Southampton midfielder Chris Marsden aims to repay his debts to Dave Jones by knocking Wolves out of the FA Cup.

The sixth round draw gives Wolves boss Jones the chance for sweet revenge against the club he acrimoniously parted company with two years ago.

Jones got the Southampton job on the strength of his FA Cup exploits with a Stockport team which contained Marsden and goalkeeper Paul Jones.

One of Jones' first acts on landing the post at the Premiership outfit was to sign Marsden from Birmingham City, having moved on from Edgeley Park.

Marsden's career had been as a journeyman lower division midfielder at Sheffield United, Huddersfield, Coventry, Wolves and Notts County as well as Stockport and Birmingham.

But he admits he owes Jones a big debt for offering him the chance to establish himself as a top-flight midfielder.

Marsden told BBC Sport: "I think a lot of players at the club have a lot of time for Dave and a lot to thank him for.

"He put us on the way to where we are at the moment.

"I have known him for seven or eight years and myself and Paul Jones both signed for him at Stockport.

"We did well and he brought us both to Southampton .

"So people are spot-on when they say I have a lot to thank him for.

"It will be tremendous to see him again but it's the nature of football that I will be aiming to repay him by knocking his team out of the FA Cup."

The 34-year-old midfielder admitted after Southampton's 2-0 win over Norwich that time might be running out for him to appear in a Cup final.

Even with a fourth successive home draw and the two favourites again drawn against each other, Marsden is taking nothing for granted.

Marsden said: "All you can ask for at this stage of the competition is a home draw.

"We have avoided the so-called big clubs but I have never known anyone to concede a game before the start.

"The Cup still has a bit of magic and people raise their game, as Wolves found Rochdale did.

"We're under no illusions how tough it will be against Wolves, and Dave will have them fired up."
