Education News round-up Libby talks to our education correspondent, Mike Baker , who looks ahead to what is coming up in the spring. School Admissions The government is proposing a new breed of trust schools in its white paper. They would have control over their budgets, staffing, buildings, land, and most importantly of all, their admissions. Melissa Benn, a parent with children in primary and secondary school and co-author of A Comprehensive Future - Quality and Equality for all our children and Margaret Wilson , head teacher of King John School in Essex debate whether the current proposals will make the admission policies more or less inclusive. Apprenticeships In the last series we looked at apprenticeships. We got a tremendous amount of feedback including an email from Phil Clements saying he was disappointed that no mention was made during the programme of the Young Apprenticeship Programme for 14-16 year olds. He joins Libby Purves on the line from Oxford Rap The Learning Curve featured Kenneth During's Euro Rap, in the last series, and he also talked about a Learning and Skills Development Agency competition to find young songwriters to write lyrics on issues that matter - or should matter - to teenagers. The competition was open to young people who are in the citizenship education programmes run by the LSDA for 16-19 year olds in schools, colleges, training companies and youth organisations. Kayde, a member of the winning group from Oldham, and Chris Claydon (project coordinator, Oldham youth inclusion project) talk to Libby.
