Beausire believes the competition will help the team improve

Guernsey's men's basketball team are to follow the women's team into national league competition.

The women played in the 2008/09 season of the South West & Midlands division, finishing fourth out of seven teams.

The men will play in the 2009/10 national league set-up and, in order to afford the travel costs, they decided not to enter this year's Island Games.

First-team player Peter Beausire said, "It's hopefully going to help us step up to the next level."
