Loveridge is out of English Open

Guernsey's Alice Loveridge is out of the English Table Tennis Open in Sheffield after failing to progress from the qualifying stages.

The 15-year-old Olympic hopeful took on some of the world's finest players but lost both her group stage matches in the senior women's event.

Loveridge was beaten 4-1 by Dutch player Carla Nouwen.

She also lost 4-1 to former European junior champion Natalia Partyka, who is now ranked in the world's top 100.

In the under 21 category Loveridge beat England's Lucy Davidson 11-8, 11-8, 11-7 but lost her second match 3-0 to Germany's Sabine Winter.

Loveridge is currently 404th in the under-21 world rankings.
