MAX RAYNE HAND IN HAND SCHOOL, JERUSALEM
David Lasserson reports from an extraordinary school in Jerusalem, the Max Rayne Hand in Hand School, where Jewish, Christian and Muslim pupils take lessons together and are taught in Hebrew and Arabic. The number of pupils applying to attend the school has continued to increase despite the daily problems between the city’s Jewish and Arab population. To emphasise the success of the school, an $11 million building has been built.
SEGREGATION IN SCHOOLS
Recent research shows that primary schools are becoming increasingly segregated because parents want their children to be educated within their own ethnic and social class groups.
Libby Purves talks to Dr Richard Harris, Senior Lecturer, School of Geographical Sciences, University of Bristol, about his research into schools in Birmingham and London; and to Patrick Diamond, Director of Policy and Strategy for the Commission for Equality and Human Rights.

How green are British universities? A new report, Greening Spires, from the vice-chancellors’ group, Universities UK, looks at how universities are taking action through research, the sustainability of UK campuses and changing curricula.
