Loveridge leaving island to train

Guernsey table tennis player Alice Loveridge has decided to train off the island to pursue her dreams of Olympic glory in 2012.

Loveridge, 15, has been selected for a programme alongside the top two English players and the number one players from Northern Ireland and Wales.

The sport's governing body is planning that the three British players for London 2012 will come from these five.

"I really want to get there, it has always been my dream," said Loveridge.

The teenager will spend three weeks out of every month at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

School is still on the priority list though with Loveridge taking her GCSEs later this year, during her one week a month back in Guernsey and with an academic schedule designed by the Guernsey Grammar School.
