Brooking said Calladine put the pressure on all the way through the bout |
Three Guernsey boxers have qualified for the regional finals of the Senior Novice Championship. Wayne Calladine and Shane Le Patourel both won tough bouts while Tom Duff got a bye after his opponent failed to show up for the fight. Les Brooking, Western Counties Regional coach, said: "We all know about Guernsey boys now, they're very, very strong and very well schooled." The next round is set to be held in Weymouth in two weeks time. | Certainly in the Western Counties team we're looking to get Guernsey boxers representing us |
Brooking added: "They [Guernsey] had three boys through to the national finals of the full ABA's last year so there's no surprise packages anymore. "Certainly, in the Western Counties team, we're looking to get Guernsey boxers representing us against teams like London and the North West." Of the individual fights, Brooking said Le Patourel had shown a lot of skill and did very well to finish the contest off in the third round. He added: "Wayne Calladine had a tough contest against Jake Whiteside from Bristol, who's know to be very tough and rugged. "Wayne did really well, giving him two counts in the first round, and put the pressure on all the way through."
