ADULT LEARNING

PROFESSOR CHRIS BAILEY
Libby Purves is joined by Chris Bailey, Professor of Computational Mechanics and Reliability at The University of Greenwich. They have been working in an ongoing partnership with the Cutty Sark Trust to help conserve the ship. He explains how a team of researchers are making software predictions to ensure the Cutty Sark is dismantled and restored in the safest possible way.
CAREERS ADVICE
In a survey by the Association of Colleges, 66% respondents said they wished they’d had better careers advice at school. The Secretary of State has a statutory duty to provide careers advice in schools. Since 2001, this has come through Connexions partnerships. Schools have to provide careers education and have a careers library with information on what to do or learn after 16; and Connexions have to make sure it's impartial and up to date.
The Green Paper "Youth Matters" proposed the development of Quality Standards for Young People's Information, Advice & Guidance. They are currently being redrafted and should be published in the near future.

Susan Hodgson, a trained careers advisor and Editor of The Times A-Z of Careers & Jobs; and Nicki Moore – Careers Education and Guidance Manager for Connexions Derbyshire; she also chairs the Institute of Careers Guidance’s Education Committee.
