Defending Yorkshire Premier League champions York twice rescued themselves from a losing position to force a dramatic tie with Driffield. Having collapsed to 30-5, York fought back to post 223, Driffield's Oliver Ezard taking 5-32. Driffield then seemed in total control on 150-2 in reply. But a loss of wickets left them still needing nine off two overs and, thanks to a timely wicket maiden from Nick Kay, they only managed eight. Driffield's Will Norman said: "It feels like a loss for us. We just paced it wrong." York's unlikely rescue helped narrow the gap behind Barnsley to eight points thanks to the leaders' defeat to Hull. "It's four points gained rather than four points lost," admitted York hero Kay. "We were dead and buried." Scarborough beat Sheffield United by 11 runs at Bawtry Road. Scarborough posted 178-8 and United were dismissed for 167, Piet Rinke taking 6-37 and Ashley Lyth 3-45. Despite the narrow margin at the end Scarborough scorer Tony Jack said: "It wasn't really a nail-biter, we were always in control." Harrogate's home game against Sheffield Collegiate was close too, as Gate needed 20 to win off the last two overs but lost the crucial wicket of Matt Ingham, who had scored 50 off 40 balls. Collegiate made 237, Simon Seager taking six wickets. Gate then ended on 218-9 to take two points for achieving 90 per cent of the total. "We should've won it really," said Harrogate skipper David Stiff. Harrogate stay bottom of the table, while Scarborough go above Sheffield in mid-table.
