Kuwait loss disappoints Simpson

Guernsey's Chris Simpson said he was bitterly disappointed at being knocked out in the first round of the World Squash Open in Kuwait.

Simpson, the current British Under-23 champion and ranked 46th in the world, lost 3-2 to Egypt's world number 26, Hisham Mohd Ashour.

Simpson won the first two games 11-6, 12-10 before Ashour fought back to take the next three games and the victory.

"He came out and played some very high risk squash that seemed to go very well for him," said Simpson.

"He was playing outrageous shots which aren't percentage shots, but they were going well and I had to put up with that.

"I think I became a bit predictable which allowed him to play those shots so I needed to mix it up more or play something to surprise him.

"I didn't really change my game plan enough and he started to get used to it."
