Guernsey's team will not return to the Island Games this year |
Guernsey's men's basketball team will not compete at this summer's Island Games in as they want to concentrate on joining the national league. It would cost 1,000 per player to go to the games in Aland coach Jeff Stuart thinks it could be better spent. "There'd be 12 players that would benefit from us going to the Island games," Stuart told BBC Guernsey. "But we could potentially benefit not just the 20-man island squad but the junior players coming through as well." Guernsey's women's team already play in the English Basketball League and Stuart thinks the men's side following them would be great for the sport. "Hopefully it'll give us something more structured and high-level than just looking at the Island Games every two years and the inter-insular on an annual basis."
