Zara Larsson: I wish I could wake up and be Beyoncé

Zara Larsson plays How Beyoncé Are You?

Zara Larsson joins Grimmy in the studio to find out just how Beyoncé she really is.

Zara Larsson, like so many of us, wishes she could swap places with Beyoncé.

Zara says the first thing she'd do if she woke up and was Beyoncé would be to look in the mirror and say: "Hey, I’m Beyoncé!" Which seems like a logical thing to do.

Zara supported Bey on her 2016 Formation tour, but she first met the star when she was just 15 years old - after pleading with her record label to introduce them.

"I met her backstage after her concert in Stockholm in 2013, it was her Mrs Carter World Tour," she told Nick Grimshaw when she dropped into the Radio 1 Breakfast Show this week.

I was telling myself 'do not faint, do not faint' because that's how I felt

"I basically just emailed everyone at Sony - because she's signed to Sony and so am I - for about six months saying 'Hey guys, I really want to meet Beyoncé'.

"They were really sweet and made that happen. I was right at the front. I had queued for tickets but they gave me special Beehive tickets.

"After that someone took me backstage and I was just waiting for her in a backstage room and I was just trying to get myself together. I was telling myself 'do not faint, do not faint' because that's how I felt."

Zara managed to stay conscious, but she didn't manage to keep her emotions together (which is TOTALLY understandable).

I was just crying the whole time

"She came in and I just bawled my eyes out," says Zara.

"She was like 'Oh my gosh, you were the girl in the front crying' and I was like 'Yes, that's me!'.

"I was just crying the whole time; she was really humble and sweet.

"They say that you shouldn't meet your idols because they won't live up to your expectations, but she really did."

2016 has been a huge year for Zara, having scored enormous hit singles with Lush Life, Ain't My Fault and David Guetta collaboration, This One's For You.

She admits, however, that the year has been a bit of blur and she struggles to remember everything she's achieved.

"Somebody outside gave me a travelling notebook, which was really sweet and I should use it," she says.

"Sometimes I go home and my family asks me what I’ve been doing and I’m just like 'I don't know'.

"Everything just melts into one thing, but I get to experience a lot of things. I'm excited for 2017 but also for the Christmas holiday."

Zara hasn't had much time off this year, but when she does take a break at the end of the year she knows exactly what she wants to do - sleep.

"I'm kind of extreme. When I’m working, I’m really working and when I’m off I am really off," she says.

"Usually I don't move out of bed at all, I would absolutely take sleep over food.

"I wouldn't even get up to eat. I am done; I am lying in my bed watching TV."

Ditto that.

Zara Larsson will perform at the 2016 BBC Music Awards on 12 December, alongside Emeli Sande, The 1975, Craig David, Lukas Graham, Robbie Williams and The Kaiser Chiefs
