Six perfect pop stars couples who couldn't make it last

It's our own fault. We get too invested. But every time one of our favourite pop couples split, we shed a (silent, invisible and not actual) tear for what we've lost.
So we're deeply saddened to hear that Jesy Nelson and Jake Roche are no more - we'll miss their little faces on each other's Instagram the most.
But this isn't the first time we've been hit hard like this. Here are the six pop star splits we've found it most difficult to come to terms with *sob*.
Jesy Nelson and Jake Roche
It probably wasn't the most shocking news of the week (after all, there was the US election and the death of Leonard Cohen to deal with) but Jesy from Little Mix breaking up with Jake Roche from Rixton has still hit us hard.
The pop couple were literally the cutest on Instagram, sharing photos hanging out, working in the studio, hitting the gym and eating pasties. Now, they don't even follow each other. Heart = broken.
Sources claim that pressures of the pop world made it difficult for the couple and we can only wish them the best and that Shout Out To My Ex doesn't now have a brand new meaning.
Drake and Rihanna
Drake and Rih made the perfect pair on record so we were shipping them as a real life couple too. But sadly, despite the matching tattoos (they both got sharks inked) and Drake's declaration at the 2016 MTV VMAs that he had been in love with Rihanna "since I was 22 years old," it didn't work out.
Reports from the US suggested the pair separated in early November due to their exceptionally busy schedules. If Drake and Rihanna can't make it, who can? Consider our faith in relationships officially rocked.

They first met in 2005 when Rihanna was shooting the video for her debut single, Pon De Replay and the pair are believed to have first dated in 2009. A year later, sparks flew in their What's My Name video and again in their Take Care clip.
There were further rumours that the pair were dating in 2014 but nothing was ever confirmed and these rumours continued as they continued to work and spend time together, right until as recently as this summer.

Is this the end of Drake and Rihanna?
If Drake and Rihanna were ever an official couple, of course...
Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez
Justin and Selena seemed too good to be true and, as the history books will remember, sadly, they were.
The US stars dated between 2011 and 2014 but during this time they were dogged with ongoing break-up rumours - in between public appearances together to confirm their relationship was still alive, kicking and seriously cute. Both Justin and Selena fuelled gossip with cryptic messages on Twitter and Instagram during their relationship, alluding to being single and celebrating 'new beginnings', along with photos of a seemingly very happy couple.

This continued until late 2014 when Selena dropped her single, 'The Heart Wants What It Wants', which seems to confirm the end their relationship.
Everything was civil between the pair until August 2016 when they rowed on Instagram, where cheating accusations were thrown around - with Justin even suggesting Selena had a brief fling with Zayn during their relationship.
Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards
Zayn and Perrie were the UK's answer to Justin and Selena and one of the best things to come from The X Factor, ever. They competed in different years, but soon hooked up on the celeb circuit in early 2012.
They were so serious, Zayn even got a tattoo of Perrie on his arm in 2013 and the pair got engaged. Everything ran smoothly until rumours emerged in March 2015 that Zayn had cheated on Perrie after being spotted with another girl. He quit One Direction the same month and the couple spent time together trying to patch up their relationship.
Could Little Mix's new single be about Zayn?

Rumours continued to surround the pair until August 2015, when they called off their engagement, leading to Perrie crying on stage during a performance with Little Mix.
Zayn is now dating model Gigi Hadid while Perrie involved with actor Luke Pasqualino.
Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris
Taylor and Calvin started dating on 6 March 2015, despite not being spotted together as an official couple later that month. They quickly became one of the most powerful pairs in pop music, beating Jay Z and Beyonce to be named the highest earning celebrity couple in 2015.
During their time together, Taylor and Calvin were seen wearing matching outfits, posted photos of each other on Instagram and gave the world countless PDAs at award shows and public appearances.
Taylor helped Calvin write this huge hit
They sadly split in June 2016, with Calvin saying that there remained "a huge amount of love and respect" between the former lovers, but things took a turn for the worse when Taylor quickly started dating Tom Hiddleston the same month.
Calvin then deleted all photos of Taylor from his social media and when a row broke out about Taylor Swift helping write his hit, This Is What You Came For, said she was trying to 'bury' him like she did Katy Perry. His current hit, My Way, is believed to be about Taylor - and it's not exactly positive.
Katy Perry and John Mayer
Despite playing it coy in the early days, Katy Perry first hooked up with US rocker John Mayer in late summer 2012. They spent Christmas together the same year and even sparked engagement rumours when Katy was seen wearing a ring the following Valentine's Day.
The couple split in March 2013 but rekindled the romance in June, going on to record a duet, Who You Love, in August that year and gushing about each other's amazingness at regular occasions.
