York City Knights prop Danny Ekis has said he hopes to be playing for the National League Two side again before the end of the season. The 26-year-old had a hernia operation last week and has not played since the Knights' 56-18 win at Workington Town on 20 July. Ekis told BBC Radio York: "I'm hoping in two weeks I can get back out there and carry on where I left off." "The operation went really well last Wednesday and I'm recovering quickly." He added: "I'll be able to do some light running and some light cardio work so I can get my body moving again and keep my fitness ticking over." Ekis was in good form before the operation but will have some tough competition to get back into the side as last week the Knights signed prop Nathan Massey on loan from Castleford as cover until the end of the season. But Ekis added: "I don't mind competition, that'll keep me on my toes which is what I like, I don't like to relax at any cost, I like to keep up there and competition only helps the team get results so there's no problem."
