Fletch hasn’t always lived in Cardiff. His mother, Alice, is from Cardiff but she moved to London in her early twenties to escape her overly strict Catholic parents. Alice moved in with a friend and quickly found that her good looks got her a lot of attention. In particular, from her neighbour Patrick who would later turn out to be Fletch’s dad. What started out as friendly banter soon turned into a secret affair. Patrick, who was older than Alice was married at the time and when Alice got pregnant with Fletch he flipped. He told her that he couldn’t let his wife found out so he agreed to be there financially for Fletch but that was it.

Fletch never knew who his dad was. Alice told him that he was in a band and she accidentally got pregnant after a one-night fling when he was passing through London. She couldn’t bring herself to tell Fletch that his dad had rejected him. Patrick would write to her on occasion and send money but still Alice kept it hidden from Fletch.

Fletch was always popular growing up and that didn’t change as he hit his twenties. He had plenty of flings but never saw himself as the settling down type. That is until he met Caz on a night out. She was funny, beautiful and had a real lust for life which Fletch found infectious. It was not long until they fell in love and moved in together.

But soon after Alice was diagnosed with a serious illness. She decided to move back to Cardiff and Caz and Fletch went with her. That’s when Caz got her job at Coopers and soon after that, so did Fletch. Albeit because Caz pushed him into it. But that’s how it’s always been. Fletch is too laid-back and never really wanted to have a career or all the things that you’re supposed to want.

That’s why Caz takes the lead. She makes all the decisions. She even made the decision that they should get married which Fletch went along with. Fletch didn’t really see the point but he loved Caz and wanted to make her happy.

On the surface Fletch has it all. He knows he is under the thumb but that doesn’t really bother him. In fact, nothing really phases him. Except one thing… his dad abandoning him. It is the one wound that will not heal and when Caz stumbles across the truth about his father’s whereabouts their relationship will be tested in ways they never thought imaginable.
