Jennings faced Conquest in Guernsey in February |
Guernsey boxers were all beaten in the 2009 Senior Amateur Boxing Association Championships at the weekend. Matt Jennings lost to Tony Conquest, who he fought in Guernsey in February, in the quarter-finals in Sheffield. Callum Pearson went out at the same stage to Obed Mbwakongo while Bradley Watson lost in the semi-finals to Adam Whitfield by a score of 24-3. Amalgamated Boys' Club coach Graham Guilbert said: "They showed quality in superb boxing all round." Conquest, who beat Jennings by split decision when they met in Guernsey, will be turning pro in May. Guilbert described the bout as "toe-to-toe all the way, a really good match". It was Pearson's first time on a big stage and Guilbert said despite the loss officials complimented the Sarnian. "The Guernsey boys lost but they all competed and they are actually in that class," he added.
