Jennings was convicted of possession of class A and B drugs |
Guernsey's senior boxing coach Graham Guilbert says cruiserweight Matt Jennings should be given another chance following a drugs conviction. Jennings was fined £1,000 last week for the possession of class A and B drugs. An eight-member committee of the Amalgamated Boys Club will meet later this week to determine its sanctions. Guilbert said: "I know two of us support giving him another chance. If he'd been caught taking it or had it in him then he'd be out straight away." He added: "I know he doesn't take drugs. I know he doesn't smoke, anyway, so I don't know why he had them on him." One tablet of MDMA and 0.55 grams of cannabis resin were found on Jennings when he was searched by Guernsey Police in St Peter Port on 30 August. Guilbert said: "Everybody likes him, he's not aggressive out of the ring. A lot of people say he's a gentle giant, which he is." Jennings won the top-of-the-bill bout when Guernsey fought County Tyrone last month.
