Harrogate hope to upset leaders

Cricket ball

The Yorkshire Premier League's bottom side Harrogate will hope to upset leaders York on Saturday.

Harrogate, who are 27 points adrift at the bottom of the table, were close to overhauling second-placed Rotherham's total of 339 last week.

York's dangerman is Australian opening batsman Dan Wilson, who has scored 1,212 runs so far this season.

Harrogate skipper David Stiff told BBC Radio York: "Simon Mason and Dan Wilson are the two really dangerous players."

He added: "Certainly their top three [batsmen] are really important, once we can get them out it's a little bit more manageable.

"We can't go any lower in the table so we may as well give it our best shot."

Meanwhile York all-rounder Nick Kay said going into the game with a 21-point lead at the top was "beyond our wildest dreams".

But he is aware that Rotherham still pose a threat, adding: "It's probably in effect only 13 points because Rotherham do have a game in hand, we don't want to discard them but it's in our hands to win the league."

As for Harrogate, Kay added: "We'd be foolish to take them lightly and be complacent.

"We've really got to perform on Saturday against Harrogate because they've got the capability of upsetting us if we're not careful."

In contrast Scarborough travel to Cleethorpes having beaten them by just one run earlier in the season.

"They had a sticky start to the season but they're pretty much sitting in the top half of the table now," said Scarborough skipper Darren Harland.

Scarborough are in a pack of teams challenging for second place.
