Opener Duncan Snell made 99 for York as they beat Doncaster by 84 runs in the Yorkshire Premier League. The disappointment for York was that they took only six points from the win as Doncaster's last pair clung on. Scarborough skipper Darren Harland scored 101 as his team beat Appleby Frodingham by five wickets. Harrogate stay bottom after they lost at home to Rotherham by seven wickets. "We put five catches down," said Harrogate skipper David Stiff. York's Duncan Snell was bowled on 99 at Doncaster and Alex Collins made 72 not out as York piled up 269-8. York all-rounder Nick Kay praised Snell and fellow opener Dan Wilson. "The new ball was doing a huge amount and they both did very well," he said. Neil Laidlaw and Alex Renton each took three wickets for York but Doncaster held on to reach 185 for 9, the final pair denying York the full eight points. "We did everything we could to get them out," added Kay. | It's a young team and they just need to get a bit more grit and fight in them Harrogate skipper David Stiff |
Scarborough's complete win at Scunthorpe moved them up to seventh. Whitby Town footballer Ashley Lyth took 4-38 as Frodingham were dismissed for 198. While pleased with his ton, Scarborough skipper Darren Harland said: "I'm far more bothered about getting the eight points." Harrogate are now the only team without a win or a point but skipper David Stiff believes they should have achieved both at home to Rotherham. Adam Patel made 56 and Nick Lindley 63 not out in Harrogate's 219-5. Although Rotherham won by seven wickets they were in trouble when the run rate went up to above seven an over, but Harrogate's fielding let them down. Stiff said: "The win was there for the taking. "Up until the last 10 overs really we pretty much had it in the bag. All the pressure was on Rotherham and unfortunately the catching let us down." Rotherham's Alex Welsh was dropped early on and went on to make 104, while James Moorhouse made 52 not out after being dropped twice. Stiff was encouraged by an improvement in the bowling, but conceded: "When we got close a few of us maybe froze a bit and, when the big catches came along, people felt the pressure and put them down. "We need to be a bit tougher really. It's a young team and they just need to get a bit more grit and fight in them. There's three games now we should really have won."
