आजचा विषय आहे , how to agree, म्हणजे आपली सहमती दाखवण्यासाठी कुठले इंग्रजी शब्द वापरायचे? चला ऐकू.

A: I love pizza!
B: Me too!

A: I don’t like pizza.
B: Me neither!

A: Pizza is the best food in the world!
B: I couldn’t agree more!

A: Pizza is the best food in the world!
B: Absolutely!

A: Pizza is much nicer than burgers!
B:That’s a good point.

दोघांनाही पिझ्झा आवडत नाही, they don’t like pizza. म्हणजे दोघांचंही उत्तर नकारार्थी आहे, negative आहे. अशा वेळी कुठला शब्द वापरायचा?

When someone says something negative that you agree with, you can say ‘me neither’ or ‘me neither’. Let’s continue – I don’t want to keep the listeners waiting!

Me neither. लक्षात आलं?  आता पुढचं ऐकू. तुमचं मत काय आहे, तुम्ही सहमत आहात का त्याच्याशी?

A: Pizza is the best food in the world!
B: I couldn’t agree more!

They said ‘I couldn’t agree more’ – this has the same meaning as ‘I totally agree’.

‘I couldn’t agree more’ म्हणजेच ‘I totally agree’  म्हणजे मला पटलंय पूर्णपणे, मी सहमत आहे. जेव्हा तुम्हाला अगदी पूर्णपणे पटलेलं असतं तेव्हा आपण वापरतो ‘I totally agree’. पण आता परत ऐकू. ‘couldn’t’ and ‘agree’ कसं वापरलंय? ऐका.

A: Pizza is the best food in the world!
B: I couldn’t agree more!

They said ‘couldn’t agree’. The /t/ sound in ‘couldn’t’ moves to the beginning of the word ‘agree’. Listen and repeat after me.

अजून एक प्रकारे तुम्ही सहमती दाखवू शकता, ‘that’s a good point’ म्हणजे तुमचं म्हणणं बरोबर आहे. पण ‘absolutely’ किंवा ‘I couldn’t agree more’ हे अगदी ठामपणे बोलण्यासाठी वापरतात. आता सराव करू ... मी काय म्हणतीये ते ऐका. त्यानंतर तुम्ही ‘Me too’ or ‘Me neither’ ठरवा.

Expressions to Agree with someone

1) Me too! / Me neither!
When saying you have the same opinion about a positive statement, you can say ‘Me too!’

  • I love playing football at the weekend! Me too!

When saying that you have the same opinion about a negative statement, you can say ‘Me neither!’

  • I can’t stand playing football! Me neither!

2) I couldn’t agree more! / Absolutely! / Exactly!
When you want to strongly agree with someone’s opinion, you can use any of these phrases.

àSpain is the best place to go on holiday!

  • I couldn’t agree more!
  • Absolutely!
  • Exactly!

3) That’s a good point!
You can also use this phrase to agree with someone, but it is not as strong as the expressions in section 2.

àShall we go by bus? It will be cheaper than the train.

  • That’s a good point.
