.

On my way from home to work and from work to home I usually listen to the BBC radio podcasts. I download them from the Internet and then into my MP3 player. Unfortunately, it is not very convenient to listen it with earphones. The sound level varies from one issue to another and during the same composition if it's complex, for instance speech and music. So I had to sneak under my cloaks which are several due to the cold weather and manipulate the volume level. Nevertheless I find listening to the radio quite useful way of learning. First of all it's just interesting. Second, it doesn't reqire much efforts. I mean that you can do this while doing something else or while unwilling spare time. My favorite podcasts are "Documentary" , "From Our Own Correspondent" and, of course, "Digital Planet". Beside I always learn something new from them, they are easy understandable due to good English. Also I listen to "The Best of Moyles", Cris Evans show and several others. As a rule, they are more fun but less clear for me; they speak too fast in there. :) Sometimes I listen to audiobooks when I can get them. I think that it's great that all these opportunities are available at the moment. Do you agree?

I wish you good weekend.
Alex.

Dear Alex, I agree with you, podcasts are very useful for me as English learner. I prefer listening to technology and documentary ones. I will try the podcasts "The Best of Moyles" and "Chris Evans show" as you mentioned them. Dear Alex, thank you for your great work! You are giving me interesting information about Russia and its life. Take care, Dusan.

I feel the same that the sound level of BBC radio podcasts varies a lot. Ya, it's quite relaxing as I'll close my eyes when listening to the radio! ^^

I would like to listen the BBC Radio Five Live on-line as a way to learn english.

Hello,Alex! I hope your way to learn English by listening is useful. As I am conserned, podcasts help me very much, because I know the spelling of many words but I don't know their pronunciation. Moreover this way I get used to the speach. Sometimes I listen downloaded MP3 files at home by wireless headphones. My son, who has a good sense of humour, jokingly said that I looked like a mosquito - electric welder ;-) with these headphones. When I looked at the mirror I found it was a good description.Bye for now!Diema

Hi Alex... I read that you listen to the BBC podcasts?? I understood what do you mean. But the expression, I didn't find a translation in german! What are podcasts?? My second question is, where do you find the mp3 files to download?? It is an good Idea to learn English!! Thanks Alex..

it is wounderful having such meeting.people around me want to meeing like this . it can imporve our english. i am a university and i often go enlish corner to practise my spoken english.it is once a week.but there are few teachers from english-speaking countries.so it is a pity. best wishes.

Hi Alex! I agree with you. Listening music is the best way to learning English. I remember when I was young we used to have a class called "musical meeting" we learned a lot. Best wishes.

Actually I listen to some of news by earphone in my way to home but unfortunatelly the quallity of sound are really low!

I also download the mp3 files to my mp3 player, but the music is louder than the speaking so that bugs me a lot. Thanks anyway.

Thanks for all your contributions. This blog has now closed and can no longer accept new comments.
