Wolves put their First Division troubles behind them to send Newcastle crashing out of the FA Cup in a breathtaking third-round tie at Molineux.

Dave Jones' side, without a win in five league games, brilliantly despatched a side currently embroiled in a Champions League battle.

Wolves saw a 2-0 lead wiped out by two Newcastle goals just before half-time.

But George Ndah's bundled finish five minutes into the second half was enough to send Wolves through and provide the perfect response from Jones to chairman Sir Jack Hayward's recent criticism of his manager.

Wolves, who can currently do no right in Division One, could do nothing wrong in the opening stages of a pulsating FA Cup tie.

Jones' side started at pace and were in front within six minutes.

Mark Kennedy's cross from a quickly taken corner was headed back by Paul Butler for Paul Ince to crack home a crisp half volley from 12 yards.

As Newcastle pressed forward in search of an equaliser, Wolves broke swiftly on the counter attack, culminating in Colin Cameron's pull back for Kennedy to sweep home.

With Wolves so comfortably on top, the home side were reluctant to take their foot off the accelerator, but their enthusiasm backfired with half-time approaching.

Craig Bellamy's run down the right ended with a low cross for Alan Shearer and, although his effort was blocked by Butler, the ball sat up kindly for Jermaine Jenas to head home his first goal for Newcastle.

A lifeline five minutes before half-time was more than Newcastle deserved - but an equaliser was more than they could have dreamed of.

It was gifted to them on 43 minutes when Joleon Lescott ridiculously tugged at Bellamy after the ball had been cleared to concede a penalty.

Shearer gratefully slammed home his 16th goal of the season and the Magpies looked determined to complete their comeback as the second half also started in blistering fashion.

The former England captain's deflected free-kick from the edge of the penalty area was blocked on the line by Lescott, who then brilliantly adjusted his position to keep out Clarence Acuna's follow-up.

Within a minute, a game that had appeared to be slipping away from Wolves was back in their clutches.

Kennedy's influence continued as his deep cross was nodded across goal by Newton for Ndah to bundle home the winner from all of a yard.

Even then, the tension continued to flow by the barrel-load.

Wolves keeper Matt Murray bravely saved at the feet of the forward rushing Bellamy and Lee Naylor brilliantly cleared off the line to deny substitute Lamano LuaLua a goal with his first touch.

Kenny Miller also saw a late effort disallowed for Wolves and Salano scrambled off his own line to prevent an own goal by Laurent Robert, but the Magpies were unable to deny Jones the sweetest of cup successes.
