| Tuesday, 27 August, 2002, 21:41 GMT 22:41 UK Bournemouth 1-1 Oxford Bournemouth are still looking for their first win of the season after Oxford held them to a draw. The Cherries were left to regret not making the most of numerous first-half chances. Wade Elliott forced a full-length save from Andy Woodman and Carl Fletcher shot across the face of the goal after getting around the Oxford defence. Bournemouth had only one goal to show for their supremacy and it came in the 42nd minute when Derek Holmes headed in a centre from Steve Purches. Oxford's David Savage hit the post in first-half injury time and two minutes after the break Steve Basham turned sharply on to a right-wing centre from Scott McNiven to equalise. United midfield player David Waterman was sent off in the last minute for a two-footed tackle on Bournemouth captain Fletcher. The former Portsmouth man was shown a straight red by the referee, who had booked seven others in a competitive game.
