Chapter 3. "Hurray, hurray, it's a Holi-Holiday!!"
Hello there!
How are you all doing after yesterday? Didn't you have Halloween Party last night? Ok, I'll just get back to this theme after short. But first, I'd like to thank all of you who read and comment my blog. It really makes my writing challenging. As Diema from Bulgaria have noticed, I indeed have some sense of humour. It's nearly impossible to live without sense of humour over here unless you're going to get mad. And I'd like to tell, in advance, if you will met something in my blog, that seems extraordinary strange, please don't treat it too seriously.
Today I want to tell about holidays. During the Soviet peroid of our country we didn't have much holidays. And most of them were rather dull, excluding maybe New Year Holiday. The biggest event on Soviet holiday was a demonstration which was mandatory ergo not too funny. As that period past, russian people seemed to compensate that lack of holidays absorbing all the possible holidays from all over the world. To name but a few the following chain of local holidays:
25th of December - Catholic Christmas,
31th of December - New Year Holiday,
7th of January - Orthodoxy Christmas,
14th of January - Old New Year Holiday...
There is no gap in between to recover. :) And you don't believe me, we even selebrate Chineese New Year as well! Unfortunately, the way of selebrating hasn't changed significantly since previuos times. The central part of each holiday is a dinner. Well-served but still a meal. And then - dancing. Apparently in order to free some additional room in the belly for another food and drink. And maybe fireworks which have become available.
In contrast with it the Halloween Party goes, which we have been selebrating for several years at 31th of October. At least it looks like a fancy dress party. People dress up as creatures from the underworld and perform some spectacular actions. This is fun as a rule. I faithfully believe sometimes it will become a costume festival like those take place in other countries.

Also now we have autumn school holidays started. That's a little relief for our family. We have sent our children to their grandma and now feel a little more relaxed. It't not kinda we want to get rid of them, but we live in a tight room with just a couple square meters of free space and as the boys are quite agile (they are twelve and nine) there is always a mess. In addition, grandma let the children to have more freedom in their actions. So that's a relief both for them and for us to get rest from each other. Of course, we communicate by the phone instantly.
Tricia, I'd like to know if You selebrate both British and local holidays at Your place?
Looking forward to read more comments from all of you. Bye for today.

Hi! I would like to tell you how we in Bulgaria celebrate.Just like in Russia during the comunist's regim the main festivities were mandatory demonstrations. The central part were diners with extended relatives, who we rarely see between holidays.Situation has changed recently.Previous generation celebrate in similar way, but young people try to do somethimg different. Two or tree times a year(usually in May Septembre and Decembre) we get together with our close family friends about 15 people and travel to a place, which we has chosen together previously. We usually choose country's regions near rivers or in the mountain and combine our holiday with skiing, tourism, playing tennis, biking.Generally, we try to be active and diversify by choosing places with caves, museums, parks. That way we feel refilled after that. There is food and drinks of course, but we don't like to abuse with them. Our children(two boys-14 and 5)like that holidays very much and are impatient.We/adults/ like the period of prepation too and make plans in anticipation of the date.Everything lasts no more than 4 days. This is not our summer or winter holiday. These days just give us freshness and great emotions, which you would miss staying at home.Of course it costs money. But if someone reckons,it is a good investment in unforgettable memories.;-) Bye for now! the Russion people are mysterious to me......i like seeing russion TV series, don't remember the name of it,but i remember the heroine is as beutiful as prince snow white. nice blog!
Hi Alex, When I come home in the afternoon, I'm jumping behind my computer and read your blog. I'm really fascinated by it. Your English is great and the way you write it, is so vivid. I am curious about many things of your day-to-day life. How is your job, what about your colleagues. Does your wife help you writing this blog? Is it a big city where you live in? Will you please tell me something about your alphabet, the way of writing letters is different from the Western world, isn't it? I think that makes it more difficult to learn English. I think it's a wonderful world we live in. You write a blog, more than thousand kilometres from my country and I am able to read it. It's a great opportunity to meet different cultures. You wrote about public holidays and asked on what way they will be celebrated in other countries. We also have a lot of them, but one is very special. It's the birthday of our Queen Beatrix. Then we all become a bit crazy and in every village, big or small, are feasts. Almost everybody is going outside, eat and drink a lot and are very cheerful than. I like that day very much. I am looking forward to your next blog!! For me English is a difficult language too, especially the prepositions. And of course a lot of other things. Greetings and best wishes, Wim
Hi Alex(ander)or(ey)? At last a russian has learnt english well enough to have won that blog competition. Good for you man! You know, you are like Uri Gagarin now! I wonder if you remembered to say "poehali" before writing your 1st blog just as he had said before they launched him. I must say your 1st two blogs aren't made in Thailand. I wonder how long you've been studying the language, 5 years at least excluding 5 school years, which are always useless, but sometime they leave a desire to study it later when you are 25 or more, imho. You know, the best way to cope with all grammar problems you mentioned might be teaching your own kids and your dearest wife english. You will defenitely make yourself to go and get all those grammar rules and exceptions which make millions of learners of english unhappy and nearly hopeless, especially before exams. I bet a very small bunch of Brits have mastered them all, kinda Will Shakespeare of John Steinbeck. The rest of those guys still have to check the spelling online before sending their emails to business partners. I understand them, I'd do it myself if my checker worked. So Alex, keep it up and make us happy with your blogs. I'm gonna read them daily. Best wishes to your family. Roman. PS another good way of learning is watching dvds. At least the most interesting. Subtitles are preferable.
