Scarborough will have Yorkshire prodigy Adam Lyth available for Saturday's intriguing Yorkshire Premier League game against York at Clifton Park. Lyth scored 85 last week as Scarborough beat in-form Hull by six wickets to go third, six points behind leaders York. "It'll be a good sign of where we are against these boys on Saturday," said Scarborough skipper Darren Harland. York are smarting from last week's shock defeat by Sheffield Collegiate, from which they took only one point. "We were actually outplayed in all three departments of the game," admitted York all-rounder Nick Kay. | We need to play a lot better than we did last Saturday York all-rounder Nick Kay |
As it turned out, joint leaders Barnsley lost and took no points. "It was actually a good point to get because it just kept us ahead at the top of the league," added Kay. Kay is well aware of the threat posed by Lyth, opening batsman Harland and Scarborough's overseas star Piet Rinke. "They have four or five players who quite simply can win a game of cricket by themselves. We need to play a lot better than we did last Saturday," Kay concluded. Harland added: "We've always had tight games against York so it's going to be very interesting, now we're full of confidence." Things look grim for Harrogate, whose 28-run defeat by Driffield last week left them 16 points adrift at the bottom of the table. "The mood is not great at the moment," conceded skipper David Stiff. "After the win against Scarborough [three weeks earlier] we've gone back to struggling again." A visit to title-chasing Barnsley is hardly the ideal game for Stiff's side at this point. "The only upside to that is they've just lost a couple of games. "They might be having a little wobble, a little panic, but on the other hand they could be at their most dangerous because they want to get back to winning ways. "If we do all play well we can push teams like this, but at the moment we're not."
