Chapter 10. Animals.

Hi there.

Getting back to the theme of a country house... The comment of andrielledcf from Brazil have made me to recall a funny moment. Some time ago Brazil and Mexican soap operas were quite popular in our country. In one of those the action took place in a countryside and the place was called 'fazenda'. Actually it was relatively rich place. Since then we sometime jokingly call our country house 'fazenda' as well. But today Tricia's blog inspires me to tell about animals.

Speaking of wild animals I should say we don't have many of them over here. In my youth I used to ramble in a forest picking up mushrums, berries or without a purpose. And I never met animals. Meeting a squirrel was quite an amazing event for me. Only once or twice I saw an elk. The biggest 'beast' near our fazenda is a hedgehog. A family of hedgehogs lives in a heap of brushwood in the neighbourhood. Sometimes they are too noisy, in such cases my wife says they 'arrange a champing'. Anyway it's funny and never annoying. We've got geckos as well. Amoung vermints I can name only moles. They nibble the roots of our apple-trees.
And, of course, we've got Colorado beetles which is a real disaster for potato growers. But they are not animals but bugs, I reckon.

Speaking of pets... We ain't got pets. Unfortunatly. The first main reason is our poor living condition. We've no free room even for an aquarium. And I'm afraid that improving my living condition is my pipe dream. The situation with an accommodation in our town is absolutely dead-end, the prices are unreasonably high and incomparable with income. The second reason is... me. I think in any case we could have a cat. But I can't bear cats. I've got an allergy. When I share one room with a cat I start to sneeze, tears come out of my eyes and I suffocate. It's terrible but I can't help it. It's sad, because my children are fond of pets. They love to play with little dogs and if it's impossible they play with puppet dogs. I'm so sorry we can't afford to have pets.

Bye now. I wish all of you nice weekend. Alex, the Captain. :)

Hi,Alex! I would like to congratulate you for not having pets(like cats and dogs)in a small place.I've always thought it is a torture for them to stay in a flat waiting for someone to let them going out for a while. The situation is rather different in a house even with a small garden.Puppet dogs and kittens are so cute that every child want to cuddle them. The aquarium is a good choice for narrow spaces. We used to keep small fishes, but my husband became allergic to microorganisms in the aquarium's water. At firs it sounded me ridiculous, but if you don't know about 10 l water in a 100 l aquarium water steams away for a month. The steam is in the air. There is reason to become allegric.I don't know for sure that it was the cause, but I know for sure that I miss fishes now.Actually I couldn't cuddle them, but I used to enjoy them for hours. My children are fond of puppets.I have promissed I'll take a dog when I buy a house with a graden. It seems to me like pipe dream but the future will show us."Pojivem, uvidim" is in Russian, isn't it. Best wishes Diema

'arrange a champing' or "arrange a campaign"?

Hi, Alex! Recently I started to stud English...I found out your Blog accidentally...it`s very interesting to learn... But I`ve got a question to you : where are you living now and another - have you been in Moscow? Now here there is winter...(( Good luck. Hope you`ll answer me!

hi Alex! I have been reading yourblog since you present your first one.I like the way of your writing and your good sense of humour.I suppose you are a very intelligent guy and a responsible bread-winner. Speaking of pets, i have the same allegic problem with you.as a matter of fact, i am allegic with many things such as pollen, alcohol, sudden change of temperature and so on.That is the reason why i can not raise a dog for my daughter she has been asking since she is very young. I promised to buy many lovely dogs as gift when she gets married. Alex, i have follow your tip to improve English by watching original English film.I went to the video shop and bought twopiece film but failed to find your favouite one "The IT Crowd".I am going to buy additional one this afternoon and will enjoy with my daughter tonignt. All the best

Hi Alex! Like you I'm not fond of cats, they're too independent for my taste and don't seem to be very loyal like dogs.I'm really fond of dogs though and I've always had one. Right now I have Billy, a patch colour cocker spaniel. He is like my sahdow, follows me everywhere when I'm at home.He is so cute.I agree with Demia that animals do suffer when they're confined. My dog lives in flat and I feel he misses open areas. Every now and then I take him to swim in the waterfalls nearby. Speaking of wild animal, in this region here, we have an animal santuary called the Pantanal and it's amazing to see the variety of birds and animals such as alligators, pacas, onças!! It's beautiful, a feast to the eyes, really!! Foreigners love coming around to do birdwatching.I hope you have a nice week. All the best Monica
