Steve Dawes gained a comfortable win in the second race of the Guernsey Athletics Club's Winter Cross Country Series at L'Ancresse on Saturday.

The reigning champion's nearest rivals struggled on the 'Stonecrusher' course as Alan Rowe and Mark Mercier both pulled out of the race due to injury.

Dawes finished a minute ahead of second placed Lee Garland.

Fastest woman Louise Perrio, in eighth, was a minute-and-a-half ahead of Martine Scholes and Sarah Mercier.

Scholes and Mercier were separated by a mere two seconds.

Katie Rowe showed great potentially by beating boys and girls four years older than her to win the junior race.
